World of Tanks - A Lamer's Guide

11 posts in this topic

Found this while looking for equipment guides, but I couldn't help bu laugh as I read it.

http://www.worldoftanksguide.com/guide-lamers-guide.shtml

Beware of (grand)parent un-friendly language, but if you can handle watching Joe's videos, then you can read this. Also if you haven't played the game, or know the basics about tanks and their combat roles, some of the terms may not make much sense.

lol that's good man. nice to find a another WOT fan.

Sad thing is I recognize 99% of what he talks about in that article, and I've been a victim of several of them.

My biggest "mistake" I tend to make is going around the map to avoid the straight line towards the enemy, get halfway to the flag and realize that I'm alone and half my team is dead because they didn't bother with the detour. Don't know if I'm the only one that bother upgrading the engines, but it happens a lot that I head for the area with the most cover, and end up all alone because the rest of my team isn't able to keep up (my Pz III goes 60 km/h though). Then when it's defence time and I race back to the flag and plop a few shells into the enemies trying to take our flag, I'm called a noob.

I've done some stupid crap myself, like jumping off cliffs (always by accident when I don't know or remember the maps), or turning on the cruise control and flying past the defense line, or sliding sideways down  a mountain, get stuck, and killed by the SPG.

I always take people's advice in consideration, but sometimes I'm just an asshole for being an asshole.

Teammate: "Turn around, go back!"

At this moment, I'm starting to turn around.

Same teammate: "You moron!"

I stop turning around.

Me: "And now I will continue forward just because you couldn't behave yourself. Have a nice day, sir."

Moving forward again, watching him go apeshit in the chat.

Another fun one is the "Go left, you premium noob! OMG" when I'm in my Jagdtiger 8.8. Then I go right, kill a bunch of enemies and win the match for my team.

For the most part the battles I get in either happen in complete quiet or they start with someone clicking all over the map so the chat gets flooded with "Attention to sector...". Then as we roll out some idiots start firing all over the place and some use quickchat "Help" while racing off to their hiding spot. Extremely rarely do people actually talk and whey they do it's usually in Polish or Romanian or something like that (sorry, I can't tell the difference and I can't understand it).

On my Tier 4 tanks I more often than not end up in teams where the other tanks are mainly heavy and go all the way up to tier 8 (dunno what the hell they were thinking when they wrote that balancing system, even an SPG can't take on a heavy that many tiers above). So when all the lights and lower tier mediums start to die off, there's always some idiots going "noob, total waste of my time" and usually it's someone sitting behind the only solid building on the map in their heavy tier 6-7-8.

I have noticed that late at night, some of the worst people crawl out of the woodwork. Just last night I was called a noob because I chased down an enemy tank from across the map and killed him before he could cap the flag. Was especially funny when he called me a noob after he died.

Also, I have no idea what it's like to play SPG - I've yet to take mine out of the garage, but I've been in several battles where the SPG has 0 kills... and from what I've read and seen on YT, that should not be possible. Also seen him be the first one to die... which I guess is down to either friendly fire or the enemy SPG, but still, first to die without being on the front line takes effort.

Good to see fellow tankers here. I have also noticed the matches seem to get worse late at night, especially after clan wars gets out.

About 6 months ago i couldn't play a match without being called a noob or a moron...or a moronic noob, and usually by the first guy dead. I have almost quit the game. Recently started up again and find it rare to see the noob word thrown about. Not sure if all these "Masters of the Game"  have moved onto the xbox, or are now infesting other games all together. But WoT is now fun again and i find myself slowly getting back into it.

When I played it over a year ago it was all gentleman rules. Everyone were polite and the losers would even occasionally thank everyone for a good match. No one ever rammed each other and just plowed on ignoring the fact that they're tearing the tracks of a friend.

When I got my new computer in November last year I didn't reinstall the game until a few weeks ago. The game is still good for the most part, but the people playing it have changed. There is far more whining and stupidity, and so many thinking it's COD on wheels and don't care about teamplay or tactics. Even the official guides from Wargaming.net basically hint at them not understanding why some players act the way they do.

World of Tanks is my main gaming focus. I haven't seen people call each'other noobs often, though it might be differnt on the EU server than on the NA one. Though as someone in the two percent of WOT players I can see why these people get upset.

We should post our garages.
