Why a 9/10 joe? how come you didn’t give it a 10/10? I do like this game though… good review joe
Pls Joe oh PLEASE… NO MORE PUPPET SHOWS!! XD
01:45 Skrillex?
I refuse to get to the end of Vaas’ role. Love Michael Mando, he’s the best & only reason I even looked into this.
Fun as it is to run around the jungle and go hang-gliding…
This will sound insane. But if anyone got this on demand on Xbox please hit me up on LIVE as SRx Irish. I’m dying to play this… “Get a job and buy it yourself!” They say. I’m 15 I can’t get a job so if anyone is fucking epic and has a big enough dick to let me get it off them. I’ll let you get on my account and download anything I have that you want.
Trying so hard to rent this game out each weekend. But guest what?IT’S OUT ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!!!
i love farcry 3 so much of all the games i have played farcry 3 beats them all by a landslide.
olxwdxmrhmcw
Vaas was the motivation for me to keep going. When he died, I kinda lost interest. Good game, but not enough to keep me interested in the long run.
THE FUCK Who would say no on this game
THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! LOVED THE CAMPAIN
why whould you wast your amo? on the zip line? plus it looks awesome but it needs a menu right?
Awesome game. Played it on the Xbox of my sister. Might get it myself so we could play together more often
poor game almost no vaas and it had fuck all to do
Loved it. Its a 10/10 for me.
Really surprised why no one fucking saw the repetitive co-op as a minus!
I mean, if there’s not a minimum of 3 players then killing the whole frigging horde of pirates…. So punishing and boring as hell!!
And there’s no ammo pickups in the maps!
“Running out of ammo? No fucking problem! Throw your gun and Pick a dead bitch’s weapon!”
At first I agreed with you that it’s a bit repetitive, but you have a little problem. There ARE AMMO PICKUPS IN EVERY LEVEL. Its in ammo boxes, and there’s at least one in every part of the stage, so it seems you really haven’t played much if at all before writing this comment.
Haha yeahhh, I’ve barely gotten up to 30% and I’ve seen plenty of ammo pickups. Pretty sure I’ve gotten ammo just by passing over the guns the pirates drop.
Played it, loved it. Played it all the way through and then had no interest in playing again. I have a rant on why it’s not Skyrim with guns though, so obviously I don’t agree with that. And one of my reasons listed in that rant is one that goes more on the personal level and that is that I played FC3 once and had no interest in picking it up since, and I have had Skyrim since it came out and still play it. though like I said, I liked FC3, just up until I finished it.
Joe looks even creepier in the beginning than Vaas.
For those who think that that flare gun is Far Cry’s invention, you are wrong. The weapon itself featured in the 1997 DOS game BLOOD with the same lethal effects. And the reeker bow with the explosive arrow tips, was the weapon of choice of the 1996 Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Nevertheless, amazing game!
Am i the only one that doesn’t mind quick time events? in my opinion i think there awesome…
i also very much loved the quick time events i felt they did them very well and they were not length of time were it took me out of the game
Idk, the whole thing with (***SPOILER, lol***) Buck took like five seconds and it was just like, grapple with knife a little, bam dead, ok mission over. Kind of anticlimactic.
Maybe I’m a sick f*** but I kind of liked Buck…
Hi
Just completed this game is deffo on of my favorite games of 2012 the ending is amazing, but if you really wont to be a perfectionist like, i like to do it feels like a chore collecting all the chests and stuff. The map is massive and amazing really good campaign
I think Far Cry 3 deserves some distinction, because the first part of the game (I mean, fight Vaas) is very addictive, and the moments with Vaas are very tense.
I think its a original game, all the Hunting, gathering herbs and using them for our benefit, but… yeah, it doens’t deserve the 10.
The second island gets really boring, to the point the average player forgets the outposts and only cares about the story and killing Hoyt. Killing Vaas nearly kills the adrenaline in the game.
I’d rate this game a 8 or 9 because of this problem, but no doubt it is one of the best games of 2012.
I LOVED Farcry2,
Farcry… meh
Farcry 3… great for the first island. Having a strategy to take down an enemy camp was awesome. But once your out of enemy camps… your back to the story, and unlike FC2, I gets old fast… real fast. EG. Marijuana plantation. I did it before the mission, then they’re back. Fully healed and budding 4 foot plants which I had just wasted with an ARMY. I was like ‘whatcha talking bout willace?
But, you can play this guns blazing, stealthy in a few different ways or try to get all the special kills from your upgraded tats… achievements, sometimes cool… except the zip line achievement, what’cha want me to do willace?
Other than that… this had soooo much more potential, the medicine in the start gave us the trippiest entry to a first person plat former ever… and then we somehow started an NA meeting during a load screen and have been practising abstinence ever since so as not to relapse with our friend the doctor… which we notice with 12 steps we go under the docs house to get to a ship… and err… nah, no spoilers.
anyway, FC2 did things much better… if these compounds could be ported to FC2 road blocks… fcuk me, we would have a 10/10.
