Battlefield 1 Rent-A-Server

8 posts in this topic

Battlefield 1 will support private and public server rental, but unlike in the past, EA will not rely on third-party companies to provide them. The publisher made the announcement earlier this week on the Battlefield website, where it specified that the rent-a-server program will start rolling out following the game's launch later this month.

Not much will change from the user's end, though support will now be handled entirely by EA. "First off, we will be able to secure the quality of the actual hardware," the announcement reads.

"Since the servers come from the same provider, it will give everyone the same uniform experience. Furthermore, if you have questions or need help, you will be able to reach out to EA Support directly instead of third party support."

The announcement also indicates that certain game modes may not be available on rental servers at launch. "We might restrict number of game modes available at launch and gradually enable them based on feedback and other circumstances, but you can expect that we’ll keep adding customization options and UI design throughout 2016."

I feel 50/50 on this one, honestly we will have our own server on launch hopefully but its gonna have limited options to choose from at least from the very launch. Lets hope for the best here!

What surprises me the most is that EA weren't already doing this, lets face it them deciding to monetize all the server rentals themselves who can really argue!

The obvious negative is that they have a monopoly on the sale and rental of servers and as we all know they are greedy as hell.  It's also inevitable that they are only going to support the service for so long so if players want to continue they will have to pass it on to a third party which they are unlikely to do.

On the other hand it's should make the whole process more straight forward and easier to moderate for as long as they choose to support it.  We as players (presumably) won't have to make any additional accounts or install third party software.

I guess we'll have to see how this plays out.

Now that we know there will be dedicated servers at launch...we just need to find out the launch stability....and god plz let it be stable and smooth. Specially when Joe will attract thousand of fans to our one rented server.

I would assume, but don't assume they will be out day one or even anytime soon.

Battlefield 4's Rent-a-Server program didn't hit console side until about April after the games release. So around 4 months later, that's after knowing that Battlefield 3 had the same outcome when it came to it's Rent-a-Server program.

I am not saying this is what will happen, but because of history being repeated nearly twice just assume that it'll end up the same here.

DICE will making changes and add more options during the Winter Update to the Rent-A-Server to make it more valuable for gaming communities.

The following changes and features here:

-Admin Control Panel
A separate screen you can reach from inside the game where you will find functions such as Kick/Ban along with Ban and VIP lists.

-Kick/Ban
You will be able to see a list of all current players on the servers and either kick or ban them. Once banned they will be stored in the Ban List. From there you can unban them or just view the list of all currently banned players.

-Ban & VIP Lists
Here, you will be be able to view and edit the Ban & VIP List.

-The VIP List is a list of players that will have queue priority (even higher priority than Premium Pass owners). For instance, if you have a clan and the clan members contribute to the server cost, you can add them in the VIP List and they will put into the highest priority queue.

-Password Protected Servers
We are looking to re-introduce this setting for Battlefield 1 rented servers that admins want to secure with a password. Setting a password will make the server run "Unranked", so players who join won’t receive any experience, gain medals, or progression of any kind, but they will have all equipment unlocked while playing on that server.

-New Settings

Here is a list of some of the new server settings we are looking to implement in future updates:

· Squad Leader Spawn Only
A popular setting from previous titles. We are looking to add this in a future update so server admins can set this on their server.

· Behemoth on/off toggle
A new setting for admins where they can turn off the Behemoth from spawning on their servers.

· Whole Magazine Reload
A setting from previous Hardcore versions. Admins will have access to turn it on or off on their servers.

We are also looking into a re-design of how the server browser displays servers. We currently feel that the DICE Official Servers are washing out all the quality rented servers and making it difficult for players to find their favorite servers.

In an effort to address this, we are looking into giving all rented servers priority in the server browser. This means that rented servers will always be displayed at the top of the server browser.
