Titanfall 2 - Will use the source engine?

I am sorry if this was mentioned before, or common knowledge, but, i just must express my feelings about this.

I was scrolling trough the source engine games list on wikipedia, and i found this:

I am simply baffled at how the hell this is possible! I know most of the source engine in and out, seen what it can, and cannot do, and here it is Titanfall, 1 & 2 somehow use it and accomplished what they did.

I must say i am really surprised. I thought originally it was build on Unreal or something. But by seeing Titanfall 2`s trailer, i wonder why other studios don`t use the engine as well, sure it is dated, but its pretty easy to use by my knowledge. And i must say, it looks incredibly sweet by the looks of it.

Well after a bit of investigation, Titanfall 1 was also on Source engine. Honestly I had NO IDEA at all, but that engine was improved and better version. Same with Titanfall 2 now, it's on a newer version of Source.

So this should mean some form of modding support if it's using Source.

No, it means modding is an easier process, but the game is still being published by EA.  Don't expect to see it on Steam, and don't expect mods.

No, Titanfall 1's engine was based on Source too and it had no modding

Well.... in a competitive shooter modding probably isn't a good idea anyway.

Well depends how you do it. CS games were the biggest competitive shooters and they had modding, same with CS:GO now, but RANKED in CS:GO can't be modded which is a good idea, but if you got your own server that's casual, you can mod it as much as you want.

I think when you play ranked in CS:GO, it creates a server and nobody has control over it, nor can it be modded which of course makes sense. But as Titanfall is published by EA...so yeah, no mods :/