But, it is still a damn fine game, polished like the doc’s silver spoon… but let’s say farcry3 to farcy2 is not Batman:AC to Batman:AA… actually, hold that… these two games suffer from the same venereal disease. Great fun, but leaves you remembering the good fun you had before you started pissing fire and razor blades. You know what I mean, when your in a male toilet you are all together and everyone is happily pissing away… never looking down at another mans fallopian fiddler until he says ‘hmmm, that’s not right?!?’ and you look down at his third arm of justice and realise he’s pissing blackish purple urine. You agree, that’s not right.
I thought this game was incredible. I agree that the boss fights were lame though…especially the Vass one.
The only other gripe I have with the game is that in my opinion the main character’s voice makes him seem like…well, a pansy. Even after he gets done murdering countless armed pirates, he’ll say something and kill the whole mood.
This game barely deserves a rental.
FORK TO JUUUU MY FREHNNND
A must buy for me.
Farcry 3 was really fun to start, but after awhile, it started to get a little bleh.
In all, I found the game to be incredibly underwhelming. It had great promise, but failed to actualize it. And when the initial thrill of the game wears off, it becomes very shallow and repetitive, and the story feels unsatisfactory.
/flameshield
So, is it like Skyrim meets Assassins Creed meets Crysis?
Looks cool
Nope it’s just Far Cry 3 nothing else =)
i played far cry 2 when it came out i thought it was a good but far cry 3 is great game.
Have to admit that this review has gotten me intrigued in the franchse! I wasn’t too interest in Far Cry until this one came out and everyone’s been saying its a great game and your review cemented it for me!
I’m a poor student who currently doesn’t even have a part time job. But I’m still gonna buy this game now
Looks so damn awesome.

I freaking love this game, but I miss the hardcore feeling from FC2… the no-seeing-your-enemies-thru-stuff, map & gps being part of the game, weapons degrading and occasionally getting stuck and all those things made me feel like I was there and it was real! But the story and the mission-mechanic is waaaaaaaay better in this 3rd title… and the world being populated by more than you and the pirates is also good… even being a “lite” version of FC2 in many aspects it ROCKS and it’s a SUPERB game
To be honest, you wouldn’t see enough of Vaas if you played as him in third person.
I really love to hate Vaas
And here it’s proven that all those stupid Skyrim fanboys that keeps defending all Skyrim’s bugs with the lame answer “It’s a big open world game, so it’s bound to have a few bugs”, are totally bogus.
Far Cry 3 is also a big open world game and it has ZERO bugs.
This only further proves that Bethesda has no fucking idea what they’re doing.
Not true. I have myself encountered a few bugs in this game that in some cases forced a respawn or load from checkpoint, however, compared to Skyrim or either Fallout, there might as well be no bugs.
I played Skyrim for more then 100 hours and I have no encountered a single bug, tell me, where are these bugs you speak of? And how does Bethesda not know what the fuck they are doing? They make great games besides for The Elder Scrolls series.
my game of 2012
this was the best game i’ve ever played
Bad-ass soundtrack in this game or at least to my opinion.
I like this game, i really do. But a 9 is far too high. That implies it’s near perfect. It’s not.
The story lacks, the pacing is poor and some of the mechanics are questionable.
It has its cool moments, the hallucination missions, but they’re far too few and not enough to warrant a fucking 9. Too much hyping going on.
Anybody know the name of the song playing during the flamethrower bit?
“Make it Bun Dem” by Skrillex and Damian Marley.
Am I the only one that thinks Joe’s Bad Ass seal makes him looking like he has an afro?
Good review .. I planned to skip farcry 3 and wait until you reviewed it and some time more until it would be sold cheaper. But then sony came up to sell it cheaper before christmas on psn. And I bought it .. and I don’t regret it .. except of the flaws you mentioned in the review. And a few additional ones
Brody is some sort of a lame character – even in this situation (fighting for survival against hordes of pirates and mercenaries) he mostly acts like the stereotypical spoiled “college boy” ..
and there are a lot of other similar situations, that can not just be described as “stupid”, more like suicidal .. and it’s ridiculous, that Jason everytime skinning an animal reacts disgusted .. sorry, killing high amounts of humans in all kind of ways and then this? Maybe (hopefully) all of this has something to do with the dub of the german version ..
Who would seriously cry around loudly in search for his girlfriend .. in a cave full of pirates? If you just sneaked into it?
Vaas makes it up .. and he is really gone too early and in a strangely silent and mysterious way (DLC? FC 4?) ..
And Citra is the typical sex-sells factor .. cheap .. so cheap .. all other women shown on the island don’t get even somhow close to her looks .. ubisoft was not even capable to bring out a shooter with the choice to play a male OR female main character .. and on these islands only men seem to be allowed to have weapons and fight .. shame on you ubisoft, we live in the 21st century and have the year 2013 ..
The story itself is ok ..a little bit esoteric, but how else would it be possible to fit all of this (islands full of pirates and mercenaries, rebels, weapons, innocent collegeboy becomes big warrior) together
The most fascinating part is the wildlife .. really .. many of the animals are unrealisticly aggressive predators .. they are some sort of third faction in this ongoing war .. and they seem to be winning
.. because the damage by many common weapons is as unrealistic as their behaviour ..
