I love the new Civ V mods, especially the "revolution" mod series (with cultural diffusion).

Ghandi is horrible. Despite what he was in real life he is quite the opposite in Civ 5.

Anyways...

What do you think of Civ IV vs Civ V guys?

I always missed the deeper diplomacy and the vassal states as well as the above mentioned cultural revolutions (where a city changes to another nation) in Civ 5.

I really hope they include that in another addon/expansion or at least in the next Civilization.

Some of them can be obtained through mods sure, but it's not the ideal solution, especially because mods don't work in multiplayer.

CIV 5 is very good, I liked it a lot, the Civ series has been one of the best franchises of all the strategy genre!! I hope there were more games like that!!

Oh Civilization V. Even though you're simple, you're my favourite.

Love using real world maps, it just adds to it.

Cultural Revolutions are included in BNW, although they aren't common.

I found at least the leaders of CIV IV to be more original in my opinion.

And well, there's mods for vassal states and such, cultural revolutions are added in BNW.

I can link you to the workshop page for the mod with CIV IV diplomatic features, since that's what it's called.

Cultural Revolutions are included in BNW, although they aren't common.

If you're the first with an ideology (Preferably freedom) and have high happiness and GPT. As well as a few perks, then it happens a few times late game.

I had a game as Venice where I got Songhai's second largest city, and a few cities from Washington (Who went with autocracy, who knew?) via. a few cultural revolutions.

Ive played all the CIV games except the very first one. Ive enjoyed them all through the years. Personally though when 4 came, I bought and played it, my interest dropped a little and started to pull away from the franchise and when brave new world came out for 5, I decided to try it and I really got back into it. I'm actually looking forward to the next installment of the series in the next few years.

Yeah.

If there is one franchise that has never really disappointed me (on a long term view), it's Civilization.

Since this is the official thread for stories and such here is mine from the old thread :

I'm playing as The Celts right now, they're pretty good for rapid religion. Although I screwed up my relations with my 2 closest neighbors Polynesia and the Songhais, I had to kill everyone on my continent including those two plus Egypt. Now I own a entire fracking  continent! It's really easy now because the only way for me to win is to dominate the other continent with the Swedish, the Dutch, the Roman and the Danish living on it. Fortunately for me Egypt and Polynesia were going for a culture Victory and now I own pretty much all the Wonders  :)

Move on to much later in the game (And apparently to a story; I just couldn't stop, sorry  :) )--> All my cities had built all they could and there was only one thing left for me to do , kill everyone else. During my peaceful period I had to entertain myself with a little game with the other continent. Firstly I managed to make Rome the enemy of the world, poor Caesar, he had to step down. Then I just had to sit back and watch as Swedish and Danish fought for the ruins that was the Roman empire. Right as they were passing Rome back and fourth I made  my entrance, three artillery sitting on the northern border of Sweden, two Frigate and an Ironclad at sea, and finally two Great war infantry coming in form the west. Their General abandoned the city like the coward he was, their men were shitting in their pants as we were marching into town, Stockholm had fallen. Amsterdam and Copenhagen were the only ones left, but as I passed my attention from the crying Swedish to the fierce dutch, i noticed they had been chased off their homeland, retreating to their last city.

Thus our road to victory was as clear as day. One city, one man, one simple job to do to claim victory. We sailed to Copenhagen in a haste, commands in hand, ready to deliver the finishing blow to the hardest game I had ever attempted. The city was for the taking, no one home, or so it looked like. I landed with my artillery only to discover all their War Infantry waiting at my feet to push me back from where I came. My men were falling like flies, as I watched helpless, the Battleships were not going to be there until next year. They had to go back in the water, but then the planes arrived. Three birds from hell made fire rain over the ships, they couldn't move; it was too late... We had to retreat. There was no way just one Frigate and an Ironclad could takeover Copenhagen. At least not without the Battleships. As they came in, we could hear it, we could hear the songs of the kingdom, the music of victory. As the blood rushed through our veins, four fully equipped war machines sailed across the ocean separating us, they anchored just according to plan. As we fired, the sound of the burning city made us cried with tears of joy, knowing that after this would be over, we could go home to our wives, to our kids. We couldn't stop until we knew in our hearts that this would suffice for us to come in and win. Their were no more sounds, we had ran out of ammo. The sun was going down as we approached. The lonesome Ironclad going in for the final blow, the decisive moment...

