Need some advice here, pls fellow healers!

9 posts in this topic

Hey there guys,

I am thinking of joining this game soon next month, but I need some advice before that. Can you help with a few words?

First, I want to know if there is anything in the Collector's edition which I might need. What does it actually give?

Secondly, is there an Angry Army guild? On which server is your "headquarters"?

Last, give me a tip of a good way to master a Healer role (White Mage/Scholar). I heard healing in general MMORPGs is the hardest role in the 3 (Tank, DPS and Healer/Support). I play as DPS Sourcerer/Wizard in every other MMO, however now I really have no choice, but to choose a healer. I know i will probably be the one responsible a in dungeon for parties, which is nice, and at the same time scary (if we get wiped, then it all goes to me). I really need advice on this...

Good day, Sky.  Mastering any role or class takes practice and a little bit of confidence in ones skill.  Healing isn't all that scary when you come with the mindset of, "I get to decide who lives or dies." ;)   Sure the Tank does their thing and the DPS pew pews, but you get to set the tone.  Don't get me wrong, you shouldn't have to go, I hate this guy and let them die on purpose but you do hold that kind of power.  Anywho, healing isn't very hard.. until maybe in the end game.  :P

As for tips... Well, I'm not that much of a healer compared to others in the guild.  One person comes to mind who can probably give you some good ones, but Overhealing is one you should probably try to avoid.  While it is nice to keep your party at 100% during fights, i.e. Boss fights, but if you are constantly trying to heal when your party has a few scratches, then you'll find yourself out of MP (Mana) sooner.  Knowing when to use your buffs to improve your heals or speed up your cast time is another.  There is always a time and a place for such spells which you'll learn for yourself as you progress in the game as a healer.

Note: These kind of tips doesn't hold 100% true until you get into the late game, such as raids and whatnot.  But it is something to keep in mind.

As for your other questions, starting with the Collector's Edition.  It give's two Mounts, a Helmet that gives 10% increased EXP until a certain level, a minion, bardings for your Chocobo and a few other things.  I'll leave a link at the bottom that has the list of items.  Personally, I don't think it's something you need.  There are a few things in this edition that I want but I don't think I will spend the extra money on it.

Is there an AJSA Guild?  Yes, there is.  We can be found on the Jenova Server on the Aether Data Center.  Our Guild isn't extremely active, but there are plans for a revival kind of event once Heavensward releases and we're always looking for members to hop along and hug all the critters that roams Eorzea.

If there is any other questions or need some clarification on anything, go a head and post it and we'll try to answer it to the best of our abilities.  See you around.

Thanks a lot for the reply. You kinda relieved me there, cuz this guy on YouTube with his guide to healing was honest and right even though it was hard to accept his conclution, since that in fact happens a lot around MMOs - the healers sometimes get all the blame there is when something goes wrong, at least he actually made it sound like something usual in FFXIV. Idk if that's true, but that's the reason why I am looking for a guild.

Speaking of guilds, ill surely look for it. And when does that patch coming out?

Yeah, it got me all worried when I saw that many skills ...

Anyways, if we see each other, it will probably be in-game in few weeks. Have fun!

For healing it can vary from boss to boss, hots are good for just healing the scratches people get, stoneskin and the sch barriers are good for bosses which have a big hitting skill such as in chrysalis. cd's generally have a specific time in each fight to be used (dps checks such as ifrit nails or titan's heart for example). Outside of very specific incidents, limit breaking is left to the dps so you won't have to worry about that.

when the party wipes in the earlier dungeons, it can tend to be the healer's fault unless hate is running rampant and everyone is tanking since even a blm can pick up tanking for a bit If necessary (happened in haukke way too many times), overpulls aside. In the raids in the crystal tower, tanks fighting over who is main tank and letting the adds run amok (ex. wolfbanes on Cerberus) tends to be a good cause of wipes.

Could answer more specific questions if you have some, just drop a message in game or something. I don't mind teaching people the dungeons and fights I've actually done (in other words non-coil stuff). If I might use wow as a reference, think of whms like druid healing and sch's like disc priests with a pet.

Most of the CE stuff is just cosmetic or physical goodies, you don't need to buy anything beyond the basics.

ps. you can't queue as a healer as a sch until you actually get the job at lvl 30, arcanist can only be dps (nothing stopping you from helping the healer when necessary though.

hq is goblet ward 3 house 60 on the jenova server (southwest subdivision of uldah housing area), there's usually somebody around there if anyone is on.

Heavensward comes out on the 23rd June. I believe the early access date for people who pre order is 18th June. (Damn my work I have to go out of town on the 18th and 19th)

This video describes the additions of the new classes amongst other stuff for the expansion. IT's form Playstation Access but the details will be the same.

FYI I plan to try levelling the new healer class at some point, though the video above makes it sound like a very tactical healing class.
