AJSA Xbox One Division - Top 10 Games of 2016

What Video Games Did Members Enjoy Playing in 2016?

This was a fun community project. We received the opinions and votes from various members of the AJSA Xbox Division on what they enjoyed playing and what games released in 2016 they thought were the best. Based on the votes we received, a Top 10 List was created to showcase and share with the rest of the AJSA Community.

There will be games you'll see on this list that'll come to no surprise. You'll see some games that in 2016 that saw the Xbox Division support and rally members with several weeks and months worth of events and other community activities. It comes as no surprise to me that several games that helped bring the community closer together made the Top 10 list.

While we are interconnected and like to play together across a variety of multiplayer titles, members also like to enjoy single-player and story driven based experiences. If members did not have the chance to vote, or they did not see the games they voted make the top 10, share what you thought were the best games that released on Xbox this year.

    Thank you and enjoy.

    1. Battlefield 1

    Release Date: October 21st, 2016

    Genre: First-Person Shooter

Battlefield remains one of the more popular series within the AJSA Xbox One Division. Members have fond memories of previous Battlefield games, dating back to 1942 on PC. It is no shock to me that this game found itself the top of the list and received the support it did from members. The World War I setting presented a challenge to players used to the modern-day military setting and weaponry. This retained the importance of working together in a squad battling others in multiplayer.

    2. Overwatch

    Release Date: May 23rd, 2016

    Genre: First-Person Shooter

Coming in a very close second, Overwatch is a fun and unique hero based shooter that both casual and competitive players can enjoy. Another game that saw community members gather weekly in gaming events and activities, Overwatch was a welcoming sight to many FPS fans within the Xbox Division. Each "Hero" (characters you can choose from within the game to play as) has its own personality and range of abilities that allowed people to play towards their preference and contribute to their team.

    3. DOOM

    Release Date: May 13th, 2016

    Genre: First-Person Shooter

The reboot of the DOOM series burst into 2016 with a bang. The wide range of weapons to cause destruction and havoc to the various demonic creatures you encounter while playing the game made it a fun experience traveling to Hell and back.

The release of DOOM this year also saw a multiplayer mode which allowed members to break away from the story and enjoy the distinct spin DOOM offered in its PvP mode. SnapMap also allowed members to be creative and allowed them to design their own maps based on their imagination.

    4. Titanfall 2

    Release Date: October 28th, 2016

    Genre: First-Person Shooter

The original Titanfall became the Xbox Division's first official game in 2014 and since then the series has had a special place within the community.  Titanfall 2 was the sequel that many fans of the original Titanfall were waiting for. Improved online matchmaking, smoother graphics and game play, a built in clan network to make it easier for people to find others to  game with, and the introduction of a proper single-player experience easily made this game a worth while game to invest your time into.

    5. Final Fantasy XV

    Release Date: November 29th, 2016

    Genre: RPG

Final Fantasy XV was in development for 10 years. That is quite a long time for gamers to get their hands on a video game! When the game finally arrived this year players quickly immersed themselves in the world that Final Fantasy XV offered. Members enjoyed sharing their adventures and techniques they learned with others. The game also offered up changes to its battle system and the side quests left plenty of do for the player as they went along with the main plot.

Rounding out the AJSA Xbox One Division's Top 10 List

    6. Gears of War 4

    Release Date: October 11th, 2016

    Genre: Third-Person shooter

The bona-fide sequel to the Xbox 360 game, Gears of War 3, Gears 4 returns to the current-gen console to bring a new cast of characters and a new enemy for players to face off against. A solid campaign that returns to its roots and a multiplayer that departs from Gears of War: Judgement (instead bringing it more in line with and building upon past titles) made the game was an entertaining experience.

    7. Skryim: Special Edition

    Release Date: November 11th, 2016

    Genre: RPG

Skryim is not a new game by any means. The Special Edition that was released this year brings fresh coat of paint to the game to console players. For some, it is a return to a game where so many past adventures and memories were made last-generation. For many it was their first time entering the world of Skyrim. As this Top 10 List is all about sharing what your fellow AJSA members on Xbox enjoyed playing games that released this year, Skyrim lands in the #7 spot on this list.

    8. Forza Horizon 3

    Release Date: September 27th, 2016

    Genre: Open World Racing

This game is a welcome addition to the Forza Horizon series. This is not your traditional racing game. The open world provides the player with lots of things to do and as you complete your various tasks you also have the ability to traverse across the beautiful Australian landscape. The game is a solid break from your first person shooter or action game; it provides a good change of pace for members who are interested in racing and competing against friends but want something a little different than what previous racing games have to offer.

    9. Watch Dogs 2

    Release Date: November 15th, 2016

    Genre: Action/Adventure Third-Person Shooter

The sequel to the original Watch Dogs was met with a much better reception than its predecessor. Similar to Titanfall 2, it improves upon areas where the original was lacking and offers new mechanics to bring in both old and new players to the series.

    10. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

    Release Date: October 25th, 2016

    Genre: Fighting Game, RPG

The lone fighting game to make the Xbox list, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 places you in its unique universe. You create your own fighter and you'll craft it to suit your own style all while taking advantage of class specific special abilities to help you in battle. Having both a single player campaign and an online mode where you can battle against other fighters, DBZ 2 is a fun fighting game you'll enjoy playing solo and with friends.

    Happy New Year!

    User Feedback

I would of done a PC list too but I guess it's too late. BF1 would aswell be my #1 pick (btw,Heading to official status soon in the PC division) as it's a lot better than Hardline and neck to neck to BF4. While I didn't got the chance to play most of these games I think this a good list choice! 2017 is looking great soo far.
