If we are able to organize, what kind of game should we start with? If we intend to bring in fresh faces and learn together about the process as a whole, I'd think that something simple would be a nice place to start and from there make manageable goals and see what happens from there. By starting simple, we can also look back and make learning development easier if more people decide they'd like to join in.

What do you think?

"I'd think that something simple would be a nice place to start and from there make manageable goals"

From a programming POV I believe that a point & click, puzzle or platformer game would be the most simple. Even more simple would be one of those console adventure games in which you type the actions that you want the player to perform.

If RPG maker is used it should be simple to make a RPG too.

Please no MMO, a MMO is essentially as hard as it gets. Edit: and costs a lot to maintain.

I have dabbled in RPG maker before back in high school. It was very easy to get into though I preferred the version in which they showed the sprites side ways in battle actually performing the motions of the attacks as compared to the picture of the enemies and animation of attacks. But if anything I do know that more advanced mechanics can be worked into RPG maker beyond what is simply laid out to whom ever uses it.

For platforming I have seen IG Maker also shown on the RPG Maker web page of which also mentions it as a use for Action RPG's and 2d Shooters.

It all depends on what people are going to play.

I'm a big fan of Portal however I do not think the community is as tight as CS:GO's.

The other thing is hard to code when you don't know how to code.

I don't pay attention to games that stay loyal to their genre that much.

I have a list of RTS hybrids that I find interesting myself:

Ghost Master (kinda like sims, but you're the ghosts)

Sacrifice (you play as a wizard in 3rd person)

Impossible Creatures (this game's gimmick is you make your own armies)

Giants Citizens Kabuto (the mother of asymmetrical multiplayer)

Warlords Battlecry (rts with rpg leveling elements)

They are all interesting takes on the RTS genre.

'We' need something like this.
