    - Summer Games Announcement & Roadmap -

We're very excited to finally announce our plans for Summer 2019 with the community! In observance of the upcoming Summer season this year, we're presenting a special set of Xbox community Game Nights that will span the next three months [June, July & August] starting on June 21st, 2019.

This time of year traditionally represents a break from normalcy. Perhaps you're taking time away from school or work, going on vacation, spending time at the beach, watching or playing sports, hanging out with friends and family. In this upcoming community project, Summer Games, our vision is to establish a similar casual vibe on Xbox Live. Hanging out and playing with friends during those long, Summer nights. Incorporating sports related activities in the weekly Game Nights. Trying out new games or modes with your pals. Exploring new worlds and making new friends.

The ultimate goal of this event series is to bring people together and have fun in the Summer months. We'll be offering a variety of Game Nights across multiple genres, travelling to many different titles united under the Summer Games banner. Several different Summer related themes will be showcased throughout this series.

In addition to our weekly articles, Game Nights as part of our Road to Summer & Summer Games series will be updated every Monday in our Weekly Game Night Schedule thread in the Xbox sub-forum, linked here. Expanded descriptions, time zone conversions, and more included. Below is a brief outline of what to expect this month for June.

Road to Summer [June 7th to June 15th]

As a prologue to the series, we're organizing a unique slate of Game Nights to lead us into the Summer Games. The first two weekends of June will see us both travel to uncharted lands and revisiting familiar battlegrounds in the Road to Summer. Some of the titles featured as part of the Road to Summer will be the first time they've been showcased as an Xbox Game Night. This is all meant to get folks educated, prepared and excited about the upcoming Summer Games.

    Xbox Community Spotlight

In our Third Edition of the Xbox Community Spotlight interview series we're featuring longtime community organizer and Officer, WookieJedi. Wookie had his humble beginnings on Neverwinter before moving onto Overwatch and turning it into one of our most successful supported games in community history. Recently on May 25th, 2019 we celebrated our Three Year Anniversary with the game, enforcing it as our longest running event series in Xbox community history.

He also serves as the second in command in the community heiarchy, helping with the day to day operations of the community (and helping me keep my sanity!). Wookie has also been a pioneer on getting games like Gigantic and Fortnite featured in our Game Night rotations.

Titles aside, Wookie at his core is a great friend and colleague. He is the big teddy bear of the AJSA. Always laughing and having a good time, he has a very special and creative imagination. He is always coming up with new ideas or ways to make things interesting. His custom games on Overwatch are the stuff of legend. His ability to improvise and come up with jokes on the spot in any situation can make for outlandlishly funny moments. Wookies also does amazing impressions of movie characters and of foreign accents. He has a strange but truly lovable obession with Australia.

I've had the pleasure to know Wookie for the past four years. He has been part of every major decision and event that has happened in this community in this time. As a fellow Gears of War fan, I always know Wookie is down for a good fight and tussle. I have never meet anyone like Wookie before and his creativity is unmatched. You can always count on Wookie to be different and unique. I hope that this interview will help those understand his background better and learn something new about Wookie. Thank you and enjoy:

    Main Questions

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is the man behind the Gamertag?

I’m just a regular dude trying to make my way in the world. I’m a huge nerd and an aspiring author. This past year my life has changed a lot. I'm proud to say I have a beautiful and wonderful fiancé and four awesome kids. I love sharing my hobbies with them. The youngest is already obsessed with Pokémon!

What sort of hobbies do you enjoy?

Reading and writing. Coming up with new stories, characters and ideas for books. I also really enjoy cooking. I keep up with various different movies, TV shows and YouTube channels as well.

What is your earliest memory of gaming?

I would say that my absolute earliest memory of gaming is playing Banjo Kazooie, Star Fox and Super Smash Bros on my N64.

When and how did you get involved in the community?

My story begins back in the Spring of 2015, maybe around April, when I was playing Neverwinter, a game that holds a very special place in my heart. I believe I was doing a mission called the Black Water Raid. I randomly came across an individual whose name was Shagger and we ran through the raid together. We started talking more about the game and went on to do more missions.

In our travels he began talking about the clan he was part of and how he was set to become something called a Game Officer for Neverwinter. I continued to listen to him as he spoke about was going on. Eventually he says to me "you really seem like you know what your doing so I want you as my Sergeant!".

I responsed "Yes" immediately. I was beyond excited. I had been on my own for awhile after departing a previous group so getting back with people in a gaming group I thought was pretty cool. I had experience with clan leadership on Gears of War so it wasn't really an entirely new concept to me. I understood what these sort of roles meant.

I became even more excited when he said the clan was part of the AJSA Gaming community! I had been a major fan for some time and to finally be able to join the community felt amazing. This was a totally random encounter and it still amazes me to this day. Plus I don't think anyone else has ever been promoted to a Game Sergeant position that quick on Xbox before or since!!!

How did you get interested in Neverwinter? Did you have any past or current D&D experience?

Prior to playing Neverwinter the first D&D experience I had was reading a trilogy of books known as the Penhilligan Trilogy. Let me tell you these books are AMAZING!!! They are some of the best books I have ever read and I totally recommend reading them.

For how I started playing Neverwinter....I could never really afford a gaming PC but I always had an interest and wanted play World of Warcraft. One day on my Xbox I saw there was an advertisement for this game called Neverwinter and it was free to play. I downloaded, played it and loved the hell out of it! It was not only a great game to serve as a substitute for Warcraft but also a great game/MMORPG in its own right! And still is!!!

