Larian Studios gave me the opportunity to check out an RPG that I recently backed on Kickstater! Divinity Original Sin is an Old School inspired isometric cRPG with Turn Based Combat, Multiplayer and a Map Editor. Check it out!

Hey Joe, if you like so much isometric-view, turn-based, hardcore role playing games, you should definitely try Arcanum Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura for the PC if you haven’t already. That game is an absolute old school, it’ll make you destroy your keyboard because of the difficulty. The steampunk setting is awesome, and the storyline compelling. You know what? After you done playing it, you should review it!
I just sent some coin their way with 4 days until pledge deadline. Glad I caught this review otherwise I would’ve missed it.
I think a series of reviews on smaller, more obscure kickstarter type titles is a great idea Joe. We all know bigwig companies can produce shit and can express outright contempt for their customers so it’s nice to see lightweights get some positive attention and success for a change.
It does look cool. I’m a big fan of old isometric games as well as turn-based tactics. Shadowrun returns also looks very interesting.
Looks pretty cool.
I would have never found this gem if it wasn’t for this post. Got my PayPal support in with 8 days to spare, thanks a lot
I noticed the developer is supporting another kickstarter project – a three-faction PvP MMORPG project called Camelot Unchained. Got any interest in that one, Joe?
Hey Joe love your reviews!!!!!!! any chance of you reviewing Path of Exile or Warframe Both are free and not pay to win I would really enjoy your breakdown of those games
Hey joe…They featured your comment in the kickstarter retrospective they did…NICE!
God damm it I was 1 houer late to donate xP!
You still can. The paypal account is open for another 2 weeks. They needed another 5k for the mil, though they will implement the NPC schedules regardless.
This game in its preliminary form looks pretty good. Hope it gets a good review in its polished form.
Wow, this does look promising.
Now to get friends…
Hey Angry Joe!
Could you maybe check out the game Sui Generis, by Bare Mettle Entertainment. It’s also a kickstarter game bye the way. Here you can check out their home page and kickstarter page:
This game looks BADASS O_O which is amazing since I have played several of the divinity games in the past and didnt really like them much… but this… wow I really hope it’s as awesome as it looks cuz this seems like the game I’ve been waiting for since the recent X-com.
I have seen a lot of your Reviews and I just wonted to say that I really look up to you. And every time I go to game stop I take what I’ve learned from you when I buy a new game so I just wonted to say thank you Joe.
Joe can you switch to something besides youtube? Ever since the end of march it is unwatchable. Nothing ever loads, and even when it says it does it will play the video for a bit and then decide where it is is the end (ie end time 20:38 suddenly becomes end time 1:45 and all the rest of the bar goes away, and can only be recovered with reload). I haven’t been able to successfully watch anything for over a month.
Before anyone says it, yes it is youtube. Every other streaming service works completely fine, only youtube has even the smallest problem, and I watch most things on other services in 180 without issues.
Its because youtube have stopped buffering their videos so anyone that has a slow internet speed are screwed. You said 180, did you mean 1080? Try it in 480p instead. Also are you using IE? Try another browser like Firefox.
That game looks really awesome. these kinds of videos are good but the real show here is the review. these videos give us more insight towards the non- AAA games and this is good letting people know about the smaller games out there…… looking forward to trying this game
another Divinity game, which has changed from a third person RPG into a isometric cRpg? I Remeber back when I played the Divinity Dragon Knight and were it kinda sucked, I hope they make something better of it guess. so good luck?
please do more V-logs. It’s cool to see and it’s better than waiting for what sometimes feels like an eternity in-between reviews. keep it up
It has CO-OP MULTIPLAYER!!!
There’re 7 and I’ll repeat 7 cRPG’s for the PC platform. This news is huge for all RPG enthusiasts.
Been a Divinity fan since Divinity 2, Dragon Knight Saga obviously. Ego Draconis christ!
Nice video, Joe. Keep up the good stuff, you’re doing it right!
And get better soon.
I love Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga! Signed and backed.
This looks awesome, I’ll have to pick it up when it’s out.
The PayPal is still open for another two or three days. Should do a bit for backing if you want to get the game a little cheaper and get some of the other kickstarter goodies involved.
Oh oh! Preview Chasm, please! There’s an awesome demo for it!
Joe, you should consider linking TB’s video too on your next post, since you seem to be interested in promoting the developers. It includes gameplay footage from both Original Sin and their other game Dragon Commander, which is coming out this July and is already available for pre-order on GOG. Not that saving 5$ is usually worth going in blind, but it would be good to raise some awareness.
