GTA V. I haven't even played it yet, since I don't own a console, but I can already tell I'd enjoy it a whole lot more. The online mode seems a whole lot better, and while I don't know much about the storyline (Don't want to spoil it), I can tell the gameplay is really fun. GTA IV was... I don't know. It didn't feel all that amazing to me. I also hated the story. Greatly.

The one thing i hate about GTA IV is the fact that no matter how hard you try to dress Niko he still looks like a bum :D and i guess that's why i kinda don't like it :D

GTA V, definitely. IV had way less content and the storyline was more bland. I like how V expanded to 3 characters and taken different approaches to missions - that was present in IV but it was not as large as in V.

I didn't like Nico Bellic in GTA IV. Despite the fact the DLC was good, I never bothered getting it and playing it. It is because of GTA IV, I was planning NOT to get GTA V. Am I glad that in the end I did. GTA V is far better then GTA IV.

The 3 character swap in GTA V is real refreshing and well executed. And to top it off we can play in LS online with friends. Also the heist missions are sweet, but to bad there weren't a ton of them to do :P I'm really curious 2 see how it will turn out online.

I would have to say that story-wise and character-wise, I prefer GTA IV.

Niko is a realistic and gritty character, and despite his borderline psychopathy he still plays straightman to a more insane world. The plot is driven around the hardships of his adjusting to American life using his criminal expertise to help his cousin make a name for himself, while simultaneously searching for closure for a despicable betrayal that has been haunting him for 10 years.

In GTA V, I really find that I don't like any of the main protagonists. Franklin is possibly the most likable character of the three, but I feel he's just "token black man". He's not even that entertaining, Lamar steals Franklin's spotlight more often than not while Franklin is a bit bland and whiny to me. Michael is more relatable than the others I think, because I feel sorry for him when I see how his family views and treats him despite his efforts. That being said, his efforts aren't 100% sincere and more for his own peace of mind than for his family's happiness. He's also a liar and a hypocrite. Trevor may be a psychopath who definitely shouldn't have known the truth about Michael's "death", but at the same time Michael has done a lot of underhanded things like take advantage of Franklin's ambitions and treated his family like crap at times. Trevor is the most charismatic of the three characters because he's just charming. He has a strange amount of depth for someone who's supposed to personify the typical cathartic GTA player, and at times he's even wiser and more earnest than Michael. Though obviously he's so far off the handle that he can't be related to that well, and he is downright scary if you think about it.

GTA IV also had significantly more missions than GTA V. V has about 69 main missions and IV has 94. V makes up for its length by having more awesome side-missions than IV, but I still felt the main story was a bit lacking.

If I added in GTA Online to the mix, GTA V is overall better than GTA IV. But as a singleplayer experience, I think IV is superior.

GTA V, It is also the second GTA I have finished completely (First one was Chinatown). Had GTA IV but sold it, didn't liked it as I liked GTA V.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is definitly the best between the two. You see, GTA IV was more of a downgrade to the franchise compared to San Andreas. But now, GTA V steps up the bar with awesome and new content. GTA V is a definitive improvement to the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Honestly, I'd have to say GTAV. It's the only GTA out of the entire series I haven't used cheats to complete! :D

GTA V, without a shadow of a doubt. I have to mention, by the way, a character does not have to be likable to well..be good. Joel, from The Last of Us, is a horrible, unlikable human being but one of the best written characters period.

The game had a way better story, the gameplay was better in all aspects, be it driving or shooting, the atmosphere didn't try to be all dark and gloomy like IV, which honestly failed to do so, and the game had alot more interesting side quests, activities and of course online mode, to participate in.

Definitely like GTA V over IV because I always enjoy looking at what Rockstar has to offer in terms of parody at society during the time of development. Storywise, IV was much better than V, especially since I was all hyped up for some heists, only to realize there was a grand total of about five in the whole game. Really sucked. Also didn't really enjoy Online however, if only because of the constant grinding to get better apartments, cars, or weapons. Would've been better in my opinion to have some apartments worth around 30k or something, so you didn't have to constantly have contacts annoying you with the details about not having a place to stay.

30K is chump change online, so i'm not sure how that would have worked, but GTAO is essentially a PvP MMO, while grinding can get a bit tedious, it is just fun to mess around in the world and is admittedly very satisfying when you finally get that Cheetah you've been saving up for or a new apartment.

GTA 5, by a very wide margin.

First, in terms of storyline - GTA 5 doesn't make the mistake of trying to inject too much pathos into the game. GTA has suffered (IMO) since 3 because it tends to take itself too seriously.

Second, in terms of focus - GTA 5's gameplay is largely about stealing shit and making huge amounts of money. Though I thought it would have been better to include more heist opportunities and repeatable thefts, this works much better.

Third, in terms of gameplay - GTA 4 eventually made me quit (and nearly snap the disk) because of its broken checkpoint system. Having to drive for 10 minutes across town every time you lose a firefight is damned asinine, unforgivable for the time it came out. Being able to skip sections that you find impossible is another plus (though I think I only used that on the downhill bike race). The cabs also make getting around town much simpler then GTA 4.

Fourth, I hate bowling.

I like them both for different reasons. I hope certain aspects of each game can be combined for GTA VI someday.

GTA V. While I enjoyed the story of GTA IV, the multiplayer leaves much to be desired, at least for me personally. The fact that there's essentially nothing to do in free-mode but kill other people, and since I find that barely anyone plays the actual missions, I got bored of it really quick.
