XCOM bugs

7 posts in this topic

Hello

I've been encountering some really annoying bugs in XCOM:EU that you guys might want to try to avoid.

Firing a rocket (shredded?) at mutons and berserkers may cause freezing if a muton and berserker tries to intimidate at the same time after the hit.

A dead enemy (at least muton or cyber disc) in one square doorway blocks movement at next door. I shot at berserker which made him try to rush at me through the doorway but couldn't move so the game froze.

In those both situations game froze like in a way that the animations worked but the game couldn't move forward with the turns.

Then there is a bug that makes you spot enemies from other side of the map which activates their movement.

The soldiers in psi lab may wear their equipment causing them to be unavailable in the mission lobby.

In addition I must say that when they added "Make Items Available" button into Enemy Within but didn't put it into Enemy Unknown is bullshit.

I encountered the rocket bug, the animation of Intimidate didn't exactly "freeze" but the animations didnt continue so I was stuck looking at the berserker/muton. It took the game 3-5 minutes to resume normal play.

"Then there is a bug that makes you spot enemies from other side of the map which activates their movement." -  I encounter this from time to time, doesn't bother me that much though. Usually fixed by a quick reload for me.

Additional bugs I encountered was:

Units unclickable (usually fixed using the Tab key)

Missing Aliens from the map (fixed by exiting and reloading the game)

Save games disappearing (happens when you have way to many save games)

I've yet to encounter these bugs but I know for a fact that the first bug was in enemy unknown because it happened to me so often to the point where I had to save before doing anything against a beserker.

I should also add that I've been encountering some very serious FPS drops (5-10 fps) when a Berserker charges at me after dealing damage on it. Not a game breaking bug but more of a minor annoyance than anything else. Said FPS drop does not occur if the Berserker moves during the Alien's turn.

Here is some more minor bugs:

Mind controlling the last enemy in the map does not end the mission. You can't shoot the mind controlled enemy although suicide grenades should do the trick.

Then if an enemy kills your mind controlled enemy the weaponry does not explode into fragments.

Sectopods seem to be able to attack you even if they can't see you and if they have zero chance to hit you. This may happen if you run away from them.

I don’t know if it’s technically a bug, whoever the line of sight system seems to be tipped in the alien favour, not only for the Sectopds. I’ve had instances were an Alien shot though about three walls and instantly killed one of my soldiers (who had full health).

Stuff like this kept happening for me when I tried to play, fair to say I didn’t get that far in the game.

Hmm, bought the game on Xbox then played it during the free weekend on Steam. Can't say I ran into most of these problems outside of the dead enemies blocking movement (great annoyance). I hope that they didn't optimize it more for consoles than it's original platform
