Went from threatening Jason for reporting a well sourced rumor to threatening the developers once it was confirmed.

Bunch of kids with no life making life threats? I mean he himself wrote "the game is the only thing I live for", so yeah, I don't know how someone like that can be dangerous. Stupid kids.

Over a mere delay?

Some people don't have their priorities straight...

Yeah, especially when it is a delay of what.... 8 weeks?  Really not a big deal, at least the developers are handling it maturely.

'' I prefer to play a bugg-filled and/or broken game at start than wait 8 weeks '' - Google Translator. :D

Throwing aside the simple fact that death threats should be taken seriously, this is nothing new. This shit is so common within the gaming community. You'll get your youtube commentators creating videos on this then everyone moves on. I use to think this crap was crazy before mgs4 came out. Now it's just sad to me that this is kind of commonplace when something like this happened. Maybe if the threat wasn't such a joke I may give it a second thought. Then again.... nah

Relevant to the topic. Note he doesn't strictly do gaming content so don't sub purely because of these types of videos.

No Man's Sky, a game most have not had a chance to play and yet this is the thing they live for? With drama like that you might as well go into acting.

And this is a reason why I dislike Twitter with a passion. The website is garbage when it comes to dealing with stalkers, harassers, etc. God damn.

The article Jason wrote linked to an amusing Reddit post, not even close to the dumbest reaction to video game news I've seen, but probably the second best this month for me.

Quote

One redditor, Gilchrist78, declared that he’d called 30 GameStops and confirmed with them all that the news was false. “NMS is NOT delayed,” he wrote. When I commented that I was confident there was indeed a delay and that people really shouldn’t get their hopes up, he doubled down. “So you have 1 source in Gamestop,” he wrote. “I have 30.”

Edit

He updated it with

So he threatened @Kotaku, not Jason Schreier?

Idk, the whole situation seems blown out of proportion.  Kinda hard to get on Jason's side when he's singling out Reddit users then insulting websites in an attempt to get them to help.  I'm not saying he's wrong, but he's choosing to act like the "least wrong shitbag" rather than a reasonable human being.

On second thought, why the fuck is this topic discussing a Kotaku "journalist" right now?  How about the fucking NMS dev being threatened???  Nah, he's boring to talk about because he isn't trying to stir up a shitstorm around his internet drama.

Incase people are wondering how Sean Murray and the rest of Hello Games are handling the death threats.

No, he's threatening the author which is why he is sending messages (and private messages) to both him and Kotaku. Obviously he's not saying he's going to kill Kotaku's family and is referring to the author of the article.

Talking about the poor communities or people that become obsessed with an entertainment product is both relevant to his job, him being threatened, and to the game and its developers. As is showing the poor moderation of websites like twitter who don't care when either Jason, No Man's Sky developers, or others receive message that clearly violate their policies.

Because they are both being or were threatened over the same game and topic, on top of that, there is really nothing to talk about regarding the developers being threatened. Some idiots threatened a developer for delaying a game, that's terrible but not surprising or anything new, at the very least them taking their anger out at the people who actually delayed the game makes some sense. On the other hand, people threatened a guy for reporting on a delay, a lot of people part of that game's community complain about him and created idiotic conspiracy theories about why he would say the game is delayed, people wanting to spam Gamestop to force an early release date, and Twitter blatantly ignoring threatening messages to the people involved while constantly saying that they are trying to do better in that area is also a thing that happened. One of the two is both a more interesting thing to talk about and a rarer and more ludicrous situation.
