Grand Theft Auto V was definitely the best game!
If you love strategy games, Joe, then you REALLY need to buy a 3DS for Fire Emblem alone! It’s now one of my all-time favorite games and my GOTY Runner-Up, only behind The Last of Us. My full list of GOTY contenders are 10)BioShock Infinite 9)Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag 8)Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 7)Pokémon X/Y 6)Super Mario 3D World 5)Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch 4)Grand Theft Auto V 3)Tales of Xillia 2)Fire Emblem: Awakening 1)The Last of Us
Here is my top 10 of 2013 based on the games I’ve played:
1. The Last of Us <————- this game deserves a review, seriously 😛
2. Assassin's Creed 4
3. Tomb Raider
4. Bioshock Infinite
5. Metal Gear Solid: Revengance
6. Metro: Last Light
7. Mortal Kombat
8. Soul Sacrifice
9. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (both episodes)
10. Muramasa Rebirth
none has doubt that video games are not good for us and for especially children. As the recent games only focus on vilence and massive death
Spoiler alter would have been nice on bio shock
I heavily disagree with you on your bioshock Daisy complaint. I saw a violent radical beneath her exterior from the begining and her transformation was almost subtle for me. She was gruff and strong at the best of times, she didnt go for inspirational hero, she was a violent but passionate freedom fighter. And its pretty historical for Liberators and Freedom Fighters to turn out to be oppressors and terrorists when the dust settles.
Joe, I would recommend trying:
It was released in August 2013 on Steam, as well as some other consoles I believe.
From the Steam store page: “PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original PAYDAY crew – Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains – as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree.”
In short, you rob banks, jewelry stores, and pull off other heists and crimes for big cash and experience rewards. Cash is used to buy and customize your weapons and masks, and experience is used to specialize in either Mastermind, Technician, Enforcer, and Ghost skill trees. Each tree has perks that let you perform your jobs better, such as extra cable ties, more powerful weapons, efficient drills, and stealth abilities.
It’s a lot of fun for just $30, and especially worth the buy if you ever see it on one of Steam’s many sales!
I only own a PC so I can not say anything about other games on other platforms but over all I say less and less games are making mark each year, I played tons of games in 2013 and I have to say, only few stayed in my head. Playing a game is like reading a book for me, it really needs a good story or fabulous ending. If neither is there, well… it sux. So my top games that made impression on me:
1. Bioshock Infinite
2. X-Com: Enemy Within
3. Metro: Last Light
4. Path of Exile
5. Shadow Warrior
6. Saints Row 4
7. Crysis 3
8. Dead Space 3
Easily forgotten games of 2013 by me:
Assassin Creed: Black Flag
Those 2 games were given a lot to much spot light in my case, Tomb Rider never was my favourite and this one was just better graphic and the same jumping and stuff, personally I always enjoyed Prince of Persia more then TB, personal taste, jumping with swords against weird dark-sand things is more fun then standard people.
As for Assassin im not a fan of this game, they are… overrated. Yeah idea od cool looking assassin is nice but not in this scenerio, if it had more style like Dishonored, darker and dirty as real assassin should be, well that would be interesting. (Job of Assassin is not so flashy as in this game, maybe that is why I dont like it)
For my top games:
Bioshock – first 70% of the game were awesome, then I started to push some boring get that do that stuff and last 10% of the game were awesome again. Views… mind blowing, story like a really good book and the ending, something marvelous.
X-Com: Enemy Withing – They implemented what this game was lacking, more alien tech, more firepower, more everything. I agree with Joe it only lacked more cinematics and ending but big, big THANK YOU for this game to developers.
Metro – Very good story, best part is that it aint easy to get VERY good ending, you need to restrain yourself from killing and listen to everything. But I missed the tits… I like tits (I’ll play it again someday anyway, nothing lost :P)
Path of Exile – I started to play it recently, but beta was in 2013 so I try to fit it in here. Free game with far brighter idea on hack&slash. For me Diablo 3 can hide from this game. It is a rising star on a market, it is free game with microdonation that DO NOT effect your gameplay, they only change visual effects of your character. In this game after you end your adventure after 3rd difficulty you dont grind it, you drop special maps with instances where you can go alone or with party of random people or your friends. There are unique items that give you big burst of power but for a price. Unusual currency and most importantly skills and passive skill tree. Tons of skill gems that you put in to your items, combine and upgrade to see most epic combos, this is simply awesome. Best hack&slash I`ve ever played after Diablo 2. (And it is far harder then Diablo 3 with leveling and killing bosses)
Shadow Warrior – Mass killing spree with a sword and guns FPS, thats what I got to say. Beautiful graphic, good story and awesome slashing. Tiring sometimes but still best gore FPS of 2013.
