Bladewolf DLC. It’s fun, but I’m not sure it’s worth the money. The only things that change about bladewolf’s abilities are that you can find hidden items that permanently increase your health and energy meter. So no alternate weapons, no unlockable moves, and no upgrades, like increased damage, to the weapons you have. It’s also incredibly short. As I said, fun, but way too limited. I’d have to say, if you’re thinking about buying it, think about what I said.
Joe, solid review man. Nice to see a game that makes you feel like a cyborg badass ninja blender guy. I think a game like this has alot of potential. Hope to see it expanded on in the future with more installments!
This is the worst pile of crap game I ever played.
It’s worst than latest Ninja gayden mixed together with the latest Devil may cry, and this can even go way further both of them together…
Jumping from missile to missile (that seem to be slower than your grandma), the sword is so powerful, that you are all day cutting an enemy and it does nothing, and somehow when he die, every bit you give it will cut the enemy LOL?? (why didn’t it cut the first time then…).
HOPE KONAMI NEVER EVER USE METAL GEAR SOLID FRANCHISE TO MAKE ANY OTHER PIECE OF CRAP GAME LIKE THIS. “MGS” has been my fav game ever since the first one.
Sorry but this isn’t the Metal Gear SOLID franchise, it’s the Metal Gear. Solid is over, so the gameplay is allowed to be change largely since it’s a different setup. “Based in the universe of Metal Gear Solid” Not “In the universe of Metal Gear Solid”
wait there a sec wait a joe means is that and he even said it the game dose need improvements but to cute shit up like that damn joe 1 thing if you like cutting shit up i bet that would last maby 2 more hours than to your 5-6 hours maby a 7-8 hours i go around cutting everything and if your a fan of joe DONT GO DISRESPECTING HIM
seriously Joe, how could you rate a 5-6 hours-bad camera-useless stealth game like this? this is your worst review to date, and I’m sorry to say that but it’s true. who are you? where’s the real Angry Fucking Joe?
Ummmmm….. Stealth game? I mean, admittedly, like the review said, the stealth sections were crap, but this wasn’t a stealth game. How does a game with something like Blade Mode make anyone think of stealth?
I agree that the game is rather short, but I still think it’s worth the buy. It’s not your typical crappy hack n slash game, and the boss fights are just awesome
6 hours?
Were you playing it blindfolded or pause it for 3 hours?
I managed to finish the game in 2hrs 50 min on normal.
This should have been a download arcade game, not a full price retail game.
For what it is, it’s a great hack n’ slash game…but there is nothing to it.
I know people will scream “multiple play through” and “unlcockables”, etc. But it’s only worth one play through and there not that much to unlock that makes you want to come back. Rent it, finish it in a few hours, take it back the next day.
Maybe if you played on the easiest difficulty, and just did the bare minimum of fighting, skipped cutscenes, etc. I know this game took me a while to beat because I was trying to get better scores in the fights. If you just speed ran it, I could see playing through in a few hours, but shame on you for ripping on a game that you didn’t even put any effort in.
On another note, several of the unlockables you can get by playing through it, potentially just once, majorly increase replay value. So way to stay uninformed.
Totally bought it and so far is loads of fun! Thanks Joe I know the price was a bit much, but at least it wasn’t sonic Racing right? I felt so bad for you after that review…also I have an Alien Vs. Predator 2 game from 2001 and there is alien wall walking in it and you get to play a alien. Here is the Wiki of info on the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_versus_Predator_2
It was a very solid game for its time. Why they didn’t ask Monolith Productions to make another game is beyond me. I hope you find a used copy man.
Loved this game but once you complete it that’s, well, it really. I mean, being underpowered against a boss is suicide, but purchase too many upgrades and it’s too easy. Say you bulk up Raiden for the final boss to stand a chance. It makes for a great final fight, but when you reply earlier missions it’s a goddamn cakewalk. Especially if you use Sundowner’s hedgetrimmers.
But hell, the fights were great, the bosses were cool and killing a Metal Gear with an electric pig-sticker is really fucking satisfying. And no 16 hours of fucking cutscenes. And the final boss isn’t an old man with a bad arm who used to make cat noises. Metal Gear never felt better.
Only other thing is Raiden’s badass super cyborg death suit. It has high heels. For the first 3 hours I kept thinking how he was basically a ninja Eddie Izzard. But that’s just Raiden. He has to be kinda queer because, well, he’s Raiden. At least the game showed that the blonde pretty boy has some dirt in him.
Basically, a great game, but the scaling hurts replayability. Maybe some new levels or difficulties in the DLC to patch that up. Most fun i’ve ever had in a Metal Gear game.
It surprises me that no one has mentioned that Afro samurai had a very similar blade mechanic a few years back, and did it well. I didn’t get excited over this demo. But I may go and get it when the price goes down because I enjoy raiders story arcs
instead of buying this half baked idea how about you play a real action game like the upcoming god of war acension atleast in the new god of war i get beautiful backgrounds and a story and freaken amazing action
Haven’t played it yet, though I really do want to; though, honestly I have never really been a big fan of the Metal Gear franchise. In fact the only games in the series that I ever really played were Metal Gear and MGS3: Snake Eater. I liked them both but they never really held my attention for very long after finishing them.
I like this review very much compared to other popular sites. It pretty much covered every inch of MGR, the goodies and the bad. When I first played it, I also had issues on the camera, resulting to a wrong flick of direction for a block.
Anyway, I like the game way back when it was announced in 2009, waited for it, played the demo multiple times eventually deciding to buy it.
To AJS, keep up the unbiased review. More power.
its got that DMC-3 and only the DMC 3rd game feel to it that hypo maaaaddness thats so kooooooool. i will be getting this game soon ty A.J. its what i imagine virgil to be on DmC-5 if bloody capcom put thought into him a lot more
Actually funny enough it gives the option to hide under cardbaord boxes from enemies if you want. There is a stealth mechanic in this game (although not a fully developed one).
This is why I love you AJ. You don’t buy into the hype of games and give high scores just because you want too, but because of actual reasons in doing so. I will be the first to admit that I don’t enjoy the idea of a hack n’ slash being a new implementation for the MG series, but I gotta be impartial. From what I’ve seen, it definitely looks worth at least one play through and will buy it just so my library of MG remains full, but only when the game falls from it’s original price-tag. I could see paying $20-$25 on this game. As far as rentals, my belief if I’m gonna hold the game, it might as well be mine. I don’t like playing a game for a bit and then sending it back, only for a week later to want to play it and it’s not there. But I’m going over-board. You do great work man, don’t ever stop!
Uhh…do we really need a reason? And retard? Right, right, on that note, what kind of retard would ever want to buy a game to kill people, am I right? Who’d ever want to grab a game to simulate a shooter and watch heads explode on screen? So stupid right?
Get the stick out of your ass, you pretentious shit. The only thing you’re doing is making yourself look like the retard here, Guybrush, which i wouldn’t exactly poke fingers with a dumb as hell name as that one.
A Metal Gear Solid game should never be 6 hours! I don’t even care if it’s a spin-off. That’s like a slap in the face to the franchise… that makes me so disappointed!
Right, if its staying true to the franchise it should have been 4 hours long. Or am I remembering how short snake eater was differently from everyone else :3
I preordered this game based on the demo, and what I got didn’t disappoint. It was an action game that did swordplay right, and expected more out of the player every step of the way than any of its peers.
If anyone, ANYONE walked into this game expecting Metal Gear Solid, then it’s their own fault. Also, anyone complaining about the difficulty of the game have only themselves to blame, as you can’t really spam anything and expect to win. The only thing I wished for (than a longer playtime for a story mode runthrough) was perhaps a tighter restriction on parrying attacks, especially at higher difficulty levels, but aside from that the game is practically as close to perfect as a first outing could have been.
It only makes the inevitable sequel prospect that much more desirable, and to be honest, all other third-person perspective action game developers should take serious notes on how to keep the player engaged and constantly learning new strategy. God Of War hasn’t been this enthralling, DmC wasn’t even close, and I’m placing my vote on this title for the new action series to keep an eye out for (hyuk hyuk) in the future.
The game was great but i wish it went deeper in its story than “harvesting children brains”, i liked the whole nuclear and patriot plot of the other games.
The characters are awesome but i wish they told us more about sam, he seems to have deep potential.
you did a great video A.J keep it that way
by the way, isn’t Volgin the one called lightning bolt in mgs3 ?
Both of these figures are as of 2/24/13. So, that means we’re full-on into March of 2013, and there’s already 800,000 copies sold. That’s a game released on 2/19/2013, mind you. So, we’re at two weeks into its post-release lifecycle, it’s already charted to have sold 8/10 of a million copies, and that’s “why sales are craps?”
I’m just saying, the last time I checked, selling a million copies wasn’t “are craps.” Sounds like someone needs to do some research, play better games, and learn how to use the English language to a higher degree than a third grader. Just some helpful information.

