Hm. That's.... interesting. The paragon renegade system is pretty much the thing that makes Mass Effect Mass Effect. So without it, it'll be like Dragon Age where choices are more unpredictable. We'll see how this goes in the main game.

It was a horrible system, both for dialogue and character development and for gameplay purposes, I was amazed it made it into the second game much less the final one.

As long as they give your options for what you say in full, and not just the tone of the speech. I hate not knowing exactly what I am going to say.

Isn't such a system obsolete in games? Like in Fallout for example, comparing someone's good deeds versus bad deeds to me seems like a lousy way to determine whether he is the Jesus of Mojave Desert or a mustache twirling super villain who wants to rule it.

Another example I'd like to give is a snippet of Star Trek:

Lieutenant Worf: [referring to Admiral Satie] I believed her. I, I helped her. I did not see what she was.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Mister Worf, villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged.

Lieutenant Worf: I think... after yesterday, people will not be so ready to trust her.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Maybe. But she, or someone like her, will always be with us, waiting for the right climate in which to flourish, spreading fear in the name of righteousness. Vigilance, Mister Worf - that is the price we have to continually pay.

So it's probably good that they removed it, honestly.

I am then worried that every choice will have to have a lore save because what I think I may choose may mean something else to the game and that will irk me.  If I meant...he is an a hole and kill him..I meant  just that choice..not send him fluffy berries and be nice.  ANd anyone have an idea when the official PC specs will be released?  Also looking at the  "romance" options...Seem slim pickings for a straight female.  Males are related or wimpy looking.

I'm a bit hesitant on if I like this change or not. I loved the fact I can be clearly ruthless (red text/actions) and often get a bonus item/cash out of it as well as affecting the storyline. On the other hand, games like Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate did it well too but it was more subtle and had to rely on the actual context of the selection to deem it being good or bad. It also had hardly any impact on the story or mission and more of an impact at the task at hand from what I remember. Either way, if it's done well I'll be happy...already have my copy paid for and awaiting shipment.

I'm ok with as long as there will be something that represents character development like charisma, knowledge etc. that will allow some dialogue options, which would be unavailable/unsuccessful without meeting some requirements.

Its 30 days out from the scheduled release date. I am looking at teh Origin website and they still do not have the PC system requirements listed. Am I missing them?  Also looking at new character they added named Jaal.  Not sure if its a gal or a guy, or some hybrid mix of everything.  Still not sure how removing the paragon/renegade system will work if the choices arent clear for folks like myself who have no sense in social situations.

If it's anything like Dragon Age, there won't be a definitive "good or bad" story arc like the original Mass Effects. If you've played Dragon Age, reading the responses is definitely required to determine your course of action/attitude and will most likely be the case in Andromeda. And they do a pretty good job writing out the responses to give either a 1. Nice 2. Neutral or 3. Asshole response with the possibility of even more options to choose from.

I always go for the sarcastic douchebag option when choosing dialogue. I did it in DA:I and in Fallout 1-4. Now that they've gotten rid of the Renegade/Paragon options, I'll be able to act sarcastically with even more ease. The Renegade/Paragon options will always hold a special place in my heart, but as long as the characters and world building in ME:A is good, I'll be a happy bunny.
