hi
You should really do another review on this game. There is so much that has changed. New wardrobe system, new currency system, new guild system, guild missions, guild halls, new skill system (you can jump of a cliff and glide now), new dungeons that scale in difficulty, 10man raids, new maps, a new story and a lot more
Do you still have an active angry army guild?
I have noticed you don’t monetize your blog, don’t waste your traffic,

This review convinced me to try out Guild Wars 2 now im nearly 4 years in to the game have both expansions and the living world seasons, and i have to say its constantly improving. I think you really need to come back to this game and do an updated review. I dont think it will change the over all verdict but it might show off how they have fixed some of these negatives and improved other things like the addition of mounts and gliders, new maps, new ways to explore like with the jumping puzzles and mastery system. While the f2p is literally more like a trial thanks to the limitations but playing the full base game for free with the achievements still available to you isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And with the path of fire expansion release it links back to the previous game Guild Wars back when human was the only race and you was facing charrs by allowing you to go back and explore the crystal desert 250 years after the events of the first game. Personally while I can go on and on, still think you should defiantly take a look at the new content and update your review for those who watch and follow you and wish to try this game out for the first time!

Bought it after watching your video. I love this game. GW2 is my favorite MMO (I played a LOT of mmos). I’m playing it for more than 3 years. Thanks Joe for your rewiew.
robo
hey joe what do you think of guild wars 2 heart of thorns
so I had the games since 2013 but i stopped playing early 2015 because my computer broke. now that my computer is fixed, and i just found out that guild wars 2 is now free. i was wondering if i should pay the new edition or play the free version
The free one
as he bought the original one before he can stick with it as the free model for the core game is limited in functionality to fight goldsellerbuiseness and spam. If he think he wants more he can get Heart of Thorns for less money when there is another sale or he waits for a new addon which is said to include Heart of Thorns as well.
(And yeah I knew this post is old just to help out others who want an answer ;))
I’ve been playing GW2 for 3 years and I always find more and new things to do. Wouldn’t trade the money I spent on it for anything. <3
THANK YOU for the awesome review of the game!!!
Alright, I’ve played the game for a week now and I can say with confidence that this beats the shit out of every single MMO in existence. I’ve played World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Aion, Tera Rising, and a dozen other MMOs that i probably can’t remember. None of these come close to how good GW2 is. The gameplay is multitudes better than Tera Rising which was famous JUST for it’s gameplay. Everything Angry Joe said in his review is 100% true. It’s so exciting when you discover something new, or find a jumping puzzle, or even see a world boss. I find myself loving the game even more every time I discover something new. I could go on for about 3-6 more paragraphs about amazing things that are in this game that joe didn’t mention, but ill let u guys figure it out if u decide to buy the game. and if you don’t buy the game, angry squirrels will break into ur room at night and hack at you with axes.
There were only 3 things that annoyed me in the game that joe didn’t mention in his review.
1. You can’t inspect other players gear
2. It’s hard to see what spells or abilties are which because of the portrait art, making them more difficult to use and harder to find your fighting style. Then again, it could just be me.
3. If you have all your 5 main ability/spell slots unlocked and there are types of weapons u can use, but haven’t used yet, you’re going to be given several spells/abilities at a time that you’re not familiar with when you start using a new type of weapon. My point is, you’re given new abilities too quickly and it’s hard to get used to using all of your abilities in a short amount of time. Plus you’re also swapping weapon sets often, which makes it even harder. Sorry if I didn’t explain that well… >. >
pretty nice 🙂 my own opition:
1. You can’t inspect other players gear
yes , you cant inspect em but they can show you em. like holdin ctrl down and clickin the items, you can see the item just by having mouse on the text, and find the warp point on map by clickin on the text.
2. It’s hard to see what spells or abilties are which because of the portrait art, making them more difficult to use and harder to find your fighting style. Then again, it could just be me.

