It's bloody awesome that they finally have managed to get it on GOG.

The second game is really good and i can't imagine that the first will be too bad

Nice to see that they also fixed some bugs and added mouse support for the game.

As someone who has never used GOG, is it a service like Steam? Or some other format?

You buy a game and it is added to the library that your site profile has. You can then download the game and whatever extra files might be included (manual, art, soundtrack, etc). There is no DRM so the games can be installed and played whenever you want online or offline. They did recently release a client, kind of like Steams/Origin/etc, that allows you to buy games off of it and install the games you own from it, as well as add friends and follow chats you are in.

It's the best way to get older games that services such as steam isn't even selling. For example The original Heroes of Might and magic 1.

They also have a selection of newer games as alot of people would rather buy the games with no DRM attached.

As as katarn mentioned one of the best features is the lack of DRM.

I never had a chance to play ether titles. Looking forward to blind playthroughs! Odd thing is a friend was describing the villain from the series and the entire character design is really impressive for an older title. Though I should not expect any less from the creators of BioShock.

It is exactly like Steam in that it is a downloading platform for games.  However, it is both better and worse than Steam.  It is better in that you usually get a bunch of extra goodies in the form of a soundtrack, wallpapers, or even comics or patterns that you can print out, cut out, and fold to create little paper toys for your desk.  Oh, and it is DRM free and older games are said to run better on GOG than Steam.  However it is worse than Steam in that its library is significantly smaller and what it does have tends to focus on older games.

Oh, and let's not forget everybody, if you buy $5 worth of games during the current GOG sale you get System Shock 2 for free!
