WE WIN

*Aggressively waves AJSA battle standard*

To be fair to Squeenix, they've actually taken it pretty well and even joked about it.

Preordering or getting the day one edition now apparently will get you ALL of that stuff they were sectioning off with Augment your Pre-order. I still wouldn't do it, though, if any game has the pre-order hyped like this it should not be trusted.

At least they learned from Konami. At least they wouldnt have fired Kojima. Or cancelled Silent Hill. Or shift to mobile games.

It was something that they experimented with that obviously didn't work.  Now it's back to the "old" pre-order/buy day one and get some extra shit system, which I don't really take issue with but I can see why some do.

Hopefully the analysts are right and this was just an experiment to propagate a dying pre-order culture, and the pre-order and day 1 bonus system will vanish completely soon.

Wonder how many people actually pre-ordered when the "Augment Your Crap" was still on.

Pre-order game is stupid in general.... specially in the digital age. In the old time, people will pre-order because some new hot games will sold out on launch day or even at the first couple shipment from the game stores. But digital version will never run out of inventory, so nowadays pre-order will enable to "own" something that is already in the game... this is "money well spend"! <_<

I think pre-orders have their uses. I'm not to upset over Fallout 4's pre-ordering- they don't really offer you anything for pre-ordering, you can just do it if you want to have that done ahead of time (Like me).

Games that just offer some cosmetic stuff or some little trinket that isn't useful in-game for pre-orders are fine. Games that offer entire new missions, guns, monsters, ectera, (Looking at you, Evolve, Watch Dogs, and Call of Duty!) those are corrupt as they're taking content from the game and holding it ransom.

That's my opinion on the matter, anyway.

How many times did this actually happen?

Even on the games that have been hyped up to the Nth degree there has still been copies available that you can just walk in and buy.

What makes it even more amusing is that in the small print of nearly every pre-order it specifically states that 'This does not guarantee you a copy on release day' or words to that effect.

Obviously not enough to outweigh the complaints. Square-Enix must have gotten enough backlash that they were worried about pre-orders tanking altogether.

Jim's new video is partially about this

I had it happen a few times. It's not something that would often happen to well known hyped AAA releases where every game store and places like Target/Wal-Mart/etc are going to be carrying copies, it happened more for more less known titles where the store might only get in 1 or 2 copies or none at all if no one preordered it.
