Sea of Thieves, What happened?

7 posts in this topic

I had been looking forward to this game since it’s original announcement, having it played over the last couple of days I can only say, wow, where is all the content at? Non-existent progression system, dead islands? Boring fetch quests or “voyages”, and worst of all, NO STORY?

Really Microsoft? This is the best Triple A console exclusive at least until the release of Crackdown 3, if it even releases this year.

The sailing can be fun, if you have a full crew, and even then you have to make it fun, otherwise you’re going to be bored. I’m extremely dissapointed. Don’t spend 60$ on this, if you must pay for a month of the Game Pass, and try it get bored in an hour and play DmC4 from the game pass or something. You’ll have more fun.

That's your opinion, but for others, we enjoy the game, true it lacks, but so do a lot of games these days, luckely the games content coming are free of charge, it has no microtransactions, no pay to win crap. So I'm willing to give it a go for a long time.

Of course it’s my opinion, I mean no offense to the gamers that are enjoying the game, in fact I am happy they are because I want Rare to exceed expectations.

For me though, disappointment, and it honestly hurts because I primarily game on my Xbox.

PS, because other games lack content, doesn’t  mean we should be comfortable with all games lacking, or using that as the bar, developers, specially first party developers should push beyond what most games offer now days.  And Rare didn’t push far enough.

Black Flag is a better pirate game.

I haven't played myself (Ubisoft's up and coming Skull and Bones looks more my cup of tea) but based on the content from early streamers and reviews I've seen including Joe @El_Americano is defiantly not the only one who is disappointed with this.

The promise of adding future content,  by which they really mean completing the game for free is not an excuse.  It's clear they released it now to get some money out of it before the start of the fiscal year.  Always be wary of late March releases..... looking at you Farcry 5.

They never advertised a story for pointers.

Personally for me, the game is designed with friends gaming together in mind. The game does lack a lot of content overall and basically has you make your own fun. I think they had hyped it far too much but then again it's a first party exclusive so they obviously had to in order to make more sales.

Sea of Thieves will probably be worth picking up later on this year when they undoubtably release an edition with all the extra content. I really hope this title won't be plagued by micro transactions but hopes are slim as per usual these days. I've played a fair bit of it and have enjoyed it but the games longevity is at risk already so Rare and Microsoft need to step up to the plate pretty sharpish.

The developers have already said any additional content that they add will be free (so no paid DLC) and they have recently released a "roadmap" (their name, not mine) that lists future things they are working on. They are releasing new content called "The Hungering Deep" in May, that will be featuring a world event type thing where players will have to team up to defeat something. They have also said that it will be featuring new mechanics along with that release, as well weekly events. I think they may have also said something about another party size? I don't remember everything they said in the video, but I can link the full article here if you'd like to take a look (The video is also linked on this page)
