can i pledge now and still receive the title and add ons?
Since you’re pretty excited about Star Citizen, what do you think about Elite: Dangerous, another game on Kickstarter but by David Braben, the grandfather of space combat games, creator of Elite from 1984?
Cannot wait for this game, will probably become my favorite game of all time
will my computer be able to handle it if so I will never play another game again I have an accer aspire with a radeon HD 4250 graphics card and 1405 hypermemory?
Dude, you should really look into Space Suit Zero.
It finished kickstarting this past week, but the kicker here is that the funding was to FINISH the game, not START it. The game is set to release 23rd of January 2013.
Look into it – seems really cool
Best $250 I have ever spent. I can’t wait for this game to come out!
-It’s known, that the team is constantly modifying CryEngine 3 to suit your needs. What was the biggest issue or limitation related to CE3, that your team encountered?
- Will the RADAR,LIDAR, other sensor systems simulated in real-time like the physics, giving us pretty good real-life experience with jamming, hiding (turn off sytems, hide behind objects like asteroids, other ships, blind spots)?
Two things.
1. Will there be A.I. crew manning positions aboard the ship, until a player were to join and take that position and replace the A.I. crew mate.
2. Will we be able to board other ships and attack their crew directly?
I don’t want to necessarily steal their ship, but since it’s supposedly instanced, you would simply lose, and the systems would be damaged, and injured crew.
1. hasn’t confirmed yet whether it NPC characters manning the stations (for friend drop-in mechanic) or if it’s going to be automated systems.
2. yes there will be boarding, and yes, you can keep the ship. But will be hard, expensive and require friends.
Ask him if there will be a Universe as big as Freelancer with multiplayer so that you can put out your own server and mod it to your preference so that you can team up with your friends and find other players to blast from space on the online servers.
The answer to your questions is “BIGGER” and “YES”.
There was 53 total systems in Freelancer. There was 70 total systems in WC Privateer. In Star Citizen, there will be 100 systems. So it will be almost double the size of Freelancer.
As for making your own dedicated server like you could in Freelancer. That is an absolute yes. That was part of the plan from the very beginning. You can either play single player, multiplayer via your own customizable server, or via the RSI persistent online server.
Better still, using the mod tools included you can make your own ships and the like to submit to the bosses, if they OK them then they will put them up in the stores for make/sell. but better yet, even if they don’t like them they said there’s nothing stopping you from putting them on your own server to use with your friends.
I can see myself flying the effin’ ship using joystick, trackball and pedals.
Joe, you know all you need to do is ask and the Angry Army will join to make a frigging flying county like the quarians.
halo should have looked like that.
-How the “player driven” world will be player driven?
I imagined you lunch and maintain military operations even campaigns played out by the AI in real-time. You set the starting conditions like ship types/numbers/condition, pilots’ skills, locations, intel and orders (move there, than there, capture this and kill everybody you encounter on the road from this faction with threat lvl higher than 3 etc.); and the AI does the job.
Players could be informed through different channels (at least in game UEE network) and help through joining the UEE as pilots (replacing the AIs) or as mercenaries in limited numbers (limited ships, and UEE money).
A mercenary could get more money and loot option, maybe different missions too, but risking the ship, can’t get reinforcement and when blows up no rescue. As enlisted pilot you have to park your ship (if you have any) at UEE station/planet, than will be shipped to a carrier.
-With CE3 you have the opportunity to make a full scale universe like EVE’s Dust 514 project. Have you thought about it?
It’s nothing like grinding, to kill 500 spawned vanduul fighter in this sector or stg. This battles, operations will be played out in real-time one way or another by the AI with or without the help of the players. Even a player could fail in a mission instead of a badass UEE AI pilot, so this gives responsibility. The community can stay out of it, or even help the vanduul if they hate the UEE, but no citizens could join the vanduul.
There’s a question of how the death of your avatar will be handled..
Just like when u are alone in deep space etc. So it’s not related to this one.
AI (UEE, Vanduul) can pick u up randomly (arriving time), or a player (friend or foe).
A mercenary will get money and loot. A pilot will be part of a badass military operation in a military ship, get reputation, rank, higher chance to be enlisted next time, and above a rank/rep. extra, secret missions, maybe a military fighter.
Maybe you have heard of Unforgotten Realms.
It’s a flash series about 2 guys playing a d&d kinda game.
Well this guy is now planning on making a game of his series so he has started a kickstarter.

It looks really interesting and maybe you could check it out.
Questions for Chris:
How will the game be distributed overseas.
I was just about to reserve a copy of this and it asked for a name of the person who recommended it to me. What do I fill out to make sure you get your dues?
+++++++++++QUESTIONS:++++++++++++++++
1. will the AI law enforcement and UEE military be beatable? Such as groups of players hitting a military ship yard to hurt anti-piracy in that system.
2. how will large ships work? will you be able to walk around in them?
3. will the military react if for example a player made rebel group gains alot of power?
They’ve said they want to support organized players being able to take over a star system if they somehow get a force powerful enough. They don’t know how they’re going to do that yet. They want the players to be able to shape the universe.
And yes, you can walk around ship interiors if their big enough. To paraphrase, we want you all to be able to walk through your friend’s ships, jump on a turret if their attacked, or even repel borders!
“They’ve said they want to support organized players being able to take over a star system if they somehow get a force powerful enough. They don’t know how they’re going to do that yet. They want the players to be able to shape the universe.”
I sense an Angry Army takeover when the game comes out in 2014
This game, it’s ambition, it’s lead designer etc all feels me with giddy anticipation!
I am curious Joe, did you up your pledge to get a shirt or any of the other items?
