Favorite Board/Tabletop games?

39 posts in this topic

Well since this Forum is empty, id figure id add something to it.

So I been looking into Tabletop games, so I figure just to ask a very simple question, what are some of your guys favorite board/tabletop games? Rather from child hood or from current day.

I personally always liked Strategy board games even though I never got to into them. I loved games like Battle Ship, Chest, Checkers, ect. Of course most of the Board and Table Top games id play are more for children, Id like to look for more adult ones.

I haven't played that many board games but I enjoyed playing Star Trek Fleet Captains, Mage Knight, Descent, and Descent 2nd Edition. There's a lot I want to try like Twilight Imperium, Conflict of Heroes, etc but I don't know anyone else where I live now. Card game wise I really liked Warhammer Invasion, Decipher's Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, and Fantasy Flight's newer Lord of the Rings. Would like to try Sentinels of the Multiverse, the Pathfinder one, and Android Netrunner sometime.

I did own some Warhammer 40,000 stuff but never really got a chance to play it, was more interested in Warhammer Fantasy but 40 was more popular where I lived.

I enjoy the old clasics like risk and chess but also stuff like catan, dominion, imperial, and paths of glory (good god that was a long ass game).

I did use to play warhammer 40k but its way too expensive and i didnt feel like taking out a mortgage to buy a decent sized army and the paints then have to paint them with my crappy skillz. The universe/lore is cool as hell though.

Wil Wheaton's tabletop youtube series is pretty cool and lets you see how games are played so you can tell if youd like it before you buy it

I want to amend my statement to include D&D even though it is pen and paper as well more than board. But still, loved doing stupid shit when I did play.

Do old strategy board games count?

Avalon Hill's Breakout: Normandy is still one of my favorites. Spent many hours of my youth playing Panzer Leader as well.

Happy memories.

@raven: Yes

@abedsbrother: yes

Tabletop is a liberated to what is consider a table top game. It ranges from card games to full blown miniatures.

@Chumbry: Yeah Will's Tabletop is what got me into playing table top games. It's good for people wanting to try new game or get information about a certain game. I honestly recommend people check it out. + Felicia Day :D

I personality LOVE 'Betrayal at House on the Hill', one of the many games I get together with the Wife and friends. So many different scenarios and outcomes makes is very re-playable. I still have yet to go through all the stories, which the b-rated monster stories are all pretty interesting, even more so when you see them play out on the board which will always be different. It's an all around fun game which I suggest to anyone that has friends to play it.

I have a pretty large collection of board games and have a regular Friday night group. (Luckily my wife has gotten into it and let me expand that collection) I always rate the games in 2 catagories all time favorites and newest favorites.

All Time

1) D&D

2) Diplomacy

3) Bang!

4) Descent

5) Catan

New Favorites

1) Shadows over Camelot (Anyone who likes Betrayal at House on the Hill but doesn't feel like horror one night should try this)

2) King of Tokoyo

3) Fluxx

4) Gloom

5) Killer Bunnies

Note: I only include games I actually own on this list.

Rune Wars is fun if you have the four hours or so it takes to play, same with Twilight Imperium.

All of the Attack Wing games (plus X-Wing) are good if you can keep your group from getting to metagamy, a few people building lists around exploits killed it for my local shop.

Eminent Domain is a deck-building game in the vein of Ascension with a space 4x game built on top of it, that's a lot of fun. Also, Ascension.

I love Stratego but I'm pretty terrible at it.

Settlers of Catan is my favorite by far. I challenge anyone to a match, anytime, anywhere.

I am a god at Scene It, even some of the specialized versions (e.g. Disney), so much so that I've been accused of going through the deck and DVD and memorizing all of the questions and answers. I have to play with a pretty brutal self-imposed handicap (can only move if I get the question right, can't get double features, can't move when I block an All Play while others can still move if they block me, have to win an All Play To Win and all three circles of Final Cut to win) to give most other players a fair chance at winning.

Recently started playing a Walking Dead board game that is pretty fun.

Call me boring and typical but Dungeons and dragons...if you mean a board game with figures strictly.. one I almost never got to play but always loved it when I could and wish there was MORE of... advanced heroquest.
