First game(s) you ever played?

48 posts in this topic

The first games I was introduced to were Half life, Doom 2, and the Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of time. This is what sparked my love for video games and ever since then my library has been growing. What were the first games introduced to you?

Doom on PC was my first game. I was 6 years old and my dad said "here play this." Never looked back and have played videogames of many genres ever since

The earlist experience of gaming that I can remember (gulp, about to show my age) was a cartridge for the Atari (cant remember if it was the 2600 or the 7800) that had multiple 2600 games like basketball, bowling, combat, boxing, space command, among others.

From there I moved onto SNES, N64, PS2 abit of PC connecting the dots here and there and the rest is history.

I recall playing a game where you played an Indiana Jones type character navigating a side-scrolling 2D maze where you fought the proto-typical videogame villain...the bat! I remember it being in two tones on an old CRT monitor in a sort of pea soup green.

The game I fondly remember playing and would certainly play again was Jazz Jack Rabbit. A fantastic platformer.

After these gaming experiences everything becomes a bit of a blur as I started to play a SNES at an afterschool childcare programme and not long after that got my first console, a PS1. Happy days.

While I can't recall the first game I ever played, I do remember some the first were

Megaman X

Super Mario Bros (most likely three since most of my early gaming was the snes)

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

A few others that I can't remember. What I do remember is the first game that was specifically mine, which was Super Smash Bros. I remember my eldest brother giving it to me for my birthday and I remember so many amazing memories from that game.

Me and this mad shellfish are brothers, so suffice to say my early game experiences are pretty much this to. I think the cartridge was called 32 in 1 and I believe it was an Atari 2600 Junior model.

The earlist experience of gaming that I can remember (gulp, about to show my age)

On this forum we have so many people that started playing games in the Xbox/PS2 era that even mid-late 90s games can make people look old when compared to some responses in threads like these.

I'm only 19 but I still remember playing games like the original Doom when I was very young. But I mostly grew up playing Crash Bandicoot on the Playstation and the original Total War games on the PC. I also played a game called Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee that just had a HD remake called Oddworld: New n' Tasty. I absolutely loved that game, even though it was frustrating as hell.

The first game that springs to mind, was Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive. I mostly watched my brother play because I was really young, but I do remember playing a few games with him on that old thing.

I'm also really glad that I'm "old" enough to have experienced the joy that is huffing and puffing the fuck out of game cartridges until you pass out from oxygen deprivation.

My first memory of a video game was Sim City, you know the old school one for SNES.  But the first game I ever played was Street Fighter II Turbo that I received on Christmas in an SNES bundle when I was like, 5 maybe?  But the game I remember playing the most was Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis.  I still hold on to that memory, the one where I was walking down the steps on Christmas morning and seeing Sonic race across the old school bubble screen TV.  I know it sounds overdramatic but that moment was like receiving that cliched shiny red bike as seen in all those Christmas films, ya know?

I know what you mean, but it was a part of the experience ya know?  Did you ever play Sonic and Knuckles?  I remember trying to put in every game that I had hoping that Knuckles would show up in it lol.

I remember my Dad pulling out an Atari they had in storage, completely surprising me cuz I didn't know he had 1.  I mean I'm 25 so I'm old enough to remember the console age, but I remember playing those Atari games with him thinking "Wow, Sega totally blows this away!" lol.  But either way it's the moments I shared playing those games with him, and he did whip my ass in baseball so I guess I can't really talk too much, ya know lol?

Pong.
A weird Star Trek inspired game in Basic.
Then a dozen Atari games.... including the tank one and Galaga.....
Tapper and Alleycat (on DOS 3.1, on a green screen).

I feel old ¬_¬

Hard to say which game was my first. It was something on the C64 or Atari 2600 or maybe the Star Wars Arcade game.