Oh, and it said in the vid that you would be interviewing the big man here soon and you were taking questions. Could you ask him how death was going to be handled, not the ship destruction, but your character itself, like if you bite it in a boarding action or just get shot down. Are they going the cloning rout like in Eve, or is it just a game over?
Second question, will there be any RPG elements to this, like ‘skill ups’ or the like maybe like skyrim where if you shoot a lot then that starts getting better, or if you trade a lot you start to get discounts. I’m fine with it either way (hell, they got a hundred and fifty out of me for it) but I was just curious.
I thought of another question, sorry.
In this game their are quite proud of the physics, I know I was impressed, but I’m curious, will there be options for some of the high end maneuvers that inherently can only be done in space. For example, killing forward thrust and doing a flat spin to shoot the guy chasing you in the face before flipping back and gunning the engines, things like that. To date I’ve only played one game that allowed for that type of freedom (Had to actually break out the manual to find the ‘engine cut off’ command to do it, but the look on my friend’s face after a deathmatch, priceless!)
See you in the alpha AJ
)
It reminds me of wing commder. It was my first space simulator that I ever played. Good to to see space simulators are not dead.
There’s a reason, Cal made Wing Commander (Well, lead designer) as well as Freelancer
Bounty Hunter here. I promise I wont hunt you down Joe, Mwahaha!
Thanks for the heads up about the game! Made my pledge. Crazy they received over 6 million in pledges. I now look foward to the final product in 2014. I’ll see you and everyone else flying in the universe.
6.222 mill, final count. they win
Finished at 6.22 mil. However this will go up as people can still pre buy and pledges can be upgraded to better tiers or other ships purchased for one year. We gonna get the space sim we always wanted, can’t feeaking wait.
Aye, I know, but that all was generated in just the kickstarter period, Averaging it out it was about seventy dollars per pledger in thirty-seven says I think they said. Not bad for a game that they weren’t sure was even going to be made
Heh, already have it backed for $30 as a digital scout.
And joe, you forgot all the crazier parts! There’s ship boardings, fights within the ships (including melee weapons now!) and even fighting outside of the ship in Zero G!
Its practically the definition of “Ambitious”, and with over 6.1 mill, just daaaaaaang… really hoping this all comes through and we get a most excellent game. I have no prior experience with Wing Commander, but they definitely convinced me to want to give this game a go.
6M mark hit! AWESOME!
We dinged 6 mill on the site!
I am a Freelancer, if you need my guns, you have but to ask Joe!
too bad the world is ending in a month
They are postponing it to play this game!
Ask Chris: Will there be any ships, at launch or later on, that will be essentially remakes of older ships in the WC/Freelancer universe? Even if they aren’t in there that can be played, maybe some Easter eggs then?
I would love to see a remake of the Excalibur or Dralthi.
their planning on releasing the mod tools (Stretch goal) to the community, they can design and submit ships to the team and if they approve it will be in the official game, if they dont though you can still use it on your private multiplayer
It’s going to be awesome!
Rear-Admiral here too Joe! Also the Captured Vanduul Fighter! See you around the universe!
Planet landing. Will it be cinematic, animation or “minigame”?
“minigame”: approach the planet in a given vector, fly through a virtual tunnel – with safety zone – during the whole entry. When you reach the upper atmo the entry effects will kick in, hide everything so the planet surface can be loaded. You could end up in the clouds, and fly down to the surface. The 3×3 km area surrounding the base could be made by hand, for all other stuff go with the repeated, procedural wasteland.
What’s the scaling of the objects (ships compared to planets etc.) the team is aiming for, or what’s possible? Will planets be systems inside a system to give us more room and detail? – Jump in to a star system, than ~FTL to a planet, than approach to orbit. -
There won’t be seamless planet landing, but you can trick with the size and FOV to get really good immersion and detail, if a minimum distance (orbit) is set -you could land the planet from orbit with the foretold minigame, without getting closer to the planet and loose immersion-.
I would really like to see stg. like the ISS space station can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7UfMq-b0Uo
In 2013 AMD’s Kaveri APU will have fully shared memory with a single unified address space between CPU and GPU. From that time, you can freely use ~1Tflop performance without traveling around the world with time-intensive data copy from CPU memory to GPU memory, no PCI-E latency at all.
This jump on computing power side is similar to what consoles can give with low level acces on grapics side.
Intel will have this level of integration just with worse GPU performance.
Many sophisticated AIs, better physics without restrictions (asteroid fields, particle effects, ship parts), even procedural content generating, and much more real time features. Parallel computing is the key, not single-thread performance. Get the OpenCL driver from Intel/AMD, and the code in OpenCL or C++AMP, which will run on the CPU if u haven’t got an APU, but in 2014 APUs will be everywhere. It would be a shame not to experiment with this power.
What’s your opinion on all of this?
Did you sign stg with Nvidia, because you promote it everywhere, pledgers can win Nvidia cards etc., nothing about AMD at all.
***QUESTION FOR CHRIS*** Other than just 2 capturable carriers and a couple derelict/Pirate bases dotted around, what options (NON-FINITE OPTIONS) will Squadrons have available for setting up bases of operations for their squadrons?
Such as building our own bases or purchasing accomodations (ie clubs or space)on planets
Hey Joe
Saw you in the chat and guided me here.
Ask Chris: How much he himself is going to plan on playing the game and granting him some of his childhood-wishes of piloting a ship?
I have a pretty minor question (relatively speaking), but can he elaborate on
“Celebrity voice-acting for Squadron 42; we will bring back at least one favorite from Wing Commander!”
-On who the favorite from Wing Commander is?
Also will players be able to explore the interiors of some of the larger ships?
“Also will players be able to explore the interiors of some of the larger ships?”
Yes they will. I’m not CR, but even the Constellation Joe pledged has interior to walk on.
Thanks for answering my question @SendoTarget