Looks like a good one. You should definitely do more preview stuff like this this, very interesting to see what’s coming up.
Looking interesting indeed. I hope we will see a resurgence of turn based RPGs.
No other genre I miss so much ^^
Funny because i just finished Divinity II Ego Draconis and it was not a uber great game still i had fun with it and was happy to close it. Now, i was really looking for the next one but now that i see what the FUCK they are doing with it, destroying the gameplay, the fact that it was still a soloable game and now they are corrupting it with the ”Weneedmultiplayerabsoluptly” plague virus like all those other weak company that can’t stand for their game unless they get multi in it… Simply says i wont buy that game.
Sorry mate you didn’t follow it all the way through, it’s a single & co-op so it’s not weneedmultiplayerabsolutely plague.
Take a look at some of the vid’s most of them will be co-op but there is no difference between single/co-op aside from the fact that you controll all the party members
Couple of comments. First, Divinity: OS is following more closely to the roots of the series (Divine Divinity) with the combat being one of the strongest differences (ie DD was action/click). The turn based combat in this game will provide much more depth of tactics than is common in action games (ie strategic use multiple stage environmental effects with spells, and circumstances). As for multiplayer, the game is a solo game as well where you control the party. Don’t think in terms of some weak half assed co-op gimmick some other games do, this one is designed from the ground up with detailed interaction and purpose of such play for solo and multiplayer function. It isn’t an an “afterthought” feature at all.
Joe… You may not think I like you or your videos because of my comments….but I do.
That being said… can you please review something before the end of the console generation?
Do a video on every game you Kickstart Joe.
@Lordbloodysoul You never played a game before then?
Videos like these are always good and interesting, so i´m hopeful that you keep doing them! Good for many things and also to peak an interest in new games or Kickstarters that one might not even know of yet.
Keep up the good work.
i’m not a big fan of strategies but this one looks cool.. i’ll be sure to check it out..
more V-logs.. they be more awesome..
That is awesome! I think it’s the first game that I see using elemtal effects and terrain like that o.O
I surely will buy that one! This is awesome!
Hey, Joe. If you get a Playstation and like Hack and Slay, maybe you should try Dynasty Warriors. The Empire version of DW is even a bit more strategic. ^_^
It realy will be great if you do more of these videos
Would love if you do more things like this, Joe. It’s nice to see your opinion on upcoming games.
I should try the preveiw
You must do more preview
Backed this a while ago, but it’s nice to see it getting some recognition towards the end of the KS campaign. Hope to see you all in the KS comments section (if you can keep up, heh). Thanks, AngryJoe.
Awesome preview. Thanks AJ And Larian !!!
What’s even more cool… you don’t have to wait years for this to come out, it’s planned for this fall
KS: http://to.ly/l8Rt or PayPal: http://to.ly/l5VB
The game looks really cool and combine alot of elements in video game that i find very intresting and fun, and i like it if joe can post more vlogs especially about kickstarter projects.
Old school, hard ass, strategic gameplay in an RPG with depth that rewards exploration. I couldn’t back it fast enough. Thanks for the preview Joe
Great video Joe! And thanks for raising awareness for this game.
The old school CRPG’s that are being made (Project Eternity, Wasteland 2, Torment etc) did kind of overshadow the lesser projects that will be available to us this year so I’m glad you, Jesse and some other youtubers I follow are endorsing this.
I really wish them the best into getting as much money as possible and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I enjoyed the Divinity franchise very much.
I hate multiplayer in RPGs, although the implementation here is better than most, as typically players other than the host are barely more than controlling a companion while one guy plays the hero, but otherwise this game looks really cool.. I’ll certainly look in to it once it’s out.
This is going to be epic!
Join the “Weresheep of Original Sin”order on kickstarter by adding a extra $6 to show your support.
This just really looks so promising a game.
Also the kickstarter is really cool, Larian is in essence using the money they would have made from the game to make it better!
Also you simply can’t beat the pricing they have out there. 40$ for 2 copies and if you take a higher tier you also get Dragon Commander which will be released in July and is on Pre-order at the moment…
I really like the idea and if it’s work’s fine then finally we can RPG with my friends because there is no more time for us playing D&D in the flesh (everyone is working), and MMO-s really not the same. The turn based fight awsome and that you can create your own Adventures, so I really like can Dm for the guys
I’m interested in these kind of videos Joe gimme’ more!
ps.: Still I try to be not too optimistic. There are many projects witch looked like this and failed. I hope it’s not.
