Steam: You can now permanently remove games you don't want

18 posts in this topic

Greetings ladies and gentlemen,

I dont know if anyone already knew this and if you all did then my bad, but i just discovered in the support section of your games on steam that you can actually "permanently remove from your account" if you wish to do so.

So if you are like me where you bought hundreds of games on steam sales that you either hate, dont like, or never bothered to play that much and went far beyond the refund window, or were purchased before refunds existed and just for DEAR LIFE.. wanted to rid them from your steam account...

well now you can! :D i'm now finally trashing all the games i wish i never bought and finally getting a clean and tidy account with only the games i actually really want to keep.

  1. click the game you want to trash.
  2. click support on right side of screen (desktop, not big picture mode).
  3. click option "i want to permanently remove this game from my account".
  4. click option "ok, permanently remove listed games from my account"
  5. Done, it's gone, check your library list and it wont be in there.

PLEASE NOTE: Any DLC or expansions or extra content also purchased for said game will also show up in the list of games to be deleted. If for example you purchased Fallout New Vegas + all DLC and expansions as a set in a steam sale / or not in a sale, then selecting to permanently delete Fallout New Vegas on the final confirmation screen will show Fallout New Vegas PLUS ALL the DLC and expansions for that game that are currently linked to your account.

hope this helped someone. cheers! :D

I was always hating the amount of money i wasted on so many crappy games that i personally either didnt like or never bothered to play and just always wished i could just get rid of them from my sight without having to close the entire steam account, and now i can! WOOP!  :D

I thought this was introduced a couple months ago. I would have done it already but I just put them under a tab that says "do not install for any reason"

There was the option to hide games before this was added.

hiding is not an option for me. they are still on the account and accessible. permanently deleting and removing ownership from the account is exactly what i personally wanted.

hiding them is fine for the average person without mental problems, but not for me. when i see the hidden games list and the sheer number of games i bought i feel a sense of guit and disgust in myself. it makes me depressed and never wanting to go onto my steam account. now i can rectify it.

Noice. And just when I wanted to gift my friends some Bad Rats.

It's nice to have the option but if I would rather just hide of gift if my list of games on steam was getting bloated.

The feature was added in December of last year.

I'm guessing that if I remove a game beta, like say Street Fighter 5, that would take the whole game out too?

At least with this option, some people can finally get some bad games out of their accounts for good.

Too bad you can't refund them. You may get rid of them from your collection, but you will never forget the day you buy them.

FOREVER.

Understandable if the game's been in your library for over thirty days.

that's why i did some clean up in my steam wishlist. From 80 to 32 games. And i bought only those which i really play, not because of "nice to have" or "hunt and collect everything on sale".

Hey this worked for me! I'm very very very happy to not have the steam games I don't want in my library anymore. Thank you for telling us about this.

Finally!

A way to accidentally delete something I'll regret later so then I could buy the same game again! It's just like the old days when your CD could get scratched or lost and you'd have to go to gamestop to get another one!

The hell are you talking about? Steam now tells me the exact day it happened and I still can't remember what was going through my head when I purchased such gems as Demonlisher, Hippocampal: The White Sofa, Oil Rush, or the Royal Trap: The Confines of the Crown, just to name a few. Apparently winter 2014 was a good time for buying random shit.

So... now that we can permanently remove games from steam library, is there any way to permanently remove the DLCs (without forcefully removing the base game)?

Don't think so. No way to select specific DLC from the Steam Library as far as I know.