I also take part in IRL Dungeons & Dragons sessions now as well.

What was your experience like as a Game Sergeant in Neverwinter?

After being asked to serve I started learning more about the community and how it was structured. It was organized a bit differently back then by at the old Commander at the time. I was mainly was with Shagger getting things planned out and then Psykogrl came aboard as a Sergeant too well to help with group. We eventually set up the Neverwinter Guild in May 2015, which is still up and running today.

We held our first events that month in May as well and Neverwinter, alongside Battlefield 4, were the two main Xbox supported games for awhile. It was a lot of fun and it was great to share my love of Neverwinter with other people.

However shortly after those first few events I did step away from the AJSA for awhile due to personal reasons. I was away from gaming in general up until about October 2015 when I came back to Xbox and sought to reconnect with the community.

When I came back I found out that lots of things changed since I was gone. We had a new Commander, new organization, new events, new people, omg NEW EVERYTHING!!! I got in contact with a old member and pretty much asked them what was going on, who was in charge now etc. They pointed me in Rune's direction who I sort of knew before, only really that he was the Battlefield 4 Officer before I left. He became the new Commander in June and they said if there was anyone to contact to get back in the fold, it would be him.

I didn't waste a whole lot of time and reached out to him pretty quick after that. Going into it I was not expecting him to even remember who I was or for my Sergeant position to still be there. However he did remember me, he was very welcoming and actually kept my Sergeant title. I found out that Neverwinter did sort of die out not too long after I stepped away but Psykogrl moved onto leading Elder Scrolls Online events so that was pretty cool.

Basically I just wanted to get back to helping out with the community and wanted to be involved in organizing again. I spent the next month or two getting myself back into the swing of things, attending events, workshops, providing ideas etc. I wanted to earn my position again.

In December 2015 I started to think about Neverwinter once more and thought relaunching community support for the game, getting the Guild back up and running. I wanted to give it a proper run, I thought it kinda sucked it died out without a good sendoff. I came to Rune about it and when we were planning for 2016, the idea came about doing an MMO themed series of events on Friday nights to help reintroduce the game. The idea was to have Neverwinter and Elder Scrolls Online team up on those days each week to provide the ultimate MMO experience!!!

I took up the mantle as Guildmaster for Neverwinter and started planning. In summary the layout of these MMO Fridays would be that I'd run the Neverwinter events from about 5:30pm to 8:30pm, then Psykogrl would start her Elder Scrolls Online event at around 9pm. We did this for about four to five months up until May 2016.

How did you get involved on Overwatch?

I first heard about Overwatch in late 2015, early 2016 when we were in a meeting and talking about some of the newer games coming out. It was on my radar but not a primary focus. As the Guildmaster/Sergeant for Neverwinter, that is where most of my focus was. As May 2016 started to come around though I was looking into closing the books on Neverwinter. We gave it a proper run that it deserved and felt it was time to move on while still on a high note. I started to look into other areas where I could get involved and that is when Overwatch came in the picture.

I approached Rune about the transition and he gave me a shot. Finally after playing the Overwatch Beta, I was hooked for life. When the last Neverwinter event was held in May 2016, I moved over as the Overwatch Sergeant and right away started organizing events when the game came out. The events were held every Saturday night and the community just went crazy over it. It has been a wild and crazy journey. We're still going strong three years later.

In recognition of my work on Neverwinter and successfully getting Overwatch off the ground, I was promoted to Officer in the Summer of 2016. In the Summer of 2017 I was then promoted to the position of Chief Officer, essentially the second in command to Rune. A great honor and glad to be able to serve the community in this capacity.

Why do you think Overwatch has been around for so long in the community?

Hmmm that is a tough question to answer. I feel that each Hero in Overwatch is unqiue. At least one character appeals to someone and I think that is something people like, feeling that you have an attachment to a certain character. In terms of gamplay no two matches are the same. You get a new experience every time you play. Plus the game is just fun and Blizzard does a good job keeping it updated with new content.

It also helps we've been consistently supporting the game as a community for the past three years. Events are organized on a regular basis and we play together a lot. The members are amazing coming out to play each week over the years.

Any favorite moments that stand out during your time in the community ?

Another tough question!! I feel that my favorite moment is meeting all my great friends here. One favorite moment in particular was working with Melon/Rune/Sickshock on the Wookie & Pals video series we did for Youtube! I think it was one of my greatest inventions!

You’re one of the longest serving game officers in the community. What motivates you?

I have a strong passion for gaming and sense of community. I enjoy playing with all my friends here. I love organzing events, coming up with ideas and having people experience them and just getting their reactions. Hearing them have a good time keeps me going. I want people to have fun and come away from an event I do satisfied and felt they had a good time.

What is some advice you can give to up and coming organizers?

Find what you love and do what you love. If you enjoy what you do, it won't feel like a job or anything like that. There will be highs and lows, but if you surround yourself with good people you'll go through anything. Be reliable, trustworthy, and creative.

I was given a good customer service. The best thing about working with them is their individual approach to every order and that they stay in touch with you throughout the process of writing. You might be sceptical when asking someone to write an essay for you for the first time, so was I, but having used personalstatementwriter service I can recommend help writing personal statement to everyone. It was extremely helpful especially at the point in semester when university gets really busy.
