Angry Joe's Killzone Shadowfall Review!!!

30 posts in this topic

A little surprised no one has made this topic yet unless it's in another section or something but whatever. What did you think of Joe's views on his first review of a Playstation game? I enjoyed It although I can't say whether I agree or disagree since I haven't played the game yet. Did you like way the twitch feed has been used? Did you think he was to lenient/harsh or any other thoughts.  Lets reveiw the review!!!

Of course welcome to Playstation Joe!!

Single Player is for die-hard Killzone fan is not everyone like it I think is better than KZ3 not sure about KZ2 but other than that I agree with Joe and I like soundtrack in this game he didn't mention that in this game you can create your own warzone via website that's why KZ MP is unique but TBH I thought it got 7/10.

I agree with Joe that the story could have been a lot better but the game has some of the best graphics I have ever seen.

He had it pretty spot on. The game looks amazing and has the potential for great games to follow it in Killzone universe. But they missed there mark in Shadowfall with so many things they could have expanded on, explained and develop. On top of the the levels again, looked beautiful. But when you've just got waves and waves of really dumb, never changing AI charging at you. It get's old fast.

These days, people want choice in a game. The ability to effect the course of the game like Mass Effect, Dragon Age etc etc So the player can put HIS moral mind set into the game. I think that is where games need to make the foundation and expand on story, your own personal story so to say. Something bigger RPG's do very well at, when implemented properly. FPS and other genrers need to do it in some way too. Like Joe said, to kill or not to kill some Hellgast soldiers because they have nothing to do with the terrorists etc

Graphics do not hold a game together, they are the icing on the cake.

I found the final verdict relatively harsh.

According to Joe the game has amazing graphics, very innovative elements (new guns, owl etc.) and a few spectacular levels but then on the other hand a boring storyline with repetitive levels and some weaknesses in gameplay - I would have expected a 7/10 for that rather than a slight above average 6/10..

Totally agree

Graphics don't make the game, the gameplay and story does.

Killzone 2 is still the best out of them all in my opinion, was just straight up fun

It was definitely a fair review. He wasn't a fanboy in any way and I thought for his first Sony review it was a great way to start. Looking forward to more in the future.

This is the first review in a very long time where I guessed wrong on Joe's final score from listening to him. I thought it was going to be a five.

I enjoyed the review like I always do and while I don't own a PS4 or this game I've played Killzone 1-3 and Mercenary and agree with what he said about the gameplay, mostly about the difficulty of aiming and the poor AI that is easier just to go around melee attacking.

I think they rush too much to get the game out, that's why it's not that well rounded.

6/10 isn't awful, I watched and it's still one of my launch games.

it did seem fair considering what it was as he said a tech demo to show the power of the PS4 and i could kind of guess from about halfway (as i usually do) that it was a 6 but even by the way he talked about it i think it could of even been a 5 just as easily because it really seemed like it didn't do anything for him, it didn't capture him by the story or immerse him into the character, the ai was brutally accurate but not very intelligent and the combat was generally typical FPS mechanics. all he was able to credit the game for was majorly on its visual aid and small sections that can't really carry a game especially an FPS.

with that said this is from the outside looking in and i mean 6 or 5 are fine scores which i really like about the angry joe show as there isn't that push for 8s and 9s making that the standard for gaming when it shouldn't, because then people are expecting 8s and 9s and anything below is considered trash. 5 is average and 6 is just above it meaning it will do it for some but not for others, probably Killzone fans and those who really like the look of the game or just a new type of shooter with space guns and what not and ill probably get it as my shooter for when i get my PS4 (or battlefield 4), review was great as usual and im glad to see next gen game reviews and hope to see more.

The PS4 isn't out in Norway until the 29th, but I'm not sure I will pick up this game now. As Joe said that the gameplay is the same as you played for years, I don't think they made the best jump over to next gen. The visuals did look outstanding, so it's no doubt that they did their homework there. But I feel that gameplay is more important than just visuals in a game. So this game will probably not find a place in my collection.

As for Joe's point of view, I think he did the same as he does with most games and gave it a fair score. Welcome to the world of PlayStation Joe. :D

I agree whit Joe's I was loving the Killzone series since Killzone 1 but after Joe's review I cancel my order of my Killzone 4 and I order AC4 instead. The game looks rushed out too quick also the  last mission that you have to fight out waves of enemys that happened before in Killzone 2 when you have to kill Redec what ever hes name is sorta like Commander of Helghast.

My only complaints on the game is that there is no minimap for single player and the AI is a bit broken, other than that I enjoyed it a lot

Yeah the game is really fun and looks amazing, but I agree with what he said about the story. The story is good, but it's not memorable and some of the stuff you did for some levels was really cool. It is still fun to play and the multiplayer is a whole lotta fun too.

It is a launch title, maybe they hurried the story a bit after spending so long on the graphics? I don't own it yet but having seen HD footage of the game I can say it looks ridiculous.

If this is the beginning for games on PS4 then I can't wait for more titles and see how far they can push the graphics because we can all see how much potential the console has.

the mouse and keyboard make the game easyier zu play.., but two "analog sticks"  (straving/looking/moving) is more realistic and has a better feeling.. ever watch a  mouse and keyboard player play skyrim??.. horrible... no smooth and movments or coole "moving/rotating" around nice areas or looking slowly upwards while moving around a cool scenery ect...

