What game or games would you recommend to fresh new gamer to help them get into gaming and give them the best experience I would personal suggest The last of us as I feel right now it shows of the beauty of gaming as a whole and what direction gaming is heading what about you??

Depending on what you would like to play. You'd like to see some historical masterpieces, or some unique games'n such thingies or something like that? New gamer could pretty much take any game from shelf and try it. I guess gaming is like cigars, you just have to try and find the right one for ya.

It's hard to really recommend what games, but I guess I would recommend one game from each genre for first, and then give more of variations to the genre tree.

rairoken16 and 2ofSpades like this

I say start with Nintendo games. They always tend to have a fair balance of difficulty and they always have a lot to do in them. Plus Mario, Link, Kirby and co. have some really good games.

Ratchet and clank and mario games. Just something simple enough who is a noob to gaming to be able to pick up and play. To people who have been playing games forever you might think omg play last of us or battle field, but trust me, I've seen people who like almost never played games growing up and they are so clueless and uncoordinated playing these games. SIMPLE. Maybe not too hard. Last of us is one of the goriest games I've ever played also so I don't know if that's for everyone lol. A noob gamer might never get through parts where you have to sneak past clickers.

Simple games. Maybe even Castle Crashers if you want to try your start up with Buddies.

What ever. Just play everything you get your hands on. After some time, you will know what you like and put more effort into researching more games in this area.

I very early found out for example that driving and sports games are completely worthless for me.

But as most of them said, just take best games in every genre in last 5 years and start playing thous.

Wouldn't something like Journey show the beauty of gaming? The Last of Us is a third person survival shooter. I'd recommend that game to someone looking for that, but not someone looking for the "beauty of gaming."

Try Dark Souls. Don't be intimidated, the difficulty is exaggerated.

It's not just genre we have to look at, but whether you want a cinematic experience or a game experience. Cinematic games like Uncharted, Last of Us all show storytelling, movie quality action sequences/drama in amazing real time. However a game experience does not root itself in trying to be a movie, things like Nidhogg, GMod, Demon Souls etc. The focus is different.

You should try the Mass Effect series immediately. You can buy the trilogy as a bundle this days, however, used at gamestop separately might come cheaper unless you also find a used ME bundle. For a new guy, it shouldnt be so hard and im not saying just my favorite game, ME is one of those franchises that all gamers of every stripe should at least try.

I'm a little late to the party and since I can't be bothered reading the other posts, I'll just post this as if nobody else has said anything.

No doubt, The Last of Us a great game, but a challenging one, so not one I would use to break someone into gaming with. If it has to be a modern game, I'd say a story driven RPG with an extensive tutorial, conventional control and an adjustable difficulty would be better. Fallout 3 may fit the bill, or possibly something a little less serous like Ratchet and Clank.

I would recommend Team Fortess 2, keeping in mind it is rated mature. It's a free to play, has a brief but good tutorial for new players and let's you practice with AI before jumping into the online multiplayer.

Honestly it depends upon what kind of games they want to play. Shooters Fallout New Vegas. It's very big with lots of interesting characters, it's challenging enough to teach players about what to do and not to do, but easy enough so with a little work they shouldn't get discouraged

It all depends on preference, but if you want to ease someone into gaming a gauge their preferences you might want to try different games from each genre.

  • Supermario Bros.-multiplatform- Good platformer for new gamers to jump into.
  • Metal Gear solid series-PS1\PS2\PS3- Semi stealth and if gamers want to have a story driven cinematic experience.
  • Okage Shadow king- PS2- A standard RPG that helps ease users into the turn-based battle mechanics. (You might want to try the Persona series as well)
  • Thief 2: The Metal Age -PC- Awesome stealth game (Pure artistic kleptomania)
  • BF4or Call of Duty -Multiplatform- Easy to pick and play FPS games.
  • Metal Slug Series -PS2/PSP- A nice game series to ease you into the shootem' up genre.
  • Torchlight 2 -Steam- A nice intro to action-RPG games.
