Indie Go Go Page

Lab Zero Games, the developer of Skullgirls, is creating an all-new RPG with 505 Games!

Playable Prototype Available

 Overview

Indivisible is a side-scrolling RPG in the vein of Valkyrie Profile, spanning a huge fantasy world inspired by our own world’s various cultures and mythologies.

Players will navigate beautiful environments using a variety of different traversal abilities, and engage monsters in fast-paced combat.

Ajna

Meet Indivisible’s protagonist, Ajna.

mzod29ugunr8uef6g3jr.png

A good-natured tomboy with a rebellious streak, Ajna was raised by her father on the outskirts of their rural town. Her father raised her to be fair-minded and tough, and trained her in martial arts so that she might defend their home.

ne633fsh1l8ab2rmecgd.png

When their town is attacked by local warlords, Ajna discovers a mysterious power - the power to absorb certain individuals into her being. Furthermore, fusing with these “Incarnations” will not only allow her to summon them into battle, but also grant Ajna new weapons and abilities.

Determined to confront the warlords and find out more about these strange new abilities, Ajna sets out on a globe-spanning quest that will reveal her true nature and much more.

Reminds me of Valkyrie Profile with the gameplay.

frankly I have mixed feelings...I was one of the last people who isn't a blind fanboy in either catagory...who could accept 3d games over 2d... one of the defining '3d CAN pawn 2d' examples IMO however is valkyrie profile 2... Ignore the game for the story and balance and whatnot... just focus on the difference between their core play in 2d and 3d. 2 had everything 1 had in gameplay, and added to it in good ways with bodypart targeting, aoe, etc. I have no issues with this game personally, but I'm frankly sad to see nothing was ever done after valkyrie profile 2 when it's so effing godly, and have seen several games emulating the first game...Which is still a darn fine game but was one of the few times I think the move to 3d was nothing but a plus.

Another special treat we wanted to share with you is another Incarnation introduction video! This time it's Dhar:

This one was narrated by the inimitable Kai Kennedy, whom you may know as the voice of Beowulf in Skullgirls.

Also, for those that didn't tune into Richard's cleanup stream last week and are curious to see the single frame of a hypothetical ledge-standing animation for Ajna, here's the finished frame:

somfemwl1fzvsibj0cyc.png

This is a good example of the kind of non-critical animations we didn't have time to make for the prototype. As you well know, the prototype was made to give people a sense of what the gameplay in Indivisible would be like, and we had to sacrifice some of the otherwise unnecessary animations to finish in the time frame we were given.

But if Indivisible gets funded you can count on these kinds of contextual animations making their way into the game.

---

Hey, backers! Hope you've had a great weekend! This update is STACKED, so pull up a comfy chair.

The first piece of news is that the prototype will be coming out on PS4 in North America this Tuesday, November 3rd! You'll be able to download it for free on PSN when the PlayStation Store gets updated sometime that day. The EU version is in testing at Sony and we hope to have a release date for that soon.

The very day after that, on Wednesday, November 4th at 3:00 PM PST, the Lab Zero team will be hosting an AMA on Reddit! Come ask the team your burning questions.

Perhaps you've been waiting patiently for the other reason for this update: the new Incarnation reveal for the campaign blasting past 550k! Here she is:

Toko (十子)

gv9f9d3tusikdxfa2lne.png

Toko is one of the only surviving Resolute in Yashima, forced into hiding after a failed rebellion. Of her nine siblings, she is the only one who survived the resulting massacre. Though almost unbearable, she views these trials as a test of faith, and they serve only to strengthen her belief.

To the Resolute, Kala's appearance marks the beginning of the end of days, and thus the beginning of their task to save as many unenlightened souls as possible before the final judgement.

Blessed with great skill and seemingly divine strength of will, Toko vows to vanquish the evils of this land. Her faith, like her blade, is straight and true, unwavering in its conviction. Learning more about the true source of her power, however, will put her devotion to the ultimate test.

Yet another character got the special treatment with this Phoebe introduction video:

If you can believe it, this one is also narrated by the illustrious Mike Z.

There are quite a few Incarnations to keep track of now, so we've gathered them up into one easy-to-find place: labzerogames.com/indiv-incarnations

We have an awesome announcement coming up that will coincide with the release of the prototype on Tuesday, so stay tuned! This ain't over yet!

Let me guess, it reminds you of the rhino palatine skin, right?

