Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Fandom?

So with MGSV's release just around the corner, I wanted to know who or if anybody else was excited for it. I know I sure am, however it seems like the MGS fanbase has all but evaporated over time.

You see, I created a forum for Roleplay on FF.net to kind of celebrate the new game as well as to take control of the universe and bend the cannon (sort of) if anybody wants to check it out, everybodies more than welcome (I'll post the link at the end of the post)

So what I ask is this to the people who have never played the games and are just skimming; what do you guys think of the trailer?

And to those who are into the MGS games; What do you think will happen in MGSV based on what you've seen in the trailer as well as the way Kojima went about marketing it?

Last Metal Gear game I played was Snake Eater on the PS2.

I only really use my PC now and it won't be released on that so, sadly, Metal Gear has gone the way of many other titles into the list of games I will never play.

I'd get excited if it was announced for PC. Until then I'm forced to pretend that I don't care.

that you're pretty good?

I am, but that's Ocelot my favourite character in Metal Gear Solid, "Your pretty good" along with his hand gestures are his catchphrase.

Yea I'm aware. I'm not the biggest MGS fan around though lol.

Even though I am still on Peacewalker and I haven't played MGS for very long (But I bought the Legendary Collection so that was easily fixed :)  ) since I've only been playing it since late 2013, I have to say I've grown more attached to the characters than any other game series. I had to write an essay about somebody we admired for a literature class and I wrote about The Boss. My teacher was glaring holes through the back of my head due to the fact I forgot it had to be somebody from a book, but I just couldn't think of anybody inspirational from a book, so I wrote about her instead. I nearly began to cry when I quoted Eva's speech at the end of MGS3: Snake Eater and a few people actually did.

I got an F on the assignment but I didn't care, and to this day I don't care. She is one of the most inspirational women of fiction I have ever known.

I've never played MGS so I have no opinion. Is it worth going back to play some of them? If so, on which should I start?

Start with Metal Gear Solid 3, then Peacewalker, Then MGS V, then The twin snakes (which is downloadable now), after that MGS:2, then MGS:4

Thats the timeline they take place in anyway.

It looked like a decent stealth game. I usually don't play those that much, but I loved MGR so why not giving it a shot? Then I watched Ground Zero review and I was like...... meeh I don't know. Sure the game will be much huger, but such an open world stealth thingy is probably not that much for me.

And we all know how obfuscating the stories and character's names are.

I'd say unless you're a huge fan of the MGS franchise you can skip it and wait for Phantom Pain instead.

How convenient for me that's the one I've played. (someone else gave me their video game collection and it was among them)

Kojima has said that MGSV: PP will tackle taboo themes and that it will be a very mature game. He even thought that the publisher might not allow him to release the game the way Kojima wants it to be. It takes place during the bloody Soviet war in Afghanistan so there's plenty of controversial themes to comment on. The trailers show at least a lot of torture, child soldiers and have an altogether grim tone so this is probably the darkest MGS game yet. In other words, I couldn't ask for more. The last time Kojima tried something rather risky with a game, it backfired on him hard so kudos for him for trying again.
