Net Neutrality - Fight Harder For It

7 posts in this topic

To those of you who dont know what Net Neutrality is, or what the plans of corporations and he FCC on how to screw us over will be, read this article.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/04/23/306265434/reports-fcc-poised-for-about-face-on-net-neutrality

Write your senators. Protest. Pickett. Do not allow net neutrality to die, or everything you know and love about the internet will die with it.

Joe, just realize that this WILL impact your job if it gets put through. ISPs like comcast and the like will restrict user access to youtube and other places. We need to take action NOW.

This is setting up for Google fiber to be our savior. I dont even like Google but since this is more than likely going to be going through there our only hope.

That's the thing. First off, it's beyond your control so there's no use stressing out about it. Secondly if Comcast were to throttle several IP's, many people would switch to other ISP's that don't especially if it were Youtube which everyone watches. Politics is completely Taoist. You can't have a yin without a yang.

It ISNT beyond our control! This is a legal matter and we can take action NOW.

It threatens the free market economy the internet has. It slows the sharing of free information to a screeching hault. Google fiber ISNT going to get here in time, and Comcast has control over the entire eastern seaboard. Are you really going to sit idly by while we get screwed over and you wait forever for Google to save you? Be a man. Take a stand. If we treat this issue like we treate SOPA, we WILL prevail.

And politics is NOT taoist. Senators are obligated to support their areas, otherwise they will be more than likely voted out next election. If you people just wake up and contact them, we'll be able to fix this whole situation. The government cant just ignore the populus. Its not possible. They tried several times and failed.

if we make the internet it's own country, then no-one can ever mess with it being neutral again.

This is serious. If we allow these changes to continue, we'll be looking at what SOPA could have been.

Here are my arguments as to why these practices are illegal. Throttling internet connections are first off,  an unfair practice toward a free market economy, and that is one of the reasons why this country was founded,to have a free market economy. By throttling connections or straight up shutting IP addresses down, Comcast will be denying web shops like Amazon and Steam from providing their services by making it near impossible to get a connection.

My second argument is that most people on the US East Coast have no choice but to use Comcast. It's the only ISP we can have. It's unfair to over a million people who are just using the internet for work, school, or trying to kickstart their own business. If we did have the ability to use Google Fiber, we definitely would! But we cant, and there's a chance that we never will because of Comcast's control over the region.

My final argument is perhaps the most important one: These actions are a direct violation to the freedom of speech and assembly. If our connection to this website gets throttled, it is impeding on our ability to communicate and voice our opinions. If Skype gets throttled, we wont be able to talk to loved ones overseas. By restricting that freedom, or making us pay extra for it, they are VIOLATING the prime directive within the Bill of Rights that made it possible.

This cannot continue. It ends here.

"we do not allow any threads regarding religion or politics on these forums unless they are gaming related."

I know a case could be made for this being gaming related but I'm making the decision that it is not.