In these days you’re able to check both weapon and character skills by “build”, you can check every skills there (example what kind of skills is on the weapon you want to know). And ofc, by using those skills, you’ll see the last details yourself. You learn playin the character and usin the skills by right time, using the right tactics, moving and dodgin, all that while makin quests and all kind of things. Example Jumping puzzles are epic way for getting used to playin those characters. After a few Vista’s and Jumpin puzzles you’ll make them alot quicker and smoothier
I just bought the game recently and am really looking forward to playing it.
I’ll try to remember to share my thoughts once i’ve played enough.
I started playing a year ago and even within that year there is SO much that has changed. This game is constantly evolving, new balance patches and the living world system make it constantly refreshing. This is undoubtedly the best MMO I have ever played and it is absolutely worth every cent. There are so many things between this review and now that have changed that it’s practically a whole new game, and it’s my hope that Joe does a review for the Xpack coming out Soonâ„¢
One of the entertaining tidbits for me is seeing the WvW map. Jade Quarry Blackgate and Tarnished Coast are the dominating WvW servers these days so it was really funny to me to see that they were being so thoroughly spanked back in the day.
10/10 Legendary review, Joe. If it’s nearly as good as you say, then I want it.
I’ve had a lot of friends trying to drag me away from the Korean based MMO Tera to this, and after experiencing the combat system, I just can’t do it. I’d just like to know if you have tried Tera and if so, what you think. It also may well be that you don’t like anime style games, in which case that’s cool too. Like the reviews though. Well thought out most of the time and very entertaining.
Tera is absolutely retarded. There is no such thing as challenging gameplay, no such thing as balanced pvp.
…and the amount of $ and grind you have to throw in to the game is ridiculous… it’s sole purpose is for the korean market which spends $ / hour for IC.
As someone who can’t leave the house for medical reasons and is suffering from Depression and such. This game makes everything bearable. I bought Gw2 on release, I never really did anything on it at that time. I couldn’t get into the game, so several weeks ago I download it again. Launch the game and was instantly hooked. I have never had so much fun leveling in an MMORPG. I hear that the hearts are repetitive compared to other MMORPGs however I don’t think so, and if anything. All quests are repetitive in any MMORPG. I really enjoy it. To the point where I got a thief to level 80 in about 40-50 hours. Without rushing, The WvW is so much different from most PvP in other MMORPGs, I honestly have never seen people work together so well, the community is so kind because the game promotes working together, when I was level 40-50 I did AC and CM on my thief (Story of course) and all I heard was praise, I went down several times but the whole time I was doing damage and combining black powder and heartseeker for stealth. I was also dropping shadow refuge on downed team mates. They all went down and I managed to finish of the last three enemies by kiting with SB and using clusterbomb. I know you might not think much of this but a thief will die in two hits. In WvW I’m always roaming, using S/P to cap camps by myself, switching to D/D so I can defeat the enemy player, to the point where I managed to take on three enemies at once and win! I never thought I’d see the day where PvP took skill and not proper rotation. I managed to take out a Guardian, Mesmer and Necromancer. I was on my thief trying to get one of the three groups on our side in WvW, while I was doing this I saw their points go up for the team so I say in the main chat, 2-3 enemies at Dredge camp, 10-20 seconds later a zerg and commander from my team run through the cave destroying all of them. I love this game, so much! Never before has an MMORPG made me feel like an actual hero and oh my god that ending song! Never have I wanted to sit through all of the credits! I don’t know if I can post links here so just type in on youtube “Fear not this night” It’s amazing and so beautiful! <3
You’ve sold me. Games are escapism and should be enjoyable. This looks the biz and I can’t wait to get a PC and this game. As we all know, there’s a lot of crap games out there with great graphics and bad gameplay.
iv come back to the game 2 months ago andi gota say it got me addictedi couldent stop playing it has been improved soo much the amont of stuff to get like the ascendened back items are realy cool and not just grind soo i say defenetly buy the game its alot better then tera and wow
I think it should be noted that this review is extremely out of date, and many of the points don’t even apply anymore. For example, many events don’t scale up based on the number of participants, so you do get spawn camping in order to even get credit for an event. World bosses now spawn on a timer, so you have enormous groups running to each boss as they spawn. You no longer have weapon swap at level 7- It’s been pushed back to level 15. The underwater combat system has been largely abandoned. There are branching decisions in the personal story, but they do all lead to one end result, and the personal story has been hacked and put back together out of order since September 9, 2014. PvP gear hasn’t existed in a year, and the entire pvp system has changed dramatically. You can join the queue for PvP in a party now. WvW queues are more reasonable. But the trait system has taken a huge hit, and is now a massive chore. Things that were said to be coming to the base game as far back as 2013 are now being bundled in the recently announced expansion. (Notably, the ability to craft a specific, powerful weapon-type). This is not the same game that was reviewed above.
Thank you for the update!
I got my whole guild to buy this game after making them watch this video thanks it’s been a great game so far best out of the last ten years anyways
