Happy 15th birthday Sega Dreamcast

9 posts in this topic

Happy Birthday Sega Dreamcast you were an amazing system with some great titles.  I remember buying you on launch and jumping straight into Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, and Ready 2 Rumble boxing.  Closest thing we had to a Punch Out game until Punch Out for the Wii.  That moment when you are taking on Chaos as Super Sonic will always stick with me.

The hours injected into PSO.  I'd do it all over again.

I'm with ya there.  Aside from the slight yellowing mine suffers from it still runs like a champ.

The Sega DreamCast was THE greatest console ever made.

The console was way ahead of its time, introducing features that became standard to consoles today. They had built in modems that allow you to browse the net and play online games. They even had a dedicated server system called SegaNet, which was the building blocks for services like PSN and Xbox Live.

Then there was Alien Front, first game to feature live in game voice chat. NFL 2K1, first football game with online play. Phantast Star Online, first console MMORPG. Jet Set Radio, popularized cel shaded graphics.

And Shenmue, step forward for open world 3D gameplay, and introduced QTEs.

Happy 15th Sega Dreamcast!

I was only seven back then and the best I had seen was PS1. Though not sure if it was even that early when I first picked up a PS1 controller. I remember playing on a knock-off genesis at some point, but hell if I can remember how old I was back then. Knock-off as in it had NES games for it. At least as far as I can remember.

Was it this system that Powerstone was on? (I think it was the name) Been years since I thought about that game.

Indeed.  Power Stone and Power Stone 2.
