Xbox Live Refund Loophole or One Time Thing?

7 posts in this topic

So when I get Xbox Live, I like to disable auto renewal some time before it renews, because I don't always want to have xbox the next month. Today I was going to do that and noticed that the second option, instant end of subscription, gives you a full refund of what you paid for the month.

You could even get the refund the day before it's to expire according to this.

So my question is, is this a one time thing or can you do it every time? I would assume it's a one time thing but I've never tried it so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. If it isn't a one time thing this seems extremely easy to abuse.

Doesnt work like that.  if you go for a refund the day before it expires you simply get a fund equal to what 1 days worth of xbox live costs.

The picture I showed says you get a refund of $9.99 which is what a month of Xbox Live costs.

Dont know what to tell you OP. Mine says I will get a pro rated refund. If yours says you will be refunded $9.99 until the cutoff date than that is what you will get. As far as its a one time thing well, MS has been know to make mistakes like this and this seems like an oversight. If it is an oversight, I would say its not a one time thing until its fixed. Up to you what you do.

I have a story not the same but as you but, MS had a promotion with Skittles in which you signed up for some bullshit with email and you got a free 2 week xbl gold code. So people made a bunch of emails, signed up and got a bunch of codes. After a while, the codes were just not working because MS wised up to the fact that the system was being abused so they axed it and the codes. I mustve gotten like 4 free months of gold. The point is that nothing happened, MS just realized their mistake, fixed it and moved on. Kinda like when items incorrectly appear for free on xbl, people download it and after the mistake is fixed they let people keep the items.

Pro rated refund? Do you by chance pay XBL in increments greater than 1 month, like ever 6 months for example? That might explain why it doesn't say the whole thing, since it might take away from the refund for every full month used. Would make sense for anyone who doesn't do 1 month.

Yes, I pay for it in increments and youre probably right. If you havent found a definitive answer as to whether the refund is a one time thing or not, well, only one way to find out.
