Halo 5 Story Discussion *Spoilers! Including Hunt the Truth!*

9 posts in this topic

Would like to hear what people think having beaten the campaign. I really enjoyed the overall plot, feeling like the blue team missions had a lot of weight to them despite being so few.

The continued development of the relationship between Chief and Cortana has always been one of my biggest enjoyments with the series and this has not disappointed me.

Though I'll admit, unless people have read up on the extended universe then a lot of the forerunner talk will confuse the shit out of them. I honestly think Cortana is not correct with the intentions of the Mantle. Everything I read has indicated that both the precursors and the forerunners intended humanity to take it up, so I think she is bending the interpretations. After all, she is in the Domain, prolly the most advanced overwhelming system she's ever interfaced with. Remember how she reacted when she was put into the control room for installation 04 in halo 1?

I'm excited to see where halo 6 goes, or even if they give us spartan ops with 5. Having missions/horde game types to go with telling the story of humanity fighting the war against cortana's forces. With the Smart AI's joining up, maybe we'll see Black Box or FERO from hunt the truth?

I utterly hated the campaign for this game. From the boring "betrayal" that I will assume is just another form of rampancy as I can't see her completely change character. Yes, she does review her job as a protector of humanity as futile if you watched Halo:Legends, but she concludes that it is humanities right to gain the mantle. This Cortana I hope to God is a rampant version that is a sort of phantom of the real one. Everyone is so underdeveloped and Osiris team (minus Buck) can be killed off and I wouldn't care less. Blue team needs more missions and Warden Eternal usless, as he is literally forced to not do anything important...This game makes me want to play another Halo ODST and have a more down to earth plot...

I wasn't a fan of the campaign. Not enough blue team missions. Halsey and Cortana do a complete 180 in character from the previous game. Apparently there was a comic to explain the events between Halo 4 and 5 but 343 didn't feel the need to include a cutscene to sum up those particular plot points. I care for Buck. I care very little for the rest of his team. AI's all being influenced/going rogue.... Alright skynet.

Entire game felt more of a build up to Halo 6 then it felt having its own story within the game. Also someone needs to yell at the marketing team for every single CGI/Live action trailer. Those do not resemble the final game at all.

Also go play ODST!! I actually like it but that is a sin for a great majority of halo followers

I thought the campaign was great... well... With what little we got. It is TERRIBLY incomplete, but what we did get I REALLY enjoyed.

Well...That is the problem ArisingFlame. I personally want a Halo game that is like the Thursday War; a war where you are just a character not saving humanity, but to serve as a political pawn like Spec Ops:The Line and it's story.

The biggest problem is the misleading marketing, where it was supposed to be this epic battle of Chief vs Locke. But at this point, I don't even care because they are single handedly the WORST characters in the game. Yes, I said it. Chief is BORING AS SHIT at this point.

Personally disagree. We're witnessing cracks in his brainwashed soldier exterior and seeing his damaged humanity underneath. I find it rather fascinating character development.

But yea, couldn't care less about Locke. Their entire marketing campaign for this game became irrelevant after the first third of the campaign.

General lack of story aside, I was actually happy with how the campaign ended. I know there are a lot of people out there that don't care for cliffhanger endings, but this is the first time I played a Halo game and at the end, it didn't feel like the Chief had won. Granted Halo 2 ended had a cliffhanger ending of "Finishing this fight," but even then it felt like Chief had already won.

I think it goes to the break in Chief's shell? For 343's faults, they have captured the essence of what happens to person that knows nothing but war but suddenly is put in a situation where they have to begin excepting their humanity.
