Dead island: Epidemic is closing servers

13 posts in this topic

Hi !

Publisher Deep silver has announced that Dead Island Epidemic is being shut down and all development is over. If you don't know, DIE was a kind-of-sort-of-moba where 3 teams combat to gather the most resources, however even from Early acces that started a year ago, there was a lack of content and balance in the game. So instead of fixing the issue, they decided to shut it down. The worst part of it is that the game heavily relied on micro-transactions and some people (Including me) spend some money on it.

This story teaches us not to trust Early Acces games. I just hope that 7 days to die will not meet it's end aswell.

This is why I usually try to avoid online only games, especially when they feature microtransactions.

At some point the continuation of running the servers is going outweigh the revenue being generated by the product. The closure of the service whether it takes a year, two years or ten years is inevitable and the game is worthless. At least if it has a single player you could still play that part.

I was gonna give the game a shot someday but it seems I was better off staying as far away as I did.

Oh, no, Not Dead Island Epidemic! That cookie cutter MOBA no one gave a shit about! It was a true masterpiece of gaming!

Good riddance

1. We dont need more mobas. We already have the big boys, dota 2, lol, Hots, smite.

2. Early access? and microtransactions? sounds like the ultimate EA "fun" pack

3. A moba based on the dead island franchise... umm... I mean... why??

Good riddance

I remember being hesitant about this game. After the two main games I felt they could not do the genre justice (prior to Dying Light). Sadly the free part was next to nothing. Similar to Heroes of the Storm. You will play for three months at two games a day so you can buy one hero...the cheapest one. Ugh...

When I noticed this game on the Steam store my reaction can pretty much be summed up as-

giphy.gif

Deep Silver's turned into a pretty shit company since the first two Dead Islands were successful, it seems.

They did release Ride to Hell in 2013.

I'm hesitant to say they were completely shit before Dead Island Riptide released, because I quite enjoyed that game.

I knew something like this was going to happen eventually.

Dedicated server software for the public or bust!

I don't think this is really a game to get up in arms over, but that would not be a bad thing.

I love the fact that the games user rating on steam has actually increased since the news of the game shutting down was released. thanks to people posting "positive" reviews, that is pretty much just them complaining about the game shutting down.
