ESO Store to sell horse mount for cash... (feedback plz)

17 posts in this topic

So is this were it all starts guys? I'm not trying to be a downer and I'm still going to play the heck out of this game... but seriously they are already offering in-game goods on top of services and the game hasn't even launched yet.

Source: WARNING EXTERNAL LINK!

Quote from With Matt Firor ( http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=33999 ):

"What types of items or services can we expect to find in the Zenimax store?

The purpose of the store is to offer interested players a variety of additional services. At launch we’re going to have two items: the ability to upgrade to the Imperial Edition, and an entry level horse (Palomino colored). The horse you get in both purchases is functionally the same, but the Imperial Edition is the only way to ever get the White horse. We have the Palomino horse available to allow players to purchase a basic mount without purchasing the entire Imperial Edition."

I really want everyone's feedback here because the AJSA seems to possess a much more leveled and composed head on their shoulders than other communities. It's causing a lot of online forums and boards to run around like the sky is falling.

Your thoughts?

Cheers.

They don't need our money for that, until AFTER they make em.

Personally I dont mind ESO selling horses for real cash. From what i have heard they are crazy expensive (for ingame currency) to buy but at the same time kinda gives players incentive to work for gold. Yet the distances in the game are huge and some players might be to lazy to earn a horse the old fashioned way so this provides an alternative to those lazy players. When they start selling items that cant be otherwise earned through hard work within the game (ex: Imperials) thats when the marketing gets harder to justify. (even tho I bought the imperial edition :( ).

but with pre-money they can make a super ultra amazing game like fallout 4 but it will be better because a shit ton of money.

but realistically they are doing it because in the end they know they can get away with it and have more money. i hate this idea because a bunch of people aren't going to have the fun of working up coin to get there horse and will just take the easy rode thus taking away from the game.

When it comes to ESO and their pull for more $$ I happen to side with ESO over those who want the game to be f2p. With us continually giving the developers money they become more obligated to add more content and consistantly improve the game in order to get us to keep on paying.

Meh, it'll just increase they're profit margins. Its unlikely they'll put more money into making it just because they have more money.

Well they had already stated you could buy the imperial edition as an upgrade from standard.

Giving people the option to JUST buy the horse if they want it, doesn't seem an issue to me?

I guess my worries would increase if they were selling non-appearance gear-anyone hear anything like that being proposed?

Personally micro-transactions don't bother me TOO much. What does bother me about them is their ability to be abused. At the moment I don't really care as even if a player does buy a horse for real money it doesn't give that player an unfair advantage over a player who can't afford to buy it with real money. The horse is exactly the same as can be bought in game and, while expensive to buy, it is not impossible. Reminds me of buying a WoW mount back in vanilla when it actually took work to save up for. So far so good. Even if they add aesthetic things you can buy with real money like new hair styles or whatever, I'm cool with that. It doesn't change the dynamic of the gameplay. What I DO have a problem with are micro-transactions that allow cashed up players to buy a super powered sword, for example, with real money, and that sword or its equivalent is not available in game in any other way than with real money. And it is so easy and so tempting for publishers to bring that in if a game starts to struggle as it nearly guarantees that players will buy it in order to remain competitive.

Care not........unless they allow full modding for those games because I have little faith in Beth in certain aspects of their games.

Yea I no faith in that after FO3 and Skyrim(a big step up from Oblivion but still lacking in some key areas).......but maybe they learned some things.

As long as they keep it on mounts, pets and cosmetics then I can live with it.

Not happy, but live with it.

The second I see crafting mats or gear with stats then i'm out.

Don't really care if they charge for a mount, it'll just mean a few less walkers for the early low lvl PVP. I will be upset if they start selling mounts you can ONLY GET through paying real cash. They can charge 1,000,000 gold if they want but it damn well better be possible to get it without paying real money. (the only exception to this is white imperial horse)

It always amazes me what gamers will swallow when it comes from their favorite franchises. This situation is utterly disgusting. This has confirmed that ESO will be pay to play, have a subscription model AND have a F2P-style microtransaction cash shop that will be selling in-game items that should be coming with the subscription. I stopped playing WoW when Blizzard pulled this bullshit. But at least they had the decency to wait a few years before they put up a cash shop. ESO actually has the gall to do this on LAUNCH. This will only be the beginning, though. You can bet your ass that Zenimax will continue to add more in-game items to the cash shop just so that they can milk even more money out of you.

I'd say you just pulled that out of your ass. Zenimax Online and Bethesda are NOT the same company. The same people own them, sure, but they are not run by the same people. Also, Bethesda is NOT "making" Evil Within or Wolfenstein. Like Brink and Dishonored, they are merely publishing these games; they have no creative control over them. Whatever money-grabbing schemes Zenimax Online will use with ESO, it is to line Zenimax Online and its parent company's pockets, and will not go to develop any other games. That's what the subscription fee is for, after all. To MAINTAIN ESO itself. Supposedly. But then again, Zenimax Online has lied before, so who the hell knows where the funds will be going?

Its a business like everything else, its actually shame on us because the more we are willing to pay the more they will continue to charge.