I don't really understand why threads are being policed by OP and redirected to this one vague and directionless thread.

But I guess if this is the place to discuss the game, then...

Civ V was actually the first game that got me way into this generation of PC games. It kind of forced me to get a better PC and from then on I sold my other consoles and stuck strictly to PC, so it has a special place in my heart. I was a little disappointed with G&K, I felt like it didn't really do enough. BNW, on the other hand, was gat dang incredible. I've been having so much fun with the wold congress. My only gripe with the game is tourism, which is really just kind of like a time victory by a different name (if you're playing the right civ) I was going for a science victory with Morocco in one game, when i lost track of my tourism. I didn't even make it to my first SS part.

To add my favourite story:

My first victory on a harder difficulty than normal (With mods) was Venice.

I was stuck between three city states, Genoa (Genova), another city and Zurich.

In the early years I was lacking in GPT. and military-strength. I only had a galley as my navy, and a few soldiers for protection. However my relationships with the city states were going well, and I built wonders like crazy. After turn 100 I began becoming important, with a stronger army and control over three cities.

However I had some enemies, and those enemies were hiding in the shadows.

Time went by, I got the Venetian Galley, I got new soldiers, I had almost all European City states bought out. And the rest on good relations.

Our people were happy, they were leaders in science, culture and soon the most powerful nation on this side of the Atlantic.

The UN was founded, and then...

The Colombian Exchange.

I didn't expect good relations, and to be frank in the start, after the Aztecs couldn't stop pissing me off (And me conquering the Celtic capital since they denounced me because of religion) I got in the first global war in the game. I only conquered one city before they surrendered.

I was now on constant tension with the Americas, the Iroquois were plotting against me, and pissed off, that we had a powerful position in the Caribbean. They kept ruling down our suggestions in the UN. Soon ideologies came in to play, and as the second player on the world scene they got autocracy, we were the first getting freedom.

We were now two civs, fighting ideology.

The world was in turmoil, socialism, liberalism and fascism were fighting against each other on a cultural warfare. However because we were building wonders early on earned me points on this. We produced the most tourism, and in the end we got the Songhai's second largest city, and got a city from the Iroquois.

We were nearing world peace after that, with most nations changing to freedom, trade was strong and caravans roamed safely.

After a while the game was nearing end, we made the first nuclear bomb (The Venetian Project) and built three ICBMS before ruling to ban ICBMS.

World peace was now, my choice.

I was the most powerful civilization, everyone basked in my dust.

In the end, I had the upper-hand, then game ended with me going to space.

After we reached Alpha Centuri, I nuked the Iroquois capital, and made a large scale invasion of their land.

The rest, well, it's for you to countinue.

If nothing but for the purpose of bumping the thread,I just finished my first game of Civ 5.......And it was glorius!

The game was on a huge map and took me 19 hours and over 400 turns to complete.

I played the game as Bismarck and on Warlord difficulty (Wanted to get a firm grip on the game before atempting on higher difficulties).Took the win by a science victory.Still cant believe I missed out on this game when it was released.

As of now starting a new game as Alexander and paitently wating for the steam winter sale to pick up the dlc.

I find the game challenging as hell on anything higher than the 3rd difficultly setting, i just like playing on easy, to either wage war, or have a easy stride to tech victory, it is a bit silly thou when you have tanks and they still have bowmen lol - Civ 5 is a great game, wish i had more time to play it, Dam work! lol

I finally managed to win a game at King difficulty! It was hard at first but with a powerful army and some cunning diplomatic skills the world was ours.

Now this may seem out of context, but bear over with me.

I just made a suggestion for CIV V to be considered a official supported game.

If all CIV fans could just chip in with their opinion, that'd be great.