i must tell, i like this game but Joe, yuo must tray metal gear solid and make the review
there is new DLC and is the music for this game on itunes

On my personal scale this game clocks about an 6 of 10.
Entertaining
Decent story
Pretty solid gameplay
As for problems.
-Exploits
-OP sword
-I *PERSONALLY* thought the AI was as brain dead as something ripped out of Aliens Colonial Marines
Joe, solid review man. Nice to see a game that makes you feel like a cyborg badass ninja blender guy. I think a game like this has alot of potential. Hope to see it expanded on in the future with more installments!
Is the game open world like Just Cause and Red Dead. Or is it more like Dishonored were you are in a small area to do you mission?
It’s more like Dishonored. It’s not open-world.
why did you not review the new army of two when you reviewed the 40th day
This is the worst pile of crap game I ever played.

I mean, it’s like rewarding devs for making short half-finished games and release them full price
Where did you see it was a stealth game?
It’s a freaking hack and slash!
Ummmmm….. Stealth game? I mean, admittedly, like the review said, the stealth sections were crap, but this wasn’t a stealth game. How does a game with something like Blade Mode make anyone think of stealth?
This game is just kickass on its own I loved every minute of it solid 8/10 for me
there’s alot lacking in this game.
Not as much as that claim.
I agree that the game is rather short, but I still think it’s worth the buy. It’s not your typical crappy hack n slash game, and the boss fights are just awesome

I’m still not too sure about this one :/

Well Rising is completely different to any other game in the series

Hey Joe, are you planning to review Tomb Raider or Injustice: Gods among Us?
60 bucks for 6 hours……………
Game should have been at least 8-10 hours.
Yet they almost always approve that price point on release dates, and puts little to no focus on length or how few content a game has.
its got that DMC-3 and only the DMC 3rd game feel to it that hypo maaaaddness thats so kooooooool. i will be getting this game soon ty A.J. its what i imagine virgil to be on DmC-5 if bloody capcom put thought into him a lot more
Love your reviews as always.
However, I can’t get behind a game that doesn’t have me hiding underneath a cardboard box from enemies. (sarcasm)

Fruit Ninja 3D!
who the fuck wants to cut a cat you retard?
