theyre desperate for good games
same thing with diablo 3. totally overrated from all the big magazines.
Angryjoe, while i can agree with all of the other controversies, the mass effect one is still a bit of a difficult debate (I know you’ve heard this but give me a sec)
Film Critic Hulk did a segment as did Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw on the ending. Their basic point is that the ending would have lost resonance and strength if individualized and that the endings all confirm a central theme of fatalism.
Now is the anger towards lack of resolution for the former Normandy crew an issue? Yes, but the extended cut helped clear that up. I just simply wanted to post the other perspective
I believe the complaints are more about the fact, that the existence of the reapers simply doesn’t make any sense
Angry Joe, I have to completely agree with you on number one. What has happened is shocking to say the least.
joe you can affort so many games why not buy a ps3 i mean please do if you can thanks or thanks anyway
Some good news: The Czech programmers will be released on bail. They say that investigations will continue, but they’ll be able to go home. I’d rather they were simply set free, but it’s something at least.
What an embarrassment for my country this was – and most importantly, how utterly awful for two innocent (yep I also believe they’re innocent) men to go through an ordeal like this
Greek authorities have always been extremely paranoid about this sort of thing – and seem to be oblivious of Google Maps >_> I can easily find the base I served in, lol…
One Question why didn’t the programmers use Google Maps in the first place if they wanted to create the island in Arma 3. On the other things i totally agree with you
I can’t say I know George, hehe… But I guess they wanted to see what the place looks like with their own eyes so they can make a more faithful “reconstruction”. It’s one thing to see the basic layout and a couple of pictures, and another to actually be there. The “real thing” will always be the best reference!
As Joe has mentioned, the developers pride themselves of ”putting vast amounts of detail into their games”, so my guess is they wanted to see the scenery from different angles to replicate the place more faithfully in the game.
On the other hand, if you do want to spy out and eventually assault a military base assault coverage and building floor plans are enough. You don’t quite need to know the colors of the walls in and around the base. So yeah, this is ridiculously obvious scapegoating.
Satellite coverage, not assault coverage. Bad typo on my part.
As a Czech citizen, I want to thank Joe for including the part about the retarded imprisonment of Ivan and Martin from Bohemia Interactive.
Greece’s reaction is completely unfounded, since both Czech Republic and Greece are members of NATO, making the spying statement that much more ridiculous…
I’m czech too and I pray the guys will get safely home. If anything they’ve made a stupid mistake but accusing them of spying is ridiculous and makes Greece look retarded before the world altogether.
Good news, it seems that they are coming home on a bail. 5000 euros each.
Dude your NATO statement makes no sense what so ever. America has spies in other counties even though it is part of the United Nations. Does that mean that America or any other country should stop spies or stop putting spies out to gain info. NO every country knows that there are spies out in there country. These two guys got the bad end of the stick in this case because the government will try to get you to say that “I am a Spy for this country”. They dont care if you are a game developer because, quite frankly no country really cares about video games and has zero interest.
All these are awful, no doubt about it, but I was so sure the incident with Anita Sarkeesian would be on it that I was a little peeved when I found out it wasn’t. I kept waiting for it.
“Hm. Must be number 8. Oh, number 7 then? 5? Wow, is it going to be number 1? Oh… I see…”
Great show, great list, but if what happened to her wasn’t a spot-on State of Affairs about gaming in 2012, I don’t know what is.
I agree. Scamming thousands of people out of their money for research that she expects others to do for her deserved to be in the top 3 in my opinion.
sacmming? Wow, you totally missed the point. The misogyny dispalyed towards her was sickening and made me ashamed to be a male.
She opened herself to all that unfiltered misogyny the moment she (or someone pretending to be her) linked to her video on 4CHAN, the home of the scum and villainy of the internet that no one should expect good things to come out of. Maybe she didn’t deserve it, but if she intentionally linked her video there, she should have known better.
Also, all of her videos had comments moderated by the uploader, meaning that no comments would be shown at all unless it goes through uploader approval. The one video where all comments were allowed through was the Kickstarter video, which contributes to the suspicion that she was intentionally looking for trolls to leave their bile in the comments section to make herself look like a victim and bait a lot of people into donating money for her cause.
Eventually one of her backers caught on with this thing long after donating money to it, so he made a video calling her out her inability to properly answer criticism towards these questionable methods. It can be seen here:
Sorry. The video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kHOn1UsWao
Sometimes I watch angryjoe’s reviews more then once because sometimes its more fun to watch the review than playing the actual game its self.
ironically, when I saw number 3, I laughed hysterically because I was eating doritos and drinking mountain dew.
Angry Joe DOES have an angle and a voice. His flamboyant, entertaining style. He has the gamer/consumer’s interest at heart. He’s “one of us,” not “one of them.” Forget jerkfaces like Geoff Keighly.
Not sure if Angry Joe reads these forums… Joe, I’ve been a fan since I found your site by accident early last year. Keep up the good work, my fellow, and soldier on!
I don’t care what people say about Mass Effect 3 ending… To be fair, I only played with all the DLC installed, so I only saw the extended ending. While yes, it left a bitter taste in my mouth, I still think it was an AWESOME game right up to that 1% of it’s content.
Hell, I still tear up hearing that theme.
Also, those guys STILL haven’t been released? How in the world can Greece afford any more bad PR than they already have….
well you can look for it on youtube, in fact there’s a video showing all the original endings at the same time, the lack of difference is amazing
Well while the endings were really weird and stupid, it should not destroy the remaining 20+ hours of game
This was a great video! Very well done with doing all the research. I hadn’t heard about some of these issues and plan to speak out now.
You said you are not a journalist, however you exposed the corruption in the games media industry. I think this is the very definition of being in the fourth branch of government.
Glad to have you on our side, games journalist.
Easy baybetta is different because it happened din 2012
So just the year then. So it’s not a real big deal?
No offense, how is Bayonetta different from Final Fantasy hopping from the SNES to the PS?
So many series have hopped consoles…
very interesting list, thanks for making it!
must say i never heard about that guy from number 3, tend to keep it that way, sickens me that reviewers/reporters are being bought.
Hey Joe, have to say number 3 really got to me.
Geoff just shows what is happening generally to the industry (although he has taken it to the next level). I feel more and more, as time goes on that journalists are advertising games not reviewing them, and your number 3 has just showed how untransparent games journalism is.
I seem to be more put off reading reviews from the top sites, especially when a large franchise is bringing out a game, regardless of how good or bad it is, it still ends up with a 9/10.
More and more I’m turning to independent sites like yours, or Zero Punctuation’s for honest reviews (ok maybe a slightly more cynical reviews when it comes to Ben Crowshaw). It is nice to see someone with passion for games. Just please please don’t turn to the darkside, and end up doing product placements in your videos…I do spot a bit of GI Joe advertising
Keep up the good work and Happy New Year from the UK!!!
ok meant to say how bad a game is not how good or bad oops no edit function
