Should HD Remakes fix problems of the original game?

10 posts in this topic

Hey guys so got done playing Halo CE anniversary and it still had problems of the original well things that were problems for me like shield taking too long to charge, the Assault Rifle being inaccurate etc etc, anyways do you guys think that if you update a games graphics you should update or fix the gameplay as well. What's your opinion put it in the comment section below.

HD should just be that. A better looking version of the original that is ported to other platforms.

If they got rid of bugs and what not, cool. If not, that's fine.

What isn't acceptable is changing the game entirely or certain aspects of the game. Let my senpai, Demo, show an example.

Another thing, they toned down the fog greatly. Silent Hill fans will know that the fog is IMPORTANT to the atmosphere. Atmosphere is important to Silent Hill. Since the fog is lifted, the player can see the ugliness and awful looks of Silent Hill. Jpeg images as backgrounds, mysterious floating objects going no where, and of course ruining the atmosphere of mystery and dread (like the first time you enter the town and see a monster walking away from you. Originally, you could hardly see it. In this, you can see it plain as day). Not to mention cutscene bugs, where the game skips cutscenes by itself.

Of course, there are some exceptions. As for them, cross the bridge once people get there. But as a rule of thumb, HD remakes should just be that... A better looking version of the original, but still keeps everything as it was.

If it is simply upgrading the games graphics, turning it to HD or something, then no. But if it is going full out remake, it should be better then the original (endless if its paying homage to a beloved fan glitch). Fix glitches, balance issues, ect.

Should they fix actual bugs or things like framerate/graphical glitches/crashes, yes.

shield taking too long to charge, the Assault Rifle being inaccurate etc etc

Should they change how the game is supposed to work, no.

Good example is the changes made to Metro 2033 to the Redux edition.

They certainly didn't change the meat of the game itself but significant issues with the stealth mechanics that were Ironed out significantly in Last Light were applied to the Redux edition as well as the improved graphical overhaul.

Fix everything that is objectively a problem... Balance is not an objective problem.

One old small change on a remake that peeved me was in warcraft 2... The battle.net version got rid of the lumber bug, which was more of a trick based on a bug that anyone could use every time with no random elements or luck or computer specs being a factor.

If by problems you mean bugfixes then yes, I'd also have no issue with control changes for better optimization where applicable but don't think it's right to mess with game mechanics.  The fundamental design of the gameplay should be authentic.

Pretty sure nobody is arguing otherwise but im still pissed about it... The final fantasy 1 remake on the gba was complete rubbish. Ff1s bestfeature was its actual challenge, and on the remake they butchered the difficulty HARD, leaving no option for the original difficulty, or even mentioning they neutered it in the list of features.

An HD remake should just be that, an HD remake. They don't need to reinvent the wheel, just make the wheel make spiffy and round it out. I think that the only time they change anything thing about the gameplay is to fix a game breaking bug or something along those lines.
