So, the Attack on Titan Movie...

10 posts in this topic

Is anyone even looking forward to it anymore?

When it was first announced I was all intrigued.

I had watched the whole anime, and I was curious how they would do a live action adaptation of it!

Then I saw that they were focusing on Mikasa and Jeager's relationship.... and possible maybe romance?

And I think "Oh yeah of course! When you have a world where giant titans have pushed humanity back to the brink of extinction where everyday is a fight and there's stories a plenty.... you want to focus on a forced romance. No no no that is totally the most interesting part of the whole thing of course! NO REALLY! YEAH! IT'S SO FREGIN IMPORTANT!"

Then suddenly they're like "Oh hey you know Levi? The really awesome character? Yeah he won't be in it.... because his name is akward to make Japanese."

It's like...

"Hey guys! We have this anime that could be an awesome movie! Let's focus on the people fighting back against the monsters, and actually gaining ground in an epic struggle!"

And then he got punched in the gut, knocked out, and he was never found.

That's Hollywood in a nutshell.  Ever since Titanic became a big hit they have tried again and again to make the same formula of a romance set on the backdrop of something much bigger and more interesting that should be the focus because it's what they think people wan't to see.  Pearl Harbour, Enemy at the gates, The Matrix Trilogy, Moulin Rouge, James Cameron's Avatar...  the list go's on especially when it comes to ruining/ripping off Japanesse art (cough!.... The Hunger Games.... cough!).

Of course there are legitimately good romance films and I'm fine with romantic subplots in other genre's but for the majority of stories definitely including this one it should never be the primary focus.

In my experience, Live Action Adaptations of Anime is usually horrible. I didn't even know about the Attack On Titan one, Kind of interested but

from what it sounds like from your description... Bleh. I don't even Acknowledge Eren/Mikasa's relationship. I don't care about the thought of Matching my favourite character with my least favourite. (Mikasa being favourite, Eren least favourite.)

And really, Levi not being in it is almost enough to make me forget about the entire thing. Mikasa and Levi are both my favourite characters and I don't really care about most of the other characters, tbh. Eren's an annoying piss-ant and most of the other characters aren't memorable or died too early.

Levi not being in it simply because his name is hard to make Japanese is enough to piss me off right from the get-go. Just call him LEVI, holy shit!

Anyways, I won't lose any sleep over it, though. I might watch it once, I don't know.

After seeing Tekken on KOF films etc i wouldnt trust this one anyway.  Everytime i watch the anime all i would ever be reminded of is the god awful live action film and it would be ruined forever.

Im not taking that chance even if thi film ever comes out (which i doubt) id never watch it.

I'll probably watch it, because I enjoyed the anime, but I have heard some negative things about the movie. I'll just have to see it for myself, I guess.

I don't understand the need to make live action movies out of successful anime.

Why not just make an anime movie? I know they've done that for some, but it just doesn't make sense why they have to change it for the big screen.

It's like if they took a popular american tv show and made an anime movie for it. Wouldn't make much sense, stick to the original content form :P
