A Story about the American Civil War

1 post in this topic

There was a father, a mother, and a son who lived on a farm. The father and son never got along and never agreed upon anything.

One night, the father and son got into a huge argument, and the son ran away, his whereabouts unknown.

As the War drew closer to the father's home, he felt obligated to aid in it's defense, and joined the Confederate Army.

The brigade he was in was ordered to cut off an approaching Union Army, headed towards their local headquarters.

The Union Army was ambushed, and fighting went on for days. Finally, a cease fire broke out, both sides low on ammunition and will to go on. Each side stayed where they were, until one night, the father heard movement ahead of him.

It was dark and he could not see, so he fired into the night where he thought an enemy was.

He heard a loud yell, confirming his hit. However, the Union soldier was still alive, and the father could hear his rasping breath. Seeking to finish him off, he crawled towards the body.

The soldier was on his stomach, so the father turned him over. It was a gut wound.

The eyes of the father's son looked up to him. The instant each other recognized one another, the life fled from the son's eyes, leaving the father weeping uncontrollably.

In peace, sons lose their fathers. In war, fathers lose their sons.

Kinda random, but I liked writing it.