Jokes aside, this game looks certainly interesting, and they just released the prototype to the sony us psn store (and are awaiting release for european stores too), so if you have a ps4, download the prototype (it's free and maybe a couple of hundred megs big) and see if it is for you... well, of course pc players could already download and enjoy it, but that's beside the point. It's a great thing for ps4 players, and hopefully helps lab zero reeling in the roughly million they still need.

No, because it is the lovechild of this

We passed 600k!!! There really are no words to properly express how grateful we are for your support in getting us this far. We are in it to win it, and we're glad you're here with us!

A couple of reminders in case you missed them in the last update:

  • The prototype is now available on PS4 for North American PSN! EU PSN should be approved for release soon. We'll let you know.
  • Lab Zero Games will be holding an AMA on Reddit in /r/IAmA today, November 4th, at 3:00PM Pacific / 6:00PM Eastern. It's been approved with the lovely mods over there and it's all set to be a blast!

The exciting announcement we alluded to in a previous update is this:

Indivisible will feature a fantastic lineup of guest characters! And yes, all of them will be playable. Here's the list we've announced:

  • Annie from Skullgirls
  • Calibretto from Battle Chasers
  • The Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter
  • Juan from Guacamelee
  • Lea from Curses N' Chaos
  • Shovel Knight from Shovel Knight
  • Zackasaurus from Super Time Force Ultra

We will adapt each character to the Indivisible's art style, and incorporate their abilities and personalities into the game's distinctive battle system.

Watch for updates showing off the visual design of each of these characters in the coming days!

A big THANK YOU to the wonderful folks at Autumn, Airship Syndicate, Heart Machine, DrinkBox, Tribute, Yacht Club and Capybara for believing in Lab Zero and giving us these awesome opportunities!

And don't start thinking we've forgotten about our 50k milestones! Here is the next Incarnation:

George

pzcoi8xnaexqdrxvci5r.png

George is a dragon slayer of the highest prestige. As a special class of soldier from the Iron Kingdom, it is his duty to travel through the regions of the empire and quell any troublesome monsters or demons. His lance Scalesbane, crafted along with his chainmail from remnants of his first kill, has proven quite effective in his battles against unholy creatures.

The Iron Kingdom is rapidly growing through aggressive campaigns of conquest, but George cares not for their policies or politics. His authority extends to the borders of the empire, yet he knows that greater evils lurk in every corner of the world.

Finally, yet another Incarnation got the intro video treatment. We proudly reintroduce you to Narssus:

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support. Now go forth and tell your friends about the good news!

Hope you're having a great weekend, backers!

We are simply blown away by the pace you've been setting. We went straight past 700k last night and are at nearly 725k as we write this...

Without further ado, here is the next Incarnation:

~ Antoine ~

wau72by1ypye0x3or3we.png

The adopted son of a prominent Iron Kingdom nobleman, growing up among the upper class of the capital hasn't left Antoine curious about his origins. His skill with a blade and knack for diplomacy made him an ideal candidate for ambassadorship, and he's found himself well suited for the role.

Despite his best efforts, some areas of the empire's expanding domain have proven uncooperative. Unrest is growing, and rumors of a pending revolt led by a rising underclass leader have made the Iron Kingdom nervous enough to dispatch Antoine to speak with them personally. But unlike his previous diplomatic assignments, this upcoming meeting fills him with unease...

And yet another Incarnation gets the video intro treatment. This time it's Yan!

We'll have another update for you soon, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, keep spreading the word about the campaign!

---

Hey, backers! We're right on the cusp of hitting 700k and revealing another Incarnation, but we couldn't wait to let you know about a couple of exciting things before that.

First, we received confirmation from Sony EU that the prototype will be available for download on EU PSN for PS4 on November 10th!! Ahh, more Indivisible goodness for the world to enjoy. Be sure to tell your friends to try it out and to support the campaign if they enjoy it!
If you're in North America, the prototype is already available on PS4!

Next, here's the next guest character for the game, adapted to Indivisible's overall art style:
Juan, from Guacamelee

v5k7ipifagnkmus63ut0.png

Guacamelee is an incredibly fun exploratory platformer by the wonderful folks at DrinkBox Studios. We're honored to have the opportunity to bring Juan into the world of Indivisible to make things a little more caliente!

Stay tuned for more updates soon!

---

Wow, backers! We're now well over 650k, and more than 10,000 backers total. That absolutely blows us away!

