Horrid Ubisoft Experience... from a Former Employee

There are no words to describe it. Just none and yes, it relates not only to Assassin's Creed but PC games as well with the CEO saying that 90% of PC Gamers are pirates. Just heartbreaking.

Exactly what I expected from Ubisoft. No surprise here. I've always said that a good game will sell no matter what, and even the people who pirate it, will eventually buy it when they have the money. Funny thing is that games like this WON'T sell to those pirates who usually buy games after playing them.. And hell with this amount of negative press I'd hope that only the initial sales numbers are high for unity and that it will plummet to 0 after the word gets out.. Because that's what this game AND company deserves. In comparison I'd like to think that EA isn't similar to Yves and that they actually are cool with the PC.. At least from what they have done (Or exactly what they haven't done in terms of horrible ports, etc.) I can't feel any malice from them.. So EA is cool with me.. Ubisoft can go and choke on a console for all I care.. :/

Well, just as anything on the internet, take it with a grain of salt because it's, well, the internet.

As for the rant itself, nothing new was said, really. Of course there are pirates and of course there'll always be pirates when it comes to pc gaming. Especially if the game that's presented doesn't justify it's price. And I don't believe that making bad excuses and shitty pc ports will change that in any way. But that's more or less due to the fact that the CEO is not from gaming industry per say. It's generally just some economist who only cares about the numbers.

This shitty employee treatment is the same thing with Rayman Legends. That game was supposed to be released really early in 2013 for Wii U only. The workers are given shit pay and are forced to go overtime without the extra payment. After all of the hard work making that game, it's delayed because it's going to be multiplatform. Which I don't freaking get. Why not release the Wii U version first before releasing it for other consoles?

The developer for the Metro games series too, they have to work on even worse conditions because their company don't want to give them a good workplace, so they have to work using folding chairs an an office that doesn't look like an office but a school cafeteria, and use crappy ancient computers. It's just heartbreaking seeing how much pain they have to endure.

And now another employee has said his dissatisfaction to the way he and his co workers are treated. The one part about the article that gets to me is the lack of concern by the CEO saying the reason the PC ports for games is because "90% are pirates anyway." First of all, this retard is just talking from his shit that's somehow transferred from his digestive system to his brain. Second of all, if it's true that 90% are pirates, what about the 10% out of millions that wants to play your game and are contributing to your success you stupid cunt?

This kind of article makes me want to just stop buying Ubisoft games, and I did after buying Child of Light and Watch Dogs. Not because of the games, they're actually really good and Watch Dogs is one of the best open world games I have ever played without me ever having performance problems like other people, but because of the disgusting moral of the higher ups at Ubisoft. But at the same time, I want to support the employees that have worked their hardest to make the games on that poor working condition. So I don't know what to do. I'll buy their games if it's really good, at a discount price. Currently the only game I'm interested in is just Farcry 4.

ubisoft tbh may have a point tho not quite 90 % but atleast 45 percent of pc gamers i know would rather download a game for free if they could, but still no excuse for making bad ports on purpose

I want to see this explode more and by that I mean some other former and current Ubisoft devs coming out and telling about these issues.

That should make the execs think about what they're doing.

At least most EA games ran on 60 FPS while Ubisoft decided to ran this game on 30 FPS to make it more cinematic. Yves, this is a video game, not a movie. Get your facts straight!!

Uhh, no one else thinks this sounds sketchy as fuck? Some website called Stagger'd is reporting on another website called ASidCast, which is reporting on a now deleted reddit post. The post itself is vague to the point that it could be from any "unnamed industry insider tells about poor working conditions" posts/blogs that have popped up in the last year or two, with the exception of one implausibly stupid quote from the main guy at Ubisoft. There is absolutely no credibility here.

Don't get me wrong, I have no love for Ubi, but if I'm going to get out my torch and pitchfork and join the mob, it has to be for something real and not "my friend's cousin's roommate heard it from a guy."

It is quite a shame that their games aren't 60 FPS, but that doesn't make them unplayable. What you should be more angry about is the PC Gamers are pirates part.

In all honesty.. I now expect Ubisoft to come out and say that "We said that 90% of the PC gamers are pirates only because we wanted our working environment to be more cinematic!"

It's sad that they have to make excuses like the "Cinematic" line just so they don't burn bridges since they can't just come out and say that the new consoles are underpowered and can't play the games they make at 60 FPS. That being said, it is a non-issue for me personally, the more alarming points of this news are how the employees are treated, along with the "PC Gamers are Pirates" line.

I'm 99% sure that this case is more cause of horrible optimization then anything else. Looking at the poor situation of the game on both PC and consoles and I'm pretty sure that the consoles CAN show that kind of graphics (The game isn't anything special in terms of graphics.).. But Ubisoft just generally porked up the whole game.

Oh as far as PC goes, it's most likely poor optimization. However I can't shake the feeling of it also having to do with parity between all platforms the game is on either, also goes for Watch_Dogs. The new consoles can definitely show amazing graphics, but not necessarily at a stable 60FPS, which is why I said that the "Cinematic" line is an excuse.

Werther this post be true or not, this whistle-blower is reporting the Ubisoft CEO overworking and underpaying employees, forcing them to work unpaid overtime, insulting PC gamers by saying 90% of them are pirates, outsourcing PC port work knowing that it wouldn't be up to standard, and we are STILL focusing on frame rates!? That the big controversy here with you!

I'm sorry, I really am, but this nonsense has to stop and people need to start focusing on what's important, regardless of opinion at least the rest of the people on this thread are topic.

Anyway, I'm going to give Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt on this as there is no real proof this is real, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if it was. If it is real, it ups the ante on my current contempt for them based on their conduct this year. There has been good things, like child of light for example, but this company that I used to like have really lost their marbles.

I was one of these people that waited for Rayman Legends only for it to delay seven months due to some asshole thinking to make it cross platform. That is messed up. I still need to get my hands on some games like Farcry 4, Child of Light and maybe Watch Dogs.

never buying a ubisoft game again. their games are not even good, lol. press "button" to perform "this" action presented to you on screen throughout the entire game. so easy my grandmother could complete the game. DRM thrown ontop of already existing DRM (uplay and steam). and now as of late, forcing any new purchases of any ubisoft game digitally for the PC to be done only on uplay, not on steam anymore. bahh, fuck this company. i will celebrate this by buying an EA game.

Even Child of Light was a bad launch as a lot of people reported huge game ending bugs and had game saves randomly disappearing on them.

well it's like EA. What did the EA CFO said some time ago?

"Customers are not our target group because Customers have Rights and inform themself about games. Consumers instead, they do not have Rights, they have only one duty, the duty to spend Money, all the time, over and over again. That's our Target group. Customers needs to be convinced, Consumers just needs to be manipulated."

fuck both EA and Ubisoft.

As I said a few times already, I disagree with their comment about PC Gamers being pirates, but stuff like this doesn't help.
