Hello AJSA!

This is my request and introduction to

Battlefield 2: Project Reality!

updated_pla_weapons.jpg

Project Reality is a realism total conversion modification for DICE's award winning Battlefield 2 based on the Refractor 2 Engine. The mod focuses on realistic combined arms warfare and teamwork within a modern or unconventional fighting force such as the Canadian Forces or Hamas!

Project Reality v1.0 currently includes 40 maps, 13 unique conventional and unconventional factions, and countless amount of weapons and vehicles (I can't even remember/count). The game has Singleplayer 'Co-op' Mode, Multiplayer 'Co-op' and Competitive Multiplayer and is consistently updated by the devs (though, the 'R-DEVs' have a reputation of slow and steady progress). Anyhow, here are the Pros and Cons:

Pros

Extremely team oriented gameplay, perfect for the AJSA!

Lots of replayablity through the many different assets and ways you can approach the objective and enemies.

100 man servers

Extremely helpful and friendly players (due to small playerbase), and I'm one of them! :)

Massive maps of up to 4x4 km combined arms maps

Minimods and consistent updates! (Vietnam! Falklands! World War 2!)

Mumble integration that adds local real time in-game chat, squad chat, inter-squad chat, squad-commander chat, and more.

Community organized events by the various clans within Project Reality (Scenario Sundays, One Life Events, Forgotten Honour Tournaments)

Community Modding and Factions! (Syrian Uprising, Private Security Contractors, etc)

Cons

Good amount of bugs and glitches

Server stability is not too fantastic to say the least.

Considerably large learning curve (good for some I suppose)

Aging graphics (BF2 was released in 2005!)

Lack of ingame clan support (tags allowed, however)

No stat tracking outside of matches (only in games!!!)

Slightly slow gameplay.

Low player population during weekdays (2-3 servers populated)

Videos!

PR 1.0 Trailer!

Montage!

Pure, Raw, and Unadulterated Gameplay! (Oldied but a Goodied)

That's all for now, and even if the AJSA isn't completely interested, feel free to check the mod out at realitymod.com

Cheers,

ShaunOTEast

EDIT: Project Reality thread created in FPS Central by Teapot228, the thread will be for anyone interested in PR as a few of us will be rolling in a squad together as AJSA. The OP will be updated with information about session/training/game times and etc (THIS IS UNOFFICIAL, BUT FEEL FREE TO JOIN IN)

Thread here!

Unfortunately no, Battlefield 2 is PC only, but it does not take a lot of hardware to run, I'm running on a very cheap work laptop :)

On another note, in the future, Project Reality 2 on Cryengine 3 *may* be on consoles, hard to say though.

Also I'd like to add that I would be willing to be a Supporting Officer for a Game Specific Officer who is can help run a server for Boot Camp and training.

Oh god I have play so much of this mod with my friends on The Insurgency game mode. This game is fun but it hard (like arma).

And with the mumble add on it make it even better (well on some server you are force to have the mumble add on for communication and realism sake)

BF2 PR was fun

however i find ARMA 3 alot more interesting and addictive

in fact, i dont think BF2 PR has a slot in AJSA as an officially supported "game" (its a mod)

Well personally I see PR as a quasi-realistic shooter compared to AmrA 3 that is dumbed down a bit. And for a mod it is fairly large.

Also I can't run ArmA 3 ;_;

I play PR regularly and 3 words...it. is. awesome. If this game never finds its way to the AJSA, then it's no problem. I would be more than happy if someone who's never heard or played PR, would at least give it a try in their free time. I would be willing to teach others a few of the ropes in the game and explain how it all works. I'm not the best teacher but I'm pretty sure you can catch on quick if you've had experience in other tactical shooters like ArmA 3 or PS2, maybe throw in a little Red Orchestra 2 in there...I really can't think of any others that are similar to PR but you get the idea.

If there are other PR players out there who are just looking to squad up and play a few rounds, let me know and I'll join you.

I was gonna suggest this game last week but I couldn't access the site :c Anyway, I've been playing this game for a loooooong time, and I love it. I'd be happy to train new players, if this ever takes off (except for flying, I never fly, just gunner position on the attack helicopters).

Also, the co-op mode (players vs bots) is a great way to get acclimated to how the aiming, kits, vehicles and other basics work before heading into Deployment (the PvP modes). The co-op servers are pretty dead right now, with Veterans Gaming being the only regularly populated one. This means that we'd have a fairly open playing field to train the new guys. I'm usually on VG Co-op, and when I play Deployment I'm on "Kokan and Hookers" most of the time. My PR name is Teapot228.

Yeah, me too, I think if we do support it we'd have to run one or two servers (if its popular enough) in order to train people. Btw you know you can run a local Co-Op server as well right? :P

I was thinking about creating this myself. Fund it, it's great for organized teams.

It'd be a great alternative to the more run n' gun/sci-fi aspects of Planetside. There's been some debate on the PS2 forums about dedicated squad types and whether they have a place in such a dynamic game as PS2. I can say that that kind of thinking and organization is exactly how Project Reality is played, and some of my most memorable, enjoyable times have been when I was involved in specialist squads such as Combat Engineers, Logistics, Armor or Anti-Armor.

The best part is how appreciative some players will be of you doing a good job. Hearing whoops of joy and outpourings of thanks over local mumble when my APC/IFV squad bails out a pinned-down infantry unit never gets old, and one of the most rewarding kits to use as an infantryman is the medic. Much like real life, NO ONE talks shit about the Corpsman ^___^

Just re-installed it today, man it has aged well. If we could get something up for it that would be sweet for sure, its got my vote.

I've been playing PR for years!  It's an awesome game/mod and it's been a definite highlight in my gaming experience. I've been since drawn away to other games but the PR community is still active and vibrant! I'd defininately recommend it to anyone who's into a team/asset/squad based structured/tactical shooter. With all the games the AJSA is committed to now (and in the future)  I don't know what the likelihood of having any "formal" AJSA involvement could be, but that doesn't mean a bunch of you guys can't go off and give it a try, if your curious. Highly recommended!

In the event that a group of you gentlemen decide to run with it, go ahead and post a thread in the PC section of the forums! Be advised, this isn't a "run and gun" and rounds can often go on for hours!  :D

Oh I meant how I've never seen any of you guys in PR :P

I feel like I've seen you before, back in PR v0.981. I went under a different name though, it was iAn7194.
