Check Your Account Security!

10 posts in this topic

Change your passwords, update crap or whatever you need to do to keep your account safe!

Apparantly, South Korean Gold Farmers are hitting accounts hard. Might have been a breach in security, maybe someone dropped the ball, but a LOT of Guild Wars 2 accounts have gotten hacked. (Mine has been too)

You might have gotten an email saying your password has been reset.

You might have a login attempt from KR (Which is South Korea)

  • South Korea ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and WMO country code
    • .kr, country code top-level domain (ccTLD) of South Korea

You might also have a Pending Authorize Login from CN (China)

The forums on Guild Wars 2, Account issues is FILLED with Threads about hacked accounts.

(Here are a few thread titles)

"Relentless Attempts to Hack Into Account"

"Be Careful (Might have gotten hacked)"

"They stole everything"

"I keep recieving emails that"

"Account terminated after hacked/compromised"

"Keep getting password reset emails"

"Friend account compromised. Guild bank stolen"

(This is from the first page)

"Get your act together Arenanet"

"Account hacked, can't submit a ticket"

"Hacked account"

"got hacked today =( i am naked and gold less"

"Stolen account and guild bank"

"help me please, hacked account"

"hacked account"

"can't login"

"My account has been hacked"

"account terminated after getting hacked"

(From page 2)

You can check these on the forums.

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/account

I can't even login because the account is saying it's terminated.

Make sure if you have had any issues, to send in a SUPPORT TICKET to Arenanet.

They CAN roll your account back to before it has been hacked and you'll get your stuff back.

BUT MAKE SURE TO CHANGE PASSWORDS AND SUCH!

Even if you have an Authenticator, check! Folks are saying Authenticators didn't do anything to stop accounts from getting hacked.

That they never even recieved a notification from it.

If you see an account login from Texas (TX), don't panic.

(I believe the IP starts with 67, but if you see that, that is 95% likely it's the ArenaNet server communicating with your account).

I had it pop up a few times, but after google searching the IP, I found out it's on ArenaNet's end.

I never played GW2 before, but I do believe this has gone to far. But it also begs the question: Are they looking for someone/some people? Or is this just like NSA where everyone is just getting their information farmed just for the heck of it?

From what it seems, GW2 just recently updated to the MegaServer, and they ALSO just launched Guild Wars 2 in China back on April 30th.

People who have been compromised are seeing Trusted Logins from SOUTH KOREA, and Login Attemps from CHINA.

I think, there might be, a connection here.

AKA - Game's up in China, South Korean hackers hack NA accounts, sell them to the new players in China.

Perhaps these series of posts from ANet might shed some light on their methods... and how you can prevent hacks like this:

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/account/Account-Security-What-you-need-to-know/first#post3884132

Another thing is that some of these hackers are setting up the 2-factor authentication to lock someone out of their account... so if you haven't done so, set it up now.

More and more forum topics are popping up about hacked accounts so it's not just a small issue.

I contacted ArenaNet about my account and they reactivated it and are resetting it back to March 21st.

Thankfully, I didn't play GW2 since then (As ESO was coming out) so progress lost will probably be very minimal. (Or nothing lost at all)

Been warning anyone I can because it's not the accounts I'm worried about, THOSE can be reverted and corrected.

It's that, some people may have purchased Gems and may have selected to save their Payment info so they can auto-buy gems at the click of a button.

Folks were saying that after their accounts got hacked, they'd suddenly lose $100-$150 from their bank account in gem purchases.

Wow, blackmarket scheme?

I was wondering about the huge number of gold spammers who didn't have random names that had been appearing lately.

This is some scary sh*t.

This isn't too new, just on a much larger scale than before. Heard from one person back around launch that had an attempted log-in from someone in China.