Let's dive right in. We're happy to introduce you to the next Incarnation:

~ Baozhai of the Black Jade ~

de08bxjxiatocrf1npq5.png

A true demon of the sea, Baozhai of the Black Jade and her armada are feared and despised by the naval fleets of both the Iron Kingdom and the Jade Dynasty. Though said to be a crude, ruthless pirate, she calls herself an entrepreneur. For years her crews have routinely attacked illicit Soma shipping routes and blockaded ports involved with the Soma drug trade. Many believe she simply steals for her own gain, yet rumors of a more humanitarian motive persist.

Neither empire have yet been able to hinder her, but the sea can be a cruel mistress indeed. A recent encounter with a massive sea monster decimated her forces and destroyed many of their vessels. Land-locked but not deterred, Baozhai is determined to rebuild a new crew and head back out to sea.

By now we're sure you've heard that Indivisible will feature quite a few guest characters. Here's the scoop on our first guest character, through the lens of Indivisible:

Shovel Knight, from Shovel Knight
fvudomckwsjx2ynkfx2j.png

If you haven't played the fantastic Shovel Knight from Yacht Club Games, you really owe it to yourself to check it out. We think you'd dig it.

We'll be unearthing even more guest character artwork in the coming days, so keep an eye out for that!

We hope you were able to join us for the AMA we held on Reddit yesterday. The whole team joined in to answer all sorts of questions about Indivisible, Skullgirls, and various aspects of game development and design. But if you missed it, fret not! You can still read the whole thread here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3rk1x9/were_lab_zero_games_makers_of_skullgirls_ama/?sort=top

Mike and Alex were recently interviewed about Indivisible by Anime News Network's Todd Ciolek for this week's X Button! Check it out here:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/the-x-button/2015-11-05/long-division/.95022 (About 1/3 of the way down.)

We're sure you'll be hearing from us again VERY soon!

Backers... We are simply blown away. We've passed 50%. That's 750k! Simply amazing. At this rate, we'll hit 800k in the blink of an eye!

Here's the next Incarnation. Say hello to...

~ Zahra ~

ahgv54alkirus6hryfpe.png

From the moment she received her first oud as a child, everyone knew Zahra was destined for greatness. As she grew older, her fame in the region also grew, and stories of her music inspiring heroes in battle, entrancing wild beasts, and even helping a barren woman to conceive, began to spread.

The leader of a nearby tribe caught wind of this and sought to use her skills to his own advantage. Thinking he could use her music to inspire his warriors to victory, he kidnapped her and pressed her into service. But Zahra's sullen song on the eve of battle affected him so deeply that he negotiated peace with his rivals that very night.

She now wanders the land, going where her heart takes her, hoping to spread joy to all through song.

Let's keep our sights on hitting that next milestone. If you know someone who hasn't yet tried the prototype, let them know they can try it out for free on PC and on PS4!

And don't forget that the PS4 version of the prototype will be out for EU PSN on November 10th.

Thank you for your continued support!

We are practically speechless, backers...We hit 900k this evening, and thanks to your spectacular show of support, we have officially put in the request to Indiegogo for a full 20-day extension!

What?  An extension?

Yes!  We are committed to doign everything we can to help this campaign succeed, and considering the momentum we've seen over the past few days, extending it seems like our best option.

Getting this extension was a hard-won battle, but we need to keep up the pace if we're going to get Indivisible made, so let's go!  There won't be any more extensions beyond this one.

For now, relax and behold the next Incarnation...

~ Lanshi ~

hc4kl08rkcxmml4xflkd.jpg

Lanshi is a dog, which can only mean one thing: reincarnation as an animal, resulting from his ignorant ways in a past life.

Captured as a pup, Lanshi was mercilessly abused by his new owner, who hoped to turn the masive beast into a vicious guard dog.  But throughout years of mistreatment, he somehow remained friendly and obedient.  Eventually dismissed as useless, Lanshi was abandoned one winter morning to wander the deslote mountains alone.  He now lives a lazy life taking frequent naps under the sun, and srvives on scraps provided by the adoring townspeople of his new domain, challenged by none.

Of all the questions surrounding him, the most mysterious is how this seemingly docile dog possesses the Vajra, a powerful relic that allows him to conjure and manipulate lightning when threatened.  Karma works in mysterious ways - perhaps the artifact is somehow connected to Lanshi's previous misdeeds.

