New Ghostbusters movie reboot will not acknowledge the original films.

Finally, a new Ghostbusters movie. Although because Harold Ramis died, this won't be Ghostbusters 3 but instead a reboot. The director of the movie is Paul Feig, the director for movies like Knocked Up, Bridesmaids, and the Heat, 3 movies that I love and I laugh hard at. Here's his comment on the new reboot.

"I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn’t gone through it so it’s like, oh my God what’s going on?"

And he stresses that "it will be a complete reboot that won't even feature cameos of the original characters. When asked whether or not we'd see any of the older cast members returning, even for cameos, Feig was adamant that if it were to happen they'd have to be new characters. As the older movies won't be referenced in any way, it wouldn't make sense for these characters to exist."

I ain't watching this movie. NO! Why bother rebooting a classic if you don't have a cameo of the original crew??? You just don't do that! You can't have a Ghostbusters movie without Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson! (RIP Harold Ramis) That's like having an Evil Dead Reboot without that awesome Bruce Campbell cameo at the end!

Maybe he's just teasing people. There's no way there's no cameo from those guys. Still not going to watch the movie when it's released. The Ghostbusters 3 that everyone has been waiting for has been made anyway. It's called Ghostbusters the video game.

Because rebooting/remaking a movie/Tv-series in an awful way is good business?

the only thing that is worrying me, is that Anita Sarkeesian is helping with the making and writing portion of this new ghostbuster movie. (see spoiler for le proof) Yes, I do want this movie to be good....but, I don't trust hardly anyone who is part of the team making this movie. But, I'm gonna go see it in the theater on day 1 anyway cause I love the ghostbusters. But, whether or not I will continue to see it afterwards...depends on it being good or not

To be honest, I was always skeptical about Ghostbusters 3, but seeing it turning out to be yet another crappy cashgrab reboot to cash in on people's nostalgia turned me off completely.

Also, having professional victim/attention whore/female supremacist (yes I refuse to call her feminist) Anita Sarkeesian involved with the movie makes me have some serious doubts about the film.

Definitely a won't see for me.

Why the heck should they acknowledge the originals?

They are trying to recreate the brand in a new image, the original cast wouldn't exist in the universe they are trying to create.

Not exactly seeing that as proof of Sarkeesian being involved with the film. Most of the text in that was copied from the director's tweet announcing the movie. Looks to me like that was just her wanting to put in her own two cents on the film.

AAAAHH!!!!! STOP TALKING ABOUT "HER"! Don't you know you are making her more powerful? She feeds off publicity!

Her being Her.

Just close your eyes and click your heels together 3 times while quietly chanting "She's not a real gamer, she's not a real gamer, she's not a real gamer..."

AAAAHH!!!!! STOP TALKING ABOUT "HER"! Don't you know you are making her more powerful? She feeds off publicity!

If anything, I'm trying to stop us from talking about her. She has nothing to do with the film, has no reported ties to it, and has only commented on it's existence. I'm trying to nip the flood of "OMG SHE'S INVOLVED WORST FILM EVER!" comments in the bud before it gets started.

Now, can we please relegate talk about her back to where it belongs- that it is to say, punchlines- and let this thread get back on rails?

Anyways, I'm optimistic about this film. Well, okay, optimistic for me translates to "It probably won't give me eye cancer/an aneurysm". But, we've yet to really see so much as a trailer, so that's subject to change.

Well now, that gives me even more reason not to see this movie! Thanks for that info!

Well, yeah, it's a reboot. It wouldn't make much sense to have them appear as the same characters.

If you want to spread bullshit about people the least you can do is to actually research/learn anything about that person or to at least know how twitter works. All Anita said was YES! MT (modified tweet), as in it is a retweet that she added YES! and @paulfeig (the director and the person who originally wrote the tweet) to. If what you said was actually true then when I type in Anita Sarkeesian Ghostubsters 3 into google the first result listed wouldn't be this thread.

At least have a cameo like other movies with iconic characters playing their roles returning! Like Starsky and Hutch, Bruce Campbell in the latest Evil Dead movie, Original Spock from the new Star Trek movie, with possible other cameos for the next Star Trek, the original Django in Django Unchained among many other examples.

They can come in the form of just regular bystanders, or even in a surprise twist, alternate universe versions when the new characters fight against Gozer and then Gozer with his/her power shattered reality temporarily causing different universes to collide. So many possibilities!

He said that if they cameo it would be as new characters so that could still happen

Original Spock from the new Star Trek movie. or even in a surprise twist, alternate universe versions when the new characters fight against Gozer and then Gozer with his/her power shattered reality temporarily causing a different universes to collide.

The entire movie would have to be written with a plot just to bring in old characters then instead of having the movie and cast stand on their own merits.

No need for the old characters to take over the movie. They can pass the torch to the new characters and have the new character be a successful successor to them.

Let's just wait and see what will happen. Good thing is the director creates great movies that I personally enjoy and laugh loud at, so we know that this new movie will be at least good and fun to watch.

Reboots suck no matter who how or when, I'd be damn excited for a sequel but Murray saw to that and then Egon died and well might as well let it die. This reminds me some people wanted to reboot Buffy a while ago, which is also very sad news.
