Wade D McGinnis

DreadOut is OUT! Indonesian Horror

10 posts in this topic

Hey guys and gals, James here aka Wade D McGinnis. Wanted to give a shout out on an indie title that jsut released today. DreadOut! A third person supernatural horror game in the same vein as Fatal Frame from the PS2/Xbox days.

Story...

When a group of high school students went astray from a field trip, they came across something totally unexpected. A town long forgotten trapped in a peaceful state of slumber. What they did not realize was what lurks within. And what seemed like an innocent stroll turns into disaster as the secluded town reveals its dark and terrible secrets. The presence of sinister forces from beyond their realm of existence.

It all comes down to Linda. She will experience stirrings of unfamiliar powers, emerging from within herself. These new found abilities might just be the only way she can save her own life and those of her friends.

Now if you are unsure whether to pick this horror title up, you can try the demo! The demo is a proof of concept build and really hammers home the atmosphere and all around horror.

Reason for me bringing this game up is one as an indie title, this game really scared me. Was one of my first face cam horror games ever is the other reason. Finally, this brings back great memories of Fatal Frame, a series I adore even to this day! Imagine being forced to go first person mode to fend off the ghosts. You don't want to really be that close to them but the closer they are too you, the more damage you will do to them. It is tense and a very natural way of inducing fear in the gamer.

The game is currently on sale for $13.49 or your regional equivalent and for any fans of Fatal Frame out there, this is a must buy!

Below is my experience with the game. Enjoy...

I don't do horror games. I prefer to limit my chances of having a heart attack.

Will be live streaming this. Starting tonight at 10:30PM PST. Will go for about an hour or until I need to walk away and look at kitten pictures to calm the nerves.

I've played it...

I started playing it last night and recorded, but the audio quality then video completely crapped out on me.

So had to redo it with Fraps instead of !ACTION and it's worked so far, just can't use my webcam.

The game.... is a mixed bag.

When it first starts out, it's so... hilariouslly bad.

The characters feel like they jumped straight out of The Sims with the movement animations from Armed and Dangerous

(

)

The voice acting is actually, good. But that works against it. With the characters being so... Sim like, the good voice acting just feels too good to match the models.

The atmosphere though once it becomes night becomes awesome, during the day, not so much.

Enemy design is good though.

But one thing I cannot stand, is how often it has to load.

In the first area, there are tiles on the floor. Every black line of tiles, is a loading zone! And these things are like, every 5 seconds of running!

And I thought maybe it was my PC, but I went back and forth over the same spot and you could see the pause where it has to load the area you're walking into.

What makes it bad, is it's the kind that if your mouse moves during the loading, it's still detected so it skips around. It also loads when entering rooms so running from an enemy gets challenging when fighting with the camera...

Will be uploading it tonight but... hopefully the game picks up when I play more into it tonight.

Agree the load times are bad. Though one thing to know, this is part one of the game. Part two will be free for those that paid for the first part. No word on when we will see the second half however.

I haven't played this so my points my be wrong, but I'm not that interested in it. I've had my fill of indie survival horror.
