PSA: About Project Ascension...

This post has been made to let you know about a recent controversy on the Steam platform, and one of the responses to it.

Over the last few days, there has been controversy over Steam's decision to monetize mods for Skyrim.  There is speculation that this behavior might be applied to mods of all games, which might affect the level of creativity and direction of the modding scene.

In response to this, a certain redditor has been working on an open-source gaming platform, here is a mock-up of it:

It's still a WIP, and if you would like to help, you could head over to the relevant subreddit:

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it's really feasible?

I can see arguments for both sides. I think what makes or breaks this argument is who gets the money. If Valve decided to take the money then, I consider that a big no no. They may have created the game, but not put forth the effort of creating the extra content. If it went to the developer, I still wouldn't bee too much of a fan of the charge, but at least the modder is rewarded for their efforts. I doubt the community would stand for any of it though. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
