Best movie licensed games

35 posts in this topic

It seems to be common practice for game developers to make laughably terrible movie/film licensed games. Nonetheless there are some that deserve to be played and are given a bad name by other games of the type. I personally loved Spiderman 2 for it's gameplay and open world even for the playstation 2. So my question for you all is what are the best movie licensed games?

SpiderMan 2.

Ragdoll Physics?

Open World?

Combos?

A good main campaign?

A good side quests?

Realistic web swinging?

Nuff said.

Can't remember specifically which one but played a few half decent ones based on the Lord of the Rings on the old PS2. Although I did pick them up 2nd hand so price wasn't a factor. Some decent large scale battles in from memory. Actually the Matrix reloaded game was decent as well and added a bit to the actual movie

Most are terrible though and not worth it unless your a real fan of the film as they are quick cash ins. Pretty much same can be said in reverse with movies made based on video games. Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Double Dragon the list goes on!

Harry Potter 2 I played it back when I liked that piece of crap films, and it was really fun. The last good one was 5/6. When I saw Joes review of the last two games I was sad he did not played the previous.
HP 2 had the freakin game they play I don't know they call it. You collected beans to get better brooms, world was open.
In the 6th game (my favourite I guess) you could have mixed potions, you had wizard duels etc...

If you mean just a NAME (it does not follow the story-line of a movie) than: LORD OF THE RINGS BATTLE FOR MIDDLE EARTH 1 (that followed the movie) and TWO (that followed the books).

Oh and the Harry Potter games, the first three, were not bad and I enjoyed the open world of Hogwarts. Along with the Quidditch video game but not sure if that counts since it isn't really tied to a move but rather part of the movie and books, though I'm going to throw it into the mix as well.

For the time I actually loved the games based on the Transformer movies (I thought the destruction was badass!). Scott Pilgrim: The video game, X-Men Orgins, and Star Wars: Battlefront II are my favorites.

Goldeneye 007 (N64)

Because I love it. This game is my favorite FPS on N64. Goldeneye 007 was based on movie. They did followed the movie, book, and well as original.

It's kind of a shame that Radical we t on to make Spider Man 2 like 6 more times after this.

And then used the same engine fro Prototype. And Prototype 2. (Seriously it's the same game)

Other good ones:

Die Hard Trilogy (Fun)

Ghostbusters (Faithful)

Alien Trilogy (Great for the times)

Aline 3 on the SNES - Shit was THA BOMB

New Ghostbusters 2 - Nes not to be confused with the other Ghostbusters 2 game.

OH YEAH GOLDENEYE!

Ther is a southpark movie, therefore southpark is also a movie franchise.

I would have to say Batman Returns for the SNES. It was your basic side scrolling level-based beat em up with end bosses. It covered all the main parts of the movie, and I really liked the battle mechanics and pacing of the game. I had a lot of fun on the level that you get drive the Batmobile. The only complaint that I ever had was that you would lose some health every time that you used the cape sweep maneuver. This game gave me hours of fun, and I replayed it on each difficulty level while still enjoying it every time.

That's like saying The Powerpuff Girls is a movie franchise because they only released one movie out of a bunch of TV episodes. It's a TV franchise with a big budget movie tied in.

Also, that South Park game was NOT released in response to the release of the movie. The recent game was released purely to make money off of the show.