The letters of the japanese soldiers may give an answer to this – I smell the possibility of a DLC about a hidden bunker with biological experiments
The animal-skins are some sort of .. pointless .. especially if you took efford to get all upgrades for your equipment .. positive – you will never ever have any financial problems. This kind of crafting is not really a big accomplishment compared with the ones used in many rpg’s .. but for an ego-shooter for sure!
The ability of takedowns in the game is very nicely done as well ..
A game, you won’t regret to have bought, if you play it .. except you have fear of heights and absolutely don’t like jumping and climbing on high radio towers, then you may sometimes curse ubisoft ..
joe you made me want a Xbox 360 and i hope i’ll make the money to buy it soon. But I want to know which game is the best to play with the rest of Angry Joe Army.
have i ever told you the definition of insanity ?
The definition of insanity is, to doo the exact same
thing over and over again, and expecting shit
to change .That, is, crazy.
I don’t know, the first time someone told me that i thought they were bullshitting me, so boom, i shot him.
The thing is, he was right.
And then i started seeing, everywhere i looked. All these fucking pricks doing the exact same thing, over and over and over. And thinking this time, is gonna be different.
that is crazy.
Yes you have
The game was a very excellent experience for new comers in the first person open world experience
I don’t know about this, i say the Far Cry 2 review and say a pretty high score. I got the game, and it was so repetitive and annoying. Every mission was a carbon copy of the first few missions(do this, blow SH*T up. OH and then save your useless buddy because he can fend for himself). I also loved how i drive for half the game killing guard post completing a missions, coming back to that same guard post, and fighting re spawned guards just 10 minutes later. The story was decent for the first 30 minutes then its like the game drops is and says “hey just keep doing the same stuff for 40 hours, and we will update your journal”. I really tried to like this game, because Joe put so much passion into it, and i must admit the first 5 hours of the game i was having a great time, but this is one or 3 games i stopped playing when about 30 percent complete. Having gone off into a tangent does far cry 3 fix those problems? Is the story reinforced? Does the player care about the characters? As of now i am waiting till the price of this game drops significantly, after what Far Cry 2 put me through i have my doubts. Should i put forth the cash and buy it now?
After watching this review it really sold me because it wasn’t the typical first person shooter games you usually see today. I for one enjoy exploration adventure games but of course with lots of guns, sorta like Red Dead Redemption. My final verdict for Far cry 3 is summarized like this:
1) Graphics, location, environment variety are awesome.
2) The introduction to the story felt very engaging and really immersed you.
3) The action is a lot of fun even with a few weapons miffs (silencers are pointless, aiming with some of the weapons can be slightly fidgety). And who doesn’t love the flamethrower part. The animal and enemy responsiveness really work.
4) I love Vaas and Hoyt but i don’t feel like either of them were really developed. Sure the game did a great job exploiting their great insane personalities, but i wish we got to see more of them. Like for instance maybe it would have been interesting if you actually got involved in Hoyts salve trade while undercover and had to chose to either save these people or keep your character. You could really better a better picture to how evil he really is. Idk just something more than like 3 scenes for each character and then a similar stupid quick time knife fight to finish them. Btw did anyone else think Hoyt reminded you of Tony Montana?
5) Both endings really felt half assed in thought. The idea of choice was there but the way each twists is completely pathetic.
6) All the collectibles and side missions really add a lot to the game. Although i will say finding some of the relics were a pain in the ass esp. when there were up a mountain somewhere and you spend ages circling it to find a way up. Even then i had an issue with some of the platforming; it would jump all over the place and even on designated routes gave me a hard time. Collecting materials is a great idea with the crafting system puts them to good use.
Even with its faults i really got my moneys worth i think. The missions were fun, character performances were incredible (the german guy was awesome), the drugged up parts were wacky. I wish you could actually craft stuff like that and walk into the jungle seeing random stuff. The only people worth saving from the provided story is your girlfriend and brother. Riley is your main goal and lisa is sort of a bridge between jason’s old life, and the tribal warrior life citra wants him to take. But in saying that you developed emotion for them.
All in all i give it a 8/10. All the potential is there.
How are silencers pointless? A REAL silencer on a REAL gun STILL makes noise, the difference is that it is silent AT A DISTANCE. I have taken out pirates at about 40 feet from me with a silenced pistol while his buddy only about 10 feet away from him didn’t notice a thing.

The game is very unrealistic to silencers, but mainly because it has to be, because Hollywood has ingrained in people’s minds that silencers will make the gun quiet, even to the point Silencer manufactures now universally call them suppressors to try and avoid the trope.
So if the game treated suppressors for what they were people would be shocked that they aren’t that much quieter. You also need subsonic ammunition, which he uses in the video to get even more out of the suppressor, which the people in the game do not have. Standard ammunition is much louder the subsonic because of the sharp crack of the round breaking the sound barrier.