Saints Row 4 – Brainless and funny, good game to relax
Crysis 3 – I waited for it, I was hoping for a comeback after Crisis 2 and it did improve but did not rip my ass… I had fun watching marvelous graphics, and shooting with a bow for most of a time. Story was good and I liked the ending it was pretty and cool at the same time.
Dead Space 3 – I`ll start with FUDGE YOU EA ! I love DS 1, I almost shit my self when I played it was that good, DS 2 was still very good, but DS 3 kept me only for story. It did not surprise me many times, but Im sentimental that is why it is on my top games last place.
All other games that I did not include in my post, just evaporated from my mind, not worth to remember. This is my and only my opinion on games that I wanted to share, if you agree with me thats cool, if not, well we are are humans and we have different tastes.
This is my first post here, I was watching your vidoes Joe for some time and I have to say keep up good work. You`re the man when it comes to reviewing !
Ah forgot to mention.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is equal to Shadow Warrior on my list, cuz Im proud of my country latest work in game making. After Witcher 1 and 2 some good games started to pop out
Fantastic Top 10 list Joe, I imagine it must have been hard. Personally I could never do it, I’m always so torn regarding good games and they all deserve an equal place. Although I did see you complain regarding Daisy Fitzroy, and her potential of being a great protagonist. Now I do agree with you to some degree on that prospect. I still find her portrayal as bitter, broke and resentful women more realistic. With all the audio logs (voxophones) that you find regarding, she did not show any inclination that she is in any way compassionate. She became or formed this revolution out of hate and spite for the injustice and atrocities that the founding fathers committed, all that racism, class segregation, female discrimination and etc. From my point of view she was portrayed to hate not only the system but the people that are in charge and involved in it. Whether or not her 180 on Dewitt and the attempt on a Childs life is a indication of the that bitterness I cannot say.
From history I remember allot of revolutions being bloody. Take for example Czarist Russia and the Russian Revolution, which had a series of events that occurred from both the revolutionaries side and the old autocracy. It is quite similar since the revolutionaries were peasants, workers and lower class people that wanted the abolishment of certain practices. They had good intentions but it ended up in bloody revolution with the Czars family murdered and terror groups forming and killing government officials, police and other who might oppose. And you know what outcome that followed. Another example would be the French revolution, whit it having both positive and negative outcomes. It did portray a man Maximilien de Robespierre, who fundamentally believed people were good and advocated against the death penalty and the abolishment of slavery. His contribution were immense and he was deemed as a just, lawful and incorruptible person. However during the French Reign of Terror, he was pinned as the man responsible for as much as 40,000 saying that terror was necessary unless the revolution would be sabotaged.
Now this Robespierre was an intellectual and Daisy was just a serf. She is more characteristic of the common rabble that massacred countless of innocents during the Russian revolution out of bitterness jealousy and hate. By any means, I would love to see her as a Hero to the people and maybe in an alternate reality she is, but I find it unlikely that a serf(slave) that probably doesn’t even know how to read, that has know only abuse from her “better” is capable of being a compassionate and loving person. The world has only shown her the backside of her hand.
Again great Top 10 list, hope 2014 will be as good to us as 2013 was.
P.S. to bad TLOU did not make it, I would have love to seen where you would you have placed it and how you would have adressed the the OK gameplay and the great story telling.
“to bad TLOU did not make it, I would have love to seen where you would you have placed it and how you would have adressed the the OK gameplay and the great story telling.”
TLOU had imo some of the best “gameplay” of the year…. (at least on hard it felt like the some of the best of the year…., better than GTA V.., even if GTA V had “a lot” of Gameplay….)
TLUO won A.I.A.S GOTY (and 9 other A.I.A.S awards), Joe should maybe really catch up on the Game…
on the otherhand, because of it’s success, TLOU2 should come to the PS4 at one point or another… , imo TLOU franchise should be pushed more than the Uncharted franchise…
(but TLOU2 on the PS4 might not have the same impact TLOU did on the PS3, because in the mean time there’ll be alot of other surivival/horror/stealth games comming out, getting inspired by TLOU, TWD, ZombiU & Co…., so if Joe has a chance to grab a cheap PS3 or lend it from a friend, TLOU is one game on the PS3 he shouldn’t miss…, and shouuld be play straight on hard..)