Keep on spreading the Indivisible love.  We're steadily approaching ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

That means you've also now officially helped raise more than our Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign! That's amazing... We couldn't be more humbled!

Lots of new stuff to show! First up, meet the next Incarnation:

~ Nuna ~

i82y2fuuyskt4zdc7gwq.png

The third daughter of the chieftain of the Wakinyan, Nuna shares her sisters' gift - the ability to commune with nature. Drawing on the blessing of the Deohako, she can attune herself to all kinds of vegetation, encouraging them to grow and blossom. But she is young, and does not yet know the full extent of her abilities.

Together, the three sisters provide their tribe with an almost unending bounty. Recently, they have begun to share their surplus with neighboring tribes, hoping to form a Tribal Union and bring an end to the long years of relative isolation.

Being the youngest daughter and her father's obvious favorite, many in the tribe feel that she must venture away from his coddling to truly grow and mature. Though she doesn't flinch at hunting animals, the thought of hurting other people upsets her, and a future leader cannot ignore the reality of violence. Understandably reluctant to leave, Nuna is nonetheless excited to share her gift with others and experience more of the world and its flora.

Now, feast your eyes on The Drifter, from Hyper Light Drifter, adapted to Indivisible's art style:

cifulfymah9yptfgewhv.png

We can't fully express how honored we are to have the chance to include The Drifter in the game, and are incredibly thankful to Heart Machine for their generosity!

If you aren't excited for Hyper Light Drifter, you just might be crazy.

We've also updated our Incarnations silhouette image to give you a small glimpse of what's coming up...

We just crossed 950k and we here at Lab Zero continue to be astounded by your support. This puts us just shy of ONE MILLION DOLLARS, and nearly a full 2/3 of the way to our funding goal!

A quick note to those of you interested in the cosplay, fan art, and speedrun contests: We've extended the deadline to December 1st at 11:59 PM Pacific! You can view contest rules here. Good luck!

And of course, hitting another milestone means we reveal a new Incarnation. We present to you...

~ Qadira ~

gl9dour43d1xrtfgsgb4.png

Secretly trained by her brother in the ways of combat, young Qadira became quite a formidable fighter. When she was finally of age, she joined her brother at the battlefront against the encroaching Iron Kingdom...only to learn that it was not a woman's place to fight, but instead to tend the wounded and distribute supplies. Crestfallen but undeterred, Qadira worked earnestly as a nurse, remaining ever near her brother.

Then the unthinkable happened - she received word that during an assault her brother had been captured.  Without hesitation she donned his spare armor and signature green sash, and rushed into combat.

That day, in a dazzling display of skill, a mysterious warrior single-handedly turned the tide of battle. But with no sign of her brother, and now wary of revealing her true identity, Qadira's quest is only just beginning.

Continuing with the steady unveiling of how each of our guest characters will look, here's Lea from Curses 'N Chaos!

i52xt72ezmdk6c5cgfv6.png

Huge thanks to Tribute Games for giving us this opportunity. We love Curses 'N Chaos and are really excited to have Lea kicking some serious butt in Indivisible!

Oh, and if you'd like to stream the prototype and want an overlay, feel free to use ours! http://imgur.com/gHtoIxy

Keep spreading the word, backers. We can do this together!

WE MADE IT TO 1 MILLION DOLLARS!

Amazing. We're up to 7 digits. 1.5 million feels so much closer now! Your support and enthusiasm is what's making this all possible, and we can't thank you enough.

Art Director Mariel Cartwright drew a special piece of thank-you artwork to commemorate hitting this enormous milestone!

mxqxem5hwqpmcupv48z3.png

And here's the next Incarnation!
~ Tatanka ~

vc2p7nqecdfida8kbviv.png

A shaman renowned for his passionate drumming which brought forth departed spirits, Tatanka's life was forever changed by a simple errand boy. Mistaking his nameplate for that of the Great Warlock Tanaka who lived next door, the hasty courier delivered the wrong package of mystical ingredients - with disastrous results.

Attempting to summon the spirit of his next client's dead wife, Tatanka instead called forth an ancient spirit of mysterious origin. Though the two have since forged an uneasy alliance, neither is happy with the current state of affairs. Unable to rid himself of the irritating specter alone, Tatanka travels the world seeking an exorcist skilled enough to sever the bond.

Lastly, we've released yet another Incarnation intro video:

Thank you again for your support. Let's make this week a great one!
