Soulstorm was garbage. The added maps was the only boon for allowing that heretical piece of plastic within your CD drive.

Dark Crusade on the other hand, actually felt COMPLETE and it was fun since each race was fairly powerful. None of this OP Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle bullshit. The only thing that was OP in Dark Crusade was the Necrons, that was it. It was clean, it was fun.

Plus Dawn of War II is it's own game, not an expansion. On that though, DoW II is on its last legs with multiplayer as with the first game. But it's still strong in a way.

I probably have no right to vote since I haven't played Soulstorm yet, but there ya go. I personally liked Dark Crusade because the Campaign didn't feel incredibly linear. You could be whatever race you wanted and conquer Kronus in whatever order you so choose.

Dark crusade, simply because that's the one me and my friends played the most when we hung out....good times.

Dark Crusade, hands down.

It was the first PC game I ever got, and I loved every second.

Soulstorm broke the game with the flying units ranging from useless to gamebreakingly overpowered, both new armies having unique abilities that just made them better than the originals (Dark Eldar are still shite though. They make their vehicles out of origami, it seems).

dark crusade, tau and necrons ftw. I always hated the fact they didn't have tyranids in daw 1 though

My favourite is the original, mostly because of the nostalgia. The feels i had when i killed the squiggoth, priceless.

Dark Crusade hands down, it introduced the Tau which I've loved since being a kid. I played hours of DoW:DC with my Eldar and Imperial Guard buddies and we had many matches the ended with stalemates of Banshee waves v. Baneblades v. Broadside lines. Such glorious memories. that's why it is so easy to hate Soulstorm, the Eldar flyer was so bad you could shoot it down with Pulse carbines in a matter of seconds, but the Barracuda could fly in and bomb half of a base if it was well micro managed. Our balance was too off put and our DoW days died quietly... :'(

I have to go with Dark Crusade, simply because they added the Tau, my favorite race. I also really enjoyed playing the Necrons, though I had the most fun with all them battlesuits and Hammerheads.

However DoW2 had the Tyranid, which were extremely fun to play with, I just wish it had the larger scale of the first DoW. They should've added the Tau and Necron to DoW2, then all the best races would be in one awesome game.

DoW 1...it was dark and gothic, in style with WH40k universe and fluff, story was great, typical for 40k...

Dark Crusade! I think it was more balanced than Soulstorm. I hope someday they will continue on to Dawn of War 3 and bring in massive amount of armies. The chaos of slaughter would be deliciouse to the Blood God... :-)

I really liked Dark Crusade and Soulstorm. To be clear, not Soulstorm itself but when added with the titanium wars mod that ACTUALLY BALANCED STUFF with huge variation that allowed for some really diverse tactical approaches. I remember my time on Dark Crusade playing as my beloved deathless army of blackened necrodermis. Chaos would fall beneath my slow advanced, the Imperium stood no chance, Eldar found itself outmanoeuvred and the Tau and their STUPID firepower overwhelmed when some rather frisky clawed fiends would rise up beneath their feet.

This is a no brainer lol

Dark crusader is on one of the best Strategy games of all time.

It had the best campain, the best balance, the best races.

SoB OP? SoB OP? WTH? SoB are compete garbage without their powers. Just don't let them dictate their terms of engagement and you are fine. Force o use their faith powers too early and crush them.

DoW: Dark Crusade had some very unbalanced shit too (triple broadsides op). Playing Chaos was a lot of fun in that expansion tho, the chaos lord had best banter. - The orc campaign in DoW2: Retribution was a ton of fun too.

Soulstorm was the worst of all DoW series - at least on tehnical level (Iron Lore realy dropped the ball on it), but it's a guilty pleasure becouse it has SoB witch I play in tabletop (in adittion to my orks - I have two 40k armies)

WInter Assualt since you play as the IG. The IG is the army I run in RL in 40k. For the Emperor.

It's a tie between Dark Crusade and Soulstorm with Dark Crusade edging a victory for introducing Necrons. Would've been Soulstorm for Sisters of Battle, but there wasn't that much of a difference between the two. And as For II I tend to not count it as an expansion

If Dark Crusade was the one that introduced the Necrons then that would have to be my answer right there. Guess it's a bit of a cop out seeing as they were pretty much unbeatable once you reached a certain point but I love em all the same! Not sure which one of the games had the Titans in, one mission with a gun you could activate and an overarcing objective of securing a complete titan IIRC but that had quite a decent campaign structure (I think?!)
