Thanks for all the help. I think I'll likely use the second build you posted, ThE_MarD, with the i7-4770k.

A few questions after looking around the PCPartPicker site. Do brands have much effect on GPU performance? Such as a MSI or Asus card VS stock. I noticed some had more VRAM and obviously different designs, but asside from that, is there much difference? Also, how do multiple cheaper cards in Crossfire or SLI stand up against single newer cards?

Hey guys. So as the tittle says I'm looking for suggestions for a new PC. Currently I have an Alienware X51 with a GTX660 and i5-3450 CPU. I'm aware the case is pretty small and thats an issue for upgrading. So I'm looking for either parts to use with what I already have that I can more easily upgrade in future or any suggestions for an entirely new build. Budget can stretch to maybe £1000.

I managed to get wind of the uproar before getting too far into ME3 and so held off a little, that or I was busy playing the games fully from the begining in a mega marathon attempt. Either way my point is that I only ever had the extended cut endings and was tentative with my expectations. Playing through it from that perspective, and with only viewing one ending (destroy), I thought it was good.
Obviously it went WAY off course at the end, would of been much better to have gone with something Laviathan orientated I'd say. And yes viewing all the endings side by side makes it clear how cheap it was. But overall, as a series, money very well spent and I lost no sleep about the ending.

A lot of people have pointed out that they don't care, or that it doesn't matter if a character is gay, and that making a big deal of it just makes things worse. Someone even said they don't like it when "gays" make a fuss to try and get special treatment. And they're right, in a PERFECT world it shouldn't matter at all. The sexuality of a character should effect the player about as much as their hair colour. Unfortunately that is not a world we live in. The sexuality of charaters (and people in the real world) effects how they are treated, most often in a negative way. That is why a big "fuss" is made of it. You might be happy to sit and not care either way. But if adding prominate gay characters to video games helps increase homosexualitys acceptance in the real world then why on earth wouldn't you be for it? Because it makes you a little uncofortable to see your pixels kiss other pixels shaped like a man? Perhaps I'm getting far too politcal and serious with this. But people seem to have no problem with championing the "freedom of choice" to not have gay characters exist yet have a problem if a little "fuss" is made about the freedom to choose equality.

A theme, not the one being addressed reasonably civilly in most of this Topic re: the notion of being 'forced', that has cropped up in the topic that I'd like to address is the idea of waiting for a gay character 'done well'. I don't think developers, or gamers, should have to wait to see it done well. The more you are confronted by people whom are different to you, so long as the context isn't actively hostile, the more you'll be able to come to some sort of understanding.

Throughout the 90s and early 00s in British television there was a wave of shows that either featured homosexual characters or at least dealt with the idea of homosexuality. Looking back some of these characters were rather crude (now cringe-worthy) constructs formed out of stereotypes but their effect on the presence of homosexuality, the increased acceptance of it, in the social conscious can't be overlooked. If these, often comedy, programmes hadn't happened I doubt the British public could have been accepting to later programmes that tried to display a more realistic depiction of what homosexuality is like and not only mincing stereotypes (of which, of course, people exist).

For me if, in Gears of War, Dom was trying to find his husband rather than his wife it would only have affected my enjoyment of the game thus; I would have felt a slight warmth in my heart knowing that gamers in their droves invested in a storyline in a franchise that featured a gay character and that this in itself would have been a benchmark for how society as a whole was learning to accept rather than merely tolerate the gay people around them now, yesterday and tomorrow.

Can I assume as well then that you are a strong advocate for removing straight men from video games too? After all, not everyone wants to be forced into playing a straight man.

I did not at any point infer that there was something wrong with those things, my argument was regarding relatability, a point you originally brought up.
And It is not about looks, I never claimed anything like that, my point was that while you wouldn't play as a protagonist because he/she would be gay, you'd be fine with playing as space marines, aliens, orcs etc. Even though you're not any of those things, which negates your point.

Like I mentioned earlier, and several times, In story driven games, Alan Wake for example, you're playing a pre written character, with certain attributes and character flaws that you, as the player cannot change. Story driven games are all about character development, and as such, a characters sexuality can in fact play a crucial role, either for plot purposes, or for artistic purposes.

Are you a Space Marine in real life? No? An Alien perhaps? No again I assume? Then how can you claim to relate to being those in games, when you're not in real life, and still use that as an argument against gay protagonists?
And like I also said earlier, you are not forced to being gay in video games, unless you choose to buy a game in which your character Is.

Not quite. You're misrepresenting my post entirely, in an effort to make my argument look bad. If you'd look at my earlier posts, I bring up the relatable aspects of female protagonists to male gamers, but only now did I post a source for my claim that there are more male gamers, than female. While you've yet to source your "99%" claim.

Like Devastation said, I'm not clutching at straws, I'm in full control of my statements, and fully aware of this debate.

Your argument Is completely hypocritical. You can imagine what being an Orc or Alien is like, and therefore you can assume that role no problem, but a sexual preference, which In our hypothetical situations can be shown in any way we so desire, you can't at all imagine?
By the sound of it, you'll be able to assume any role imaginable, even those outside realism, but when their sexual preference Is pushed outside your preference, that's a deal breaker? I'm sorry to say this, but that makes you sound borderline homophobic.

Surely you can see how I came to that conclusion, when you're telling me that you can relate more to Orcs and alien killing Space Marines, than a simple homosexual man?
  13. Berserker liked a post in a topic by XSDevastation in Gay Protagonist: Will They Ever Be A Reality?
Ofcourse a player can like or dislike characters as they please. But doing so soley because of their sexual preferance is homophobic, just as disliking a black character because he's black is rascist.
I'm assuming in regards to relating to characters, most people would be fine relating to a straight character, regardless of alien invasion, mutant transformation or other such events, but if he kisses other men then you can't relate? That is a terrible attempt at an excuse.

He's hardly clutching at straws. Though I doubt you meant to mean that, your wording heavily implies so.

No idea what it'd take to get them made but after a game of Infinite Crisis it sprung to mind that maybe an AJSA ring would be cool, Lantern Corps style maybe even?

Definately stay simple to start with, you can always build from that. And make something you'd want to play and something your passionate about, don't worry to much about what anyone else would think for your first go at it.
