Digital vs Disc

8 posts in this topic

So I have a preorder for Diablo 3 UEE at my local game store. I've been toying with the idea of getting it digital because I heard there may be a drop in character action FPS on a test with the retail version.

I don't know if this will effect gameplay much or even be noticeable but the Digital edition is £15 more expensive.

Can anyone provide evidence one way or the other? I realise it's not released yet but maybe there is an article or a forum post I've not found.

While sometimes the disc just points you to some drm and gives you a code, I will agree with Soullnsurgent.

Disk due to daily cap and slow internet here. I'm basically paying premium for 5mbps connection here in our country. That said I started going all digital on my vita , 3ds and probably any future handhelds since carrying small catridges can be risky.

Digital Games

Pros - Digital is mainly better because of these reasons: convenience and playability.  I say playability because the download is always there in your history, so if you delete the game due to space and you want to play it - let's say months down the road - you can simply redownload it without paying a cent.

Cons - It can be more expensive than hard discs.  For example, Dragon Age: Origins is 19.99 on PSN (last I checked) and Dragon Age: Awakening (the DLC) is 49.99.  You think to yourself, "Hey maybe I can get the hard disc of Awakening?"  Well it doesn't work out like that, it needs hard disc data of DA Origins to work, so your practically forced to spend $50.  Next, though you have paid for the game it is not entirely protected.  Let's say you have to restart from scratch, new account and everything else, that's it, that game is lost so now you have to pay for it all over again.

So definitely stick with the disc.  I mean once you buy it, it's yours.  Only go digital if it is absolutely necessary.

Thanks for all the advice I definitely think i'll stick with the disc.

Is there any truth to the rumour that frame rates are better when playing a digital download though as the disc is limited by the speed of the Bluray reader?

On the PS4 physical discs fully install so there isnt any difference in gameplay compared to digital, the disc is only inserted to play the game to check if you have the disc, unlike digital which just checks your licenses.
