Awesome obscure game music & hidden well known game music thread.

780 posts in this topic

Time to carry over this thread from the previous forum!
I just had a thought, we all know catchy and memorable video game musics over the years, like the Guile theme, the MGS theme, Final Fantasy Sephiroth's theme, you know, the classics that most gamers seems to know. But what about the obscure ones that's so awesome that it must be heard but unfortunately aren't because they're not that well known? That's why this thread is for those songs, to spread the awesomeness to the world that's been surrounded by terrible Boy Bands, Justin Bieber and Glee songs. And of course to see how many of you like a game for it's soundtrack as well as it's gameplay, as well as show you guys these obscure games as well. Just to remind you, this is for not so popular game only, so Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Tekken, Guilty Gear and Mass Effect are all out.

I'll start. Got a whole lot to uncover here. If you can, name the game and just post the song link bellow the game's name.

The second version of this song, which is more complete

If you want to download these songs without needing to buy them through itunes, you can do it by copying the links of the song, and go to this website.

After that, just paste the link, download the song and its all yours. Have fun!

And the Sega Remix version, which also kicks ass.

And Killer 7, Suda 51's best game in his collection.

So let's start uncovering the various epic music of the obscure games buried under the other more popular games!

New website, same thread :P

Been replaying Unreal Tournament 2004 and man... The music is kick ass and really pumped the adrenaline!

Of course! There's a lot of awesome obscure game music out there and we only scratched the surface! The world must know of these awesome songs!

Hm, Unreal Tournament. Its a pretty well known game, but I havent heard from it for a while. Oh well, still the music is awesome.

Here's the songs from this badass obscure game Mafia, and its sequel. The main theme songs are the best.

I find it odd that only 2 videos are permitted each posts. I guess its to prevent overload in one screen so its more stable?

Hehe, that was me. Here's some other songs I posted:

Home Of Light from the excellent and underrated game X3: Reunion

From the old Midtown Madness racing-game:

And, not as obscure, but recently I've been listening to music from Divinity: Dragon Commander. It's really good. Here's an example:

Heh, I finished the main story, I now need to do that last case, or at least, I think it's the last one. It's a bit different than the other ones. I haven't started it yet.

Did you figure out the metal detector part immediately or did you struggle on it a bit?

Case 5 is reaaaalllly long. Its as long as 3 cases in the main game. Good luck with that fellow attorney!

Anyway, to celebrate on your victory, here's another song.

And this next one is from an iPhone game by Square Enix.

It's a shame that the game soundtrack is not available. The song is badass!

Yep, I just figured a metal detector would be most useful. Hardest part for me was the second day in court, for some reason.

Well, I don't mind a long case :D I liked the movie-studio one the best so far.

Oh yeah, I also posted this song in the previous forums. It's not in a game, but it fucking should be!

Jean Michel Jarre is amazing. He also made a song which was later used in a game called Captain Blood. Never played it, but always loved the song:

That second part is so eargasmic...

How obscure is obscure?

The original American McGee´s Alice soundtrack is one of my very favorite ones. It just works so well within the game and Ive used it to great extent in tabletop rpg´s as background music

Couldnt quite get the embed to work, so Ill just put a link to the soundtrack here instead.

By obscure means its a game that most people will not know about. For example, its like mentioning a game called super bunny samurai slicer 2000, which will make people say "what the fuck is that shit??"

American mcGee's Alice counts! I don't know about that game until I saw the sequel.

This game isn't THAT obscure, but it's quite old and this is an absolutely brilliant piece, so I present to you New York Night from the Driver soundtrack.

Driver

Also I just remembered this ancient gem

Last Ninja

Really takes me back.

Btw, thank you so much for posting those, that is an amazing soundtrack.

Oh man oh man, Obscure Music in Video Games, I've come to the right bloody place thats for damn sure, I value Game Soundtracks more than you could possibly imagine, here is a few...

(K, seems like it doesnt like more than 4 Youtube BBCodes, so the rest are Hyperlinks, enjoy.

Composed by Erina Niwa, Masafumi Takada and Masakazu Sugimori. Seriously Pumped Powerful Hyper-Techno, starts a little slow to say how fast paced it is, by 1:10 its starts going. If you've not played Vanquish already, for the love of god play it.

ToCA 2 Menu Track made by Codemasters, Original Composer is Ez Rollerz and its called 'Retro'.

ToCA: World Touring Cars from Codemasters, I've forgotten who the original artist was but he was British.

Street Racer, this game came out on the Psone in 1996 and the soundtrack sounds far too good for that time. Composed by Allister Brimble who also then did the soundtrack for the Driver games.

My personal favourite was this one, Raph's Theme - the 50's lookalike bloke in the Red Viper

Anyone who had a Psone must've known about 'Kula World' - a puzzle game developed by a Swedish Startup, composed by someone called 'Twice A Man' - I don't know his real name, this was the most famous track played on the Egyptian Levels.

The Soundtrack to 'Ground Control' released by Massive Entertainment in 2001 on PC, what a game, but the composer Ola Strandh - is a godamn genius - his military string orchestral electronic edged music is a work of art and is massively underappreciated. Just take the time to listen to the compositions as they morph and change in a way you will have never heard before. The music carries a lot of tension and realism to it, its strange but the 'Emotional Impact' & charge of it makes it feel truly real.

Theme for the 'Order of the New Dawn' fanatical zealous worshippers of the sun

Populous: The Beginning, composed by Mark Knight, I wouldn't say this game was obscure in the slightest, but I really think the soundtrack was underrated

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuDV-qrL5H8

This however is pretty damn obscure, perhaps the best thing Crave made xD I dunno man I just had this on Psone - Wipeout-esque racer called 'Killer Loop', it was mediocre but the soundtrack was 'Goa Trance' - yea...most people don't know what that is =P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7srQMVPrkig

Sorry if this rediculously long, but I do have a big library of Game Music as you could imagine, I'll post more in this thread (In shorter amounts), stuff like Homeworld, Syphon Filter, Starlancer, Rollcage, Battle Isle, Dune - I try to dig up who the composers are as well, so if you want something identified ask me and I'll try and find out.

Man thank you so much for sharing, I played about half of those games and had totally forgotten about them, that seriously brought back a ton of memories :D

I just remembered, a long time ago I used to play this MMO called Knight Online and it had some great tunes.