Joe had trouble with the pad (he's just not used to the PS4 pad..., he didn't play PS3...), ....and K4 is hard, the Killzone series is hard compared to other games/shooters when playing on "normal"...

hope Joe takes his time and keeps playing with the PS4 pad.. (I prefered the 360 pad over the PS3 pad, hence some shooters just didn't have the same feeling at first on the PS3 as they did on the 360,,.)

EDIT:

after finally playing it (europe), the game is “hard” on the normal setting, but that’s what Killzone was allways about… and this time it’s a good as ever… (many diffrent game/shooter styles and inspirations + killer visuals ..)

I love the difficulty on normal… there is no need for an auto-aim, Joe just aint used to the Playstation pad (but the PS4 pad is better than the PS3 pad)..,

and Joe is probably not used to hard shooters anymore, especially after this generation of “casual” simple shooters… (Halo 4 Legedary is as hard as Halo 1 on veteran…., many games and shooter are way easyier on the “normal” setting during this gen.. especially COD, .. COD’s shoot-outs have become dumbified..)

=> Joe should get his gaming “spark” back and finish either Demon’s or Dark Souls…, and play some top games or shooter (or horror/surivival games) on higher difficulty settings.. (Halos, Betheseda Games, Metro Last Light ect…)

and hope Joe does not give up on the PS4 pad, ..after finishing one or two more games on the PS4, he’ll have gotten used to it for sure.. (it would be a pitty, if he got Destiny, TES Online, Wolfestein ect.. on the XO, when the PS4 versions will be better…)

otherwise, I LOVE Joe and his reviews.., 99% of them are dead right on spot!…. but this time he was off…. (he’s only human, everyone does a mistake once in a while…)
if you love shooters, and like to play on higher settings (like Halo on veteran or Skyrim on master)…and don’t useally run thru games, but take your time, (oberving, stealth-killing, ect..)., than this games deserves a good 8-9/10…
(despites some small issues..)

As an introduction to the world of PS I really liked the review, it has everything that usual fans of the show would come to expect and a nice general introduction into what the AJS is all about for the potential newcomers; Some fun, Sass, Other Joe and critical game analysis in a nice easy to understand way.

I have to say I am a little torn on the position Joe is in, it's a little catch 22,  the unenviable position of being eyed by both sides here, the Xbox fans who have not experienced the Kill zone universe to date and the PlayStation guys standing on the sidelines with the bats in had just waiting for him to say the wrong thing about their beloved franchise or shiny new console, but on the flip side, he gets to reach a much wider audience in terms of exclusive franchises, this opens the door to a lot more in the world of gaming and what the AA could potentially help to change public opinions on.

So the three things I would review here are firstly how he handled the introduction to the world of PS, which as I stated before I thought was a good general introduction for which I would give a solid 8/10

Secondly how objective he was whilst remaining fair and finally the actual review itself.

In terms of objectivity, I would personally say that he was a little swayed by the amazing visuals and not wanting to down rate the game further and risk right off the bat annoying potential newcomers, really if you think about it games with a lackluster story before now have been severely punished, although that was then and this is now, as Joe stated if you want something to show off what this thing can do right now, this is the game for you.The poor level design as it appears in the video I have to say I was not impressed although I cannot add context to this as I have not personally played it yet, If you can skip an entire sequence without lifting a finger, that should have been fixed. And the wave after wave of enemies, coupled with poor checkpoint systems and lack of minimap/waypoints,  seen this kind of thing before and still not impressed. He does point out both good and bad points like the gun animations and some of the more fun parts to play which adds to the overall objectivity.

For objectivity I would give him 6/10

As far as the review goes about the game and how it is handles, I think it shows us enough to actually give a good idea what the game is about, without bogging us down with things we don't need to know, the twitch format I personally didn't mind so much as I think it doesn't really divert from what is being focused on although some of the comments should be blanked out, just to stop potential trollers getting comments in the review at a later date, Overall it was neat and edited with the usual efficiency I would expect from the AJS, although maybe a little more in the mission control center would have been nicer to counter balance the twitch streams and make it seem more 'official' for the show.

For the review I would award a good 7/10 Sets a good standard that can act as a benchmark for improvement.

Overall score; 7/10

The review in full sets a good standard of what to expect for the new generation, and despite being under the magnifying glass from all sides, manages to keep his cool in the usual Angry Joe way, look forward to the next one Joe

I agree that the single player is lackluster, but multiplayer shines (it even has an offline botmode fgs). What made single player lackluster for me was the lack of shooting and the overly focus on the plot. I feel the multiplayer pulls it up quite a bit, to a 7 or an 8 out of 10.

I disagree. While there are games that allow for choice, there should also be games like FPS where you just go on an epic rollercoaster ride and just playthrough their story. Much like how there are "deep" films like Citizen Kane and yet there is also fun shlock like Man of Steel (Sorry haters, I loved it for the awesome action scenes) or the original Transformers.

What I think needs to happen is a change is some interesting new gameplay segments sprinkled in with heartpounding action. Which sadly from what I have played, Killzone had none of. Oh and better writers would be great. The history of Killzone is amazing, but the games always make it feel so bland. Particularly Killzone 2 being the worst offender of them all.
