Did anyone else change the thermal paste inside the PS4?

Inside a PS4

I felt like i had to change it because of what i was hearing from the first initial reports of PS4's that were failing, a light bulb went off in my head that said bad thermal paste.  Granted i just got my PS4 yesterday but wanted to safe than sorry.  I voided my warranty in the process but that shouldn't matter since my CPU has some top notch paste covering it.  :D

What reports are you referring to? I couldn't find any about a significant number of PS4s failing.

On point though, I think you made a mistake voiding the warranty a day after you got the console. I don't know anything about PS4s failing, so I can't say If you've actually fixed it, but If It should break, for whatever reason now, you're pretty boned, unless you happen to have an extra 400 Dollars lying around.

If It had broke within the first year, or however long the warranty is, free fix. If It breaks now, expensive fix.

I have to agree with Berserker. I've had my PS4 for a few weeks. I've kept an eye out for any major issues after launch and I haven't seen anything about major overheating problems. I would never suggest someone void their warranty. If it does overheat in the first year, you'll get a full replacement anyway. If you are really concerned about it and want the peace of mind, you could get the extended warranty for 3 years for I think $60, although I personally never do.

So again, I just need to say I wouldn't suggest anyone else do that, but good luck to you!

Had the ps4 for about 3 months with no problem and I never heard anything about over heating issues. The warranty seems more useful to me then a little thermal paste but who knows, hope you don't have any problems later on!

congratulations on voiding your warranty for no good reason.

Apparently the ones ordered from amazon had the biggest issues, when i changed the paste, it was pretty dry already which was disappointing.  Its been running nice and quiet so far.

I've seen some of the reports of overheating but it wasn't a substantial number, and even then I think I heard that the system shuts itself off to prevent self cooking. I've had mine since launch and I haven't had any heating issues. warm, yes, but not to a concerning level. If you know what your doing, then god speed, but I personally wouldn't do it myself or recommend anyone to do it since it's better to not have the warranty voided just in case.

Wow, you are already adding new thermal paste for the system and you did it the day after you bought it? There must be a lot of reports on this for you to be that worried about it.

I would have done the same thing, but only after the warranty expired. Rather have them worry about replacing it for free. Always wondered how its circuit card looked, so thanks for that :)

I've had my PS4 since the midnight launch and have no problems except for the controller (the thumbsticks wore out really quickly).  The warranty would have covered you had anything gone wrong.  With a new system there are MANY things that can go wrong, you may have prevented one but you have left yourself without the financial protection of a warranty should anything else go wrong.  Never void the warranty.  If you want to open your console wait until the warranty expires.

You make a valid point.  As far as the thumb sticks, I bought thumb stick extensions from Kontrolfreeks.com cause i heard about that being an issue, and because i have big hands.
